Pro-Touring was around a few years before us. Scott and I started this site in mid-2004.
And I think this is the correct site to be on. I stay here because of the people. That and I still wish GregWeld was my long lost uncle.:D
Just hang around here for a while. You will see why this site stays busy.

I started on PT and then found Lat-g. I liked PT before all of the endorsements/sponsors. Not to mention all the various sections that have been added over the years. I just think its gotten a little out of control with all the sub-forums they keep adding to their site. Lat-g keeps it simple with a good core group of members. By far my favorite site EVER.

Why? Does it matter?
No, not really. I was just more curious than anything as I like to know things. Guess I wondered which site has more 'experienced' people in terms of knowledge etc on building these cars to handle, people with technical understanding and experience that If i wanted to build a race car, they would know what to do/not do and how 1 way or the other may benefit the car in one way or another. After looking through the entire pro-touring pictures/videos and names of people I heard thrown around here, I thought perhaps this site has more of the racing people at its core than pro-touring, it is perhaps why I started the thread. So I just wanted to find out.

This. I despise drama and a closed minded mentality. I think you get more open minds here and less "There's only one way to do something right because me and most of the people that post to this forum say so" on this forum as compared to many others. Be cool and respectful and the rest of us will too. Doesn't matter if you want to do your own thing. You'll be welcome here. Look around, we have a lot of different builds that are all over the place in terms of quality/ performance level and simply the vehicle model being built.
Do be sure to put your location up. It's just interesting to see where everyone lives and is checking in from. Go to UserCP under the small Lat-G logo. In there you'll find options on the left hand side for entering your location and building a signature

Sad to see if we didn't have either and we're lucky to have both....
Facebook seems to be more immediate these days and can be very specific to a model, style or brand and it can have some pretty big communities of their own...
Don't get me wrong,,,, I do like the sense of community at both of these sites (Lat and Pro) and look forward to seeing most ;-) of you guys at the various events I've had the good fortune to attend...
In a nut shell we are all lucky.... However we might want to consider twice what we post as threads like this can sometimes polarize people/sites and cause people to move on to specific info only sites.... I'm not trying to be a kill joy,,,, I just don't see what practical benefit comes out of a thread comparing the communities,, however I do see a possible down side as expressed above....

LatG and PT both serve a purpose for thier general audiences. I think the reason we typically refer to PT as the 'other' site is for descretion (i.e. no direct slam) and not to offend anyone. Why start now? We're all car guys right?

Just wanted to know where do the more serious P-T guys hang out with not just opinions, but, perhaps, race car builders etc, people with a wealth of knowledge and understanding of components as to what works and cant work. Not slamming either site nor wondered for that sort of purpose or to start anything in regards to anything. Was more or less for me, where do I find guys that win races, build race cars, know how to design chassis etc, which forum is more of that to be found on, or is that a void question as those people would be too busy to be on either forum

George -- In all seriousness.... you'll find that on BOTH forums...
And which one you hang out on "more" depends on how your personality fits with the other guys.
Some guys on here just 'click' -- and there's real friendships that have formed... and as I've said many a time - it's more like a bunch of your buddies have come over to the garage and you're just hanging out. But there are some serious fabricators and builders here and they're posting and willing to share info etc.
Like Todd just said -- hang out -- read -- interact -- and you'll figure out which site works for you.

G-man George - wake up man. Somewhere I know you've got some brains. You just don't seem to use them before you post IMO. This is not a race only forum. Corner carvers is. I'm sure somewhere there's F1 and NASCAR forums, but guys building what you are asking for in the post above (i.e. tube frame chassis, no interior) do not dominate the list in the projects section. This is not to say we do not appreciate performance and race builds.
Your threads on PT were hilarious.
"What if I throw 200k at my Charger, will it beat a supercar?"
"I'm buying a 355 to race it"

Don't sweat it. Just sit back and read through some of the builds. Think about putting a clear list of goals for your car together. Take your time thinking about what you need to know before you ask.

I randomly will have 10-15 minutes to jump on a car site at different times throughout the day, so usually there isn't enough action on one or the other so I will click through my favorite forum sections on both. Each have a lot to offer and the conversation and post quality is infinitely better than other forums I have been a part of in the past.

I do wish there was a lateral-g app, that would make my updates on the run much easier.

I think the people here are why I like Lateral-G the most. It's the first time I have ever become a supporting member, and that's among all the different forums I belong to!

Someone that gets it
Now I'm going to give YOU 5 - but in the nuts.... :D
I have a better question....
George -- Did you end up building, or starting a build, or settling on a build??
I am about to buy my car. I have settled on that one at least, not hoping cars anymore. Done with that and content with my decision on the 69 fastback, and seems like I may be buying it this week :D :D So that has to be the right direction at least
That's my feeling as well - lat-g just seemed to have a little bit more shop/pro builds and a little higher level of execution on the resident vehicles. LIttle bit higher level of tech.
That is what I was looking for and feel the same way.
Welcome to the black list....
Don't worry, I will work out how to get further. Seems I am pro at that

This thread is like the car wreck you come up on when you're driving on the Interstate......you try to look away, but you just can't. :D
Pro's and Con's on both sites, but for me more Pro's here. Definitely less clutter....and Jody & Scott do a great job here. The builds you see on this site provide some great knowledge and I have great appreciation for the innovation and skills that you guys possess.
The humor here also keeps me coming back, like a favorite Vegas lounge act. Some of your occasional pissing contests are just downright hilarious.
In the end, it's a personal choice. :lateral:

I don't always post on forums, but when I do, I prefer Lateral-G. :lateral:

I started on Pro-Touring.com in the early years. 2002? Not sure, when P-T.com started, but it was before my current membership date. The database there crashed, and the members had to re-register. I still post on there, but it is rare. I moved over here in 2005. I always liked Lateral-g.net due to the design of the forum.
Both sites have good information, but I always found more on this site.

By far my favorite site EVER.
very well said.
I had conversations about Scotts car on ls1tech.com years ago and he invited me over. I've been here ever since.
I also had a bad experience with a former sponsor here and they tried to get it resolved for me. When that happened, it really made me loyal to this place.
Plus the advice and other parts I've gotten from here over the years. Thanks again.

Both places are swell. Where else can you go to feel inadequate until you spend 6 figures to build your "ultimate" car and have significant parts of it be outdated by the time you are done? Then proceed to feel worse every time you see one of Stielow's updates... :willy:
Seriously, I am still trying to break my habit (at my wife's urging) of checking the "new posts" at both sites every day, but I can say I have several new friends, some of whom I've actually met, because of here and PT.com.
I'm addicted to these places and I have a great desire to build another car, but talk myself out of it when I walk in the garage and see my Z06 and realize I paid less for it than I lost on my Camaro. I know I could spend my money smarter than last time, but the bar just keeps getting raised. :faint:
The right project will hit me between the eyes some day and I am sure I will still be around here when it does.
