Hello,

I am in the process of building a 72 Chevelle SS. The car is an orig 350 SS and has a 4:10 12 bolt posi and a TH400 in the car already.

I am planning on upgrading axels, posi unit, most likely changing gears etc. I am also in the process of building a 468 that will be running an est 600 hp, 550- 600 TQ.

My question is do I rebuild my th400 or do I just go out and buy a new one?
There are two factors I’m looking at : Cost and common sense logic.

If I’m going to spend (just guessing) $1000 to rebuild mine and $1200 to buy new then it might make sense to buy new.

My ultimate goal is to put in a gear vendors overdrive. But of course with everything else I’m doing that may not be in the budget right now.

Any comments, suggestions, and company recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
cp72ss

if you order one from a vendor its going to be rebuilt....tci,hughs,b&m etc...
it will probably be cheaper to have local reputable transmission shop build yours..just tell them what you want...stage 3 shift kit, raybestos blue clutches, kolene steels, kevlar bands, heavy duty int sprag, sonnax case bushing. i think that will about cover it..slap on a gear vendors od unit and youll be good to go
