I'm starting this thread for Jack.... so I can post pics of his newly created '69 Camaro. Jack built the '65 Mustang Track car that I bought from Charlie - after Charlie bought it from Jack...

I'll let Jack post up his descriptions etc == I'm just getting this started for him is all.

LS7 built by Brian Thomson; 612hp on the motor, 541hp at the rear wheels. Decided to go with a 950 cfm carburator for the "old school" look, but if I had to do it over again I would have stayed with fuel injection. Stainless headers by Lemons; Burns Stainless collectors with 3" exhaust thru Magnum mufflers. Trans is a Tremec Magnum 6 speed behind a McLeod dual disk clutch. Inland aluminun drive shaft to a Strange 9" with 3.70 gears. Suspension and brake info to follow

That's what drew me to it at the GNRS.... it was a "hey -- look at that sweet '69"... and I like Jacks description of "less is more". Bad ass without the look at me.

If you see Jacks builds in person -- you'd understand his attention to detail and quality. It's why I bought his race car --- one look --- you're hooked! Well -- that and Charlie was giving it away. :bitchslap:

Incredible car all around… the interior is one of the nicest designs I’ve seen in a 69… The dash is perfection… so nice.

The engine looks great also.

Color is just a semi-gloss black.....same black as you see in all the pics; very durable; you can wipe it down with brake parts cleaner.....almost as durable as powdercoat. The same semi- black as used on Greg Weld's 65 Mustang. Painter is Quigley's Auto body, Lake Forest, CA.

Yeah that car was bitchen! It caught my eye at the show. Got a couple pics on my cell phone of the engine bay. Super clean and simple! I have a 69 in the shop write now that is pretty much a mirror image of this car except it will have an LSA in it.

Jack, Gregg (owns the almost black, extremely dark blue Camaro built at Best of Show) told me how cool this car was after he ran into you at Cars and Coffee. I've been hoping to see it ever since. Great attention to detail. Everything looks immaculately placed and detailed!

Hope to see it on the road soon,

I love the less is more theme. This is a very clean 69. What media blaster did you use?

Jack Maurer
02-12-2013, 06:00 PM
Car was stripped via walnut shell blasting, but ultimately ended up replacing a lot of the sheet metal with NOS or original sheet metal; doors, fenders, hood and trunk lid are all original GM. Dispite using the best sheet metal available, considerable time was expended getting the best possible fit.....this was the most challenging project to date and pretty sure it will be the last.

Jr
02-12-2013, 06:04 PM
Jack,
Did you use a media blaster in Southern California?

Jack Maurer

Yes, I used a media blaster in Orange, CA...Orange County Sandblasting 714 453-4633.

I found a source for the gauges that allows you to design the face of the guages just about anyway you want. In addition, you can select the style of the guage bezel. The guage internals are autometer.

Nice stuff Jack.

What are your favorite tracks for that pony?

Has to be Sonoma (Sears Point). Considered a "technical" track, but I like the variety of turns and elevation changes; plus the location in the wine country is perfect. Laguna Seca is a close second, but my car can not make the very restrictive sound limitations. Thunderhill is the most user friendly and best for new drivers; minimal concrete barriers and plenty of runoff area. Autoclub speedway incorporates a road course that includes about 2/3 of the high speed oval. Running the high speed oval is a lot of fun. Willow Springs, called the fastest tract in the West is challenging and you can really mess up your car if you get off track; plus the wind and sand blows a lot.

Is the rubber hose on the end of the air intake brake ducting? Where can I buy that hose?

The hose connects to a K&N air filter. Kenny Belll strongly believes locating the source of intake air out of the hot engine bay area. There are brake cooling ducts, but you can not seem them in this pic.

Jack... on the Camaro, I noticed that you built a custom cold air intake for the single plane carb set up. It looks like it draws cold air in from the back of the cowl induction hood rather than from above. Does that work pretty well?... it looks very clean. I have not seen one set up that way before. I was wondering if you made modifications to the underside of the hood or left it stock.

Yes the underside of the hood was modified to accommodate the the air cleaner assembly. All the air for the intake comes from the back cowl area; I wanted it work like a true cowl induction intake.

I miss stated the gear ratio; it is actually 3.70. Basically, I rarely get into fifth and sixth gear. Trans was built by D & D Transmissions

Seats and frames were modified in order to get the seat as low as possible; yes they are comfortable and offer pretty good support. I used to run the same seats in what is now Greg Weld's 65 Mustang for track events, but later changed over to a Sparco seat.

Yes they are procar seats

The selection of seats was another decision that took awhile. Recaros are very nice, expensive and the shape of the Recaros just did not work with the look I wanted. The Procar seats have been reshaped a bit along with cutting down the height of the headrest. The rear seat is the original stock frame, but built up to have a similar look and shape to the front seats. The interior complete was $7,500.

so, here's the big question. Are you going to take this on Power Tour this year with Charley? :peepwall:

The power tour was one of the reasons the car was built, but Charley has not shown any interest in doing the power tour with me. I think he is still mad about not getting the title for the 65 Mustang I sold him back in 2007 that is now owned by Greg Weld. Now that I found the vin tag and mailed it to Greg, maybe Charley, once he gets more $$$ from Greg will want to renew the friendship.

 You will have a blast if you go. I remember you wiping down the Mustang top and bottom after each session on the track. You may have to let the underneath go until you get home from the Tour.

That's not likely to happen Jack. The first night at dinner at Casa Ramos... you were out and I was in.

On the '65 Mustang -- I figure HE owes me a motor... and a transmission... and a set of tires... and a toter home... as well as a title.

He's never invited me on Power Tour either... because I can only be taken in small doses and the thought of me hanging around for 9 days gives him shrinkage. :warning: :D
Just wait til I have a driver follow me on the PT with "the rig" and I have comfy quarters to sleep in every night - my bbq fired up - and the big screen on... car comfortably parked in the garage every night... HA!

The dash and seats have both been redone in leather with a French stitch. The dash is the better of the two repop dashs available. The seats have also been reshaped a bit.

Who's dash did you go with?

I think I got the dash from Rick's Camaro, but not sure. I do remember, the better of the availabl repop dashs was difficult to find. I had to settle for a non air dash and modified it to fit the center air outlet. The modification was pretty simple. Let me know if I can be of further help.

There is supposed to be more going on with the new TV show this Friday morning in Huntington Beach. Don't know if it includes Courtney or exacting where in Huntington Beach. I was just told to have Darkside available at an address to follow at 8 am. Anyone in the area is welcome; good chance to meet everyone and perhaps get your car in the show for one of the episodes. I will post the address as soon as I get it; would very much like to meet any of you that have been following this thread.

Thank you Greg for all your help. This was a short video from today on the filming of the first episode of a new TV car show titled Private Concourse Challenge. This very short segment was shot at Rich Evans shop in Huntington Beach, CA. Rich is the judge for the first show and has a long history of building some pretty radical custom cars. All and all a pretty fun day.

The bracket is available from DSE and thru Rick's Camaro for $29.95. The bracket can be either welded or bolted to the firewall.

Jack,

Currently our most popular wheel is the RAD 10. Our most popular finishes are our Autobahn Satin black and Laguna Gray. However our new RAD S6 in a full polished is stunning as well. This would be by vote!

RAD 14 Laguna Gray

Of course we have lots of options for spoke design and color.

My only suggestion would be to stay with a mix of painted and metal for the wheel. I think this would help the rims stand out from the already darker colored paint. I think a machined finish would look better than polished. Then again, I like the wheels that are already on the car and wouldn't change them if it was me. Good luck on choosing.

I still like the wheels I have on the car now, but always second guessing myself. I recently changed the centers to a titanium color, which really changed the look...Always amazed as to what a difference wheels make on a car. I appreciate very much your suggestions along with constructive comments from all.

Fully polished would certainly look great, but is just little too much bling for my taste. Also like all semi black, but seems like everyone is opting for the badass look. My goal was a little bit old school and touch of badass.....if that makes any sense.
