Pull engine or drop subframe?

So as I mock things up I'm thinking about whats gonna be an issue when I go to pull the engine out of the car down the road. I could benefit from sliding the engine back more that I already have. If I do that it will be virtually impossible to separate the trans from the engine while in the car. I'm wondering if doing this is mega stupid.

Is it common now to just drop the entire subframe assembly like you would on a late model car? It seems to me like that might would be easier.

Just curious before I go and cause myself lots of extra work later.

I run the 1.5 " back motor mounts and really like them but it is tight to the firewall but I always roll the subframe out all together but it is a little extra work.

Most cars I build I always make sure you can access the bolts if you pull the trans mount, the cross member and dip the assembly back a bit. I can use a long extension and swivel socket to get to the bell bolts. Note, if you move back, make room to dip.

I like to drop subframes if the paint is nice. If I can get away with it i'll just pull the trans first then pull the engine.

Unfortunately I had to pull my BBC 3 times in 4 months so I got good at something I'd hoped to never experience. Engine and tranny pulled together without much problem. Using a good leveler is a must when hoisting. So, as scary as it sounds with one helper its not too tough.
My TKO is too tricky to get stabbed in so had no interest in attempting it on my back under the car. My $.02 worth.
