Did any one see that new show on TLC. It came on right before Overhaulin around 10pm last night. It was pretty cool. They built a 69 velle PT style in 4 weeks to sell at auction. the total spent in parts was 30K and the guy made back about 62K. Thats a pretty good amount but he didnt consider labor even though it was his crew that built it he still has to pay them something.
Cool show anyway.

Well, I have a HARD time believing they built that car for $30k.. when they did the engine the price went up $6000.. what about the tranny, rearend, driveshaft, etc.. That motor alone had to be $8k.. the frontrunner vintage air system is well over a grand .. I really don't think that car was worth what the bid came in at, but the guy the won it was a freind of Barry and a collector of his cars..
Also, it was cheating to say he got the car free since he took it from his daughter.. the car still had value.
Sorta like on Monster Garage (when it first came out) when they said they had $3000 to do the build then got $10k in "freebies"..
Other than that and the contrived "drama" I liked the show.. sorta like Overhauling without the lame prank..

That car was thrown together without much attention to detail or originality. Not worth the price at all. I had to change the channel after about 10 minutes when I realized they thought it was necessary to do the whole drama thing with people arguing and stuff. Why can't they just make a show about cars?

I saw the last 10 minutes. The car looked cool! Not a big fan of the stripe and lettering they put in it.
Was the car mini-tubed? Rear wheel looked wide.

They should do a show where a random guy in Southern MN with a '69 Chevelle has oh... about 7 weeks or so to get his car running before some big event, like a wedding or something, then bring in a crew to work on the car, while the owner supervises with beer in hand. To make it more appealing let the owner dictate every step, and throw in some of those freebies, such as 17x9.5 and 17x11 Budniks, some 13" brakes, a cam, heads, and pro-charger, etc.
I'd watch that. :_paranoid

I thought that show was utterly pathetic. Directing, producing, and personalities. The premise was flawed at best. I say we all call SRRC today and order up $60K pro built Chevelles. Let's see what happens.
The shame of it is that Chris Brown (the designer) is an genuine young talent. It pains me to see him sell out and let those bozos exploit him.
Chris is way too good for them. Check this stuff out:

I liked the show overall and didn't read too much into the "wannabe American Chopper drama" between Barry, his daughter, his crew or the 4 week time constraint. I don't know how realistic the build cost was and it looks like he cut a lot of corners with the final cost estimates.
The interior was bone stock and didn't really match the proposed "Super Muscle Car" theme. (They also could have come up with a more compelling nickname)The color was pretty good, not really remarkable. The stripe sounded and looked like an afterthought because of a mediocre design plan to begin with. It looked like a nice, average 69 Chevelle with a couple upgrades.
I'll have to say though, I'm all for more car shows and less of the other garbage on TV lately. Which would you rather watch, Wrecks to Riches, American Idol, or another cop/court/forensic/medical drama?

I wouldn't be surprised if Barry PAID to have that show made. I have a friend with a shop and these producers would come by and offer to make a show at thier shop. The payoff is that it is like an infomercial for your shop..
The drama is always injected for the "joe public" guy that doesn't know a camshaft from a pork rind..
Wouldn't that be a $30k pro-built Chevelle?? lol .. lets face it, these shows are NOT done for us. Oh, how much do you wanna bet he got most of those parts for free.. notice the sponsor wall behind them? (and who was blurred out, they must of read the script and bailed out)..
Barry is a pretty nice guy.. but the feigned "hard ass" acting didn't fit him at all..
WHERE'S THE DAMN PAINT!!!!!!!!! :willy:

In my opinion "Build or Bust" is by FAR the best produced and most engaging "vehicle" show out there today..you can feel the emotions those guys are going through, good and bad (we have all had moments like that)and the production value is outstanding, the classical music really adds to it....no BS, build it, or you lose. My favorite "motor" show by a mile.....

Barry isn't the most intimidating guy. Do you remember how much of a softy he was about not firing that knucklehead crewmember who was a no-show during the "Hot Rod Build-off" competition against Jimmy at SoCal?

I was think of calling today like I saw the show and asking if he could build be one for $30,000. So i could sell it.
I saw some show on spike on saturday called muscle car that was just actual building of a high dollar car. One of the stars worked for troy trepanier.
It is a pretty good show. NO DRAMA.

I agree, Build or Bust and the Biker Build-off's are leaps and bounds ahead of anything else compareable. How cool would it be to see someone build a car within a time limit at ATS or DSE or see a build-off between DSE, Rad Rides, or Pure Vision? Or even better yet PHR and Hot Rod!:willy:

It's starting to make sense. Looks like "Wrecks to Riches" might be a glorified infomercial for Kruse International. I suppose they're not too thrilled with Barrett-Jackson's TV exposure. And I guess Barry White is in the same boat with Boyd Coddington and American Hot Rod.

I for one wasnt too impressed. I like the show "Rides" a lot better... atleast there they dont B.S. about stupid stuff like having that car cost $30,000 to build... I agree with Steve here, they never mentioned how much it cost him to PAY all his workers to build the dang thing. I too noticed how 'certain sponsors' were highlighted, while others seemed to "drop the ball" like the whole paint deal.
Nothing against Mr. White, i think he's a good builder, but did you notice the only time he touched the car was to point out that the passenger fender was out of alignment?
The show was a pathetic attempt to compete with Boyd's show... I dont think i'd watch it again.
Oh yea, and the name of the car was LAAAAAMMMEEE!!! Why not just call it "Super duper Magic go fast thing-a-ma-bob"....
$30,000 my butt!
Sorry, i but i liked Full Throttle with the twin dorks way better. (which btw, i wish Full throttle was still on TV! Now that was entertaining!)

The whole show is to promote SRRS and there line of Super Muscle Cars.
There is one (Blue Ford) on the cover of this months Hot Rod. Same Stripe effect with SMC in it.
What gets me going is the average person is watching this and thinking they can double there money if they go out and buy a muscle car and fix it up.
It will cause the prices to come up again.

Nice car I thought BUT 30,000! AND SOLD FOR 60000+. Come on. My uncle has a Midnight Blue SS of same year with a mild 402. Car was a ground off and looks awesome. It runs 12.10's in the quarter at 118mph or so ON MOTOR ON STREET TIRES. He built it himself with a little wheelin and dealin for around 10000 or so out of pocket. I bet he would throw it at you for 60k!!!!
I just get annoyed at these shows such as Barrett Jackson that have driven the price of musclecars through the ROOF!!!!

Like I said, I would bet that they paid the production company to make the show, it's pretty common.
You pay to make the show and hope to cash in down the like like the guys from American Chopper.
Hey, at least the car didn't have typical billet wheels..

I aplologize for posting such a harsh response. It just burns my nuts to see our thing get hyper-commercialized just so some bozos can make a buck. It's the automotive equivalent of Grandma Bluehair wearing a West Coast Choppers hoodie and whistling Monster Magnet.

halarious; I had the same idea about the show. All the drama just doesnt fit. Even though they say they spent 30k they probably spent more like 50k either way crapie production but a car show none the less. I'll watch it over the other stuff out there besides overhaulin which in fact is getting corny but still a cool show.

I liked it in general, anything to do with building cars I enjoy.................I don't like Barry White though (based on what I see on the show) his little snid grin and head nod when he does it irks me almost as bad as having to look and hear AJ on Overhaulin pretend she is Courtney..................

And on a side note, those two new putz's they have on Trucks is disgusting...........Stacey David I think was one of the all time best "car show" hosts..................no one else could have that much fun and get that excited............roid boy and dork boy need to go away..........

"Super duper magical Go fast thing-a-ma-bob" I haven't been called that since my honeymoon. But seriously I thought it wasn't a bad show. The car didn't need that ugly stripe though. I like the color of the car and the wheels.

The show was all right for me, I like to see the build process, don't care much for the drama. I really like how "Rides" is layed out. Here's the sight Stacey David talks about his new show.

Rides is, by far, one of my favorite shows. It relies on over the top cool cars and technology--not drama.
Dream Car Garage has become a great show as well. Plenty of variety in every episode. Those guys actually build cars for a living. They educate end entertain.

Really? Cool. I'm taking an advanced Jive course at the local community college. I need the practice. Will you be at Year One? I'll be in town all that week. What's the name of that Brazilian Meat restaurant in Atlanta? You know--the one where the waiters just keep shovelling meat onto your plate. Fogo De Chao. We should go eat.

I watch all the car shows. Anything car related. Some I like, some I don't...but I watch them anyway because it beats the crap out of "CSI Miami" or "24'.
My favorite is "Rides".
