I made another close-out panel for the other side of the engine bay, where the battery would normally go, and mounted a catch can there. The can has a drain valve on the bottom of it, which is accessed from the bottom of the car...

Another shot of this setup. Truck accessories are on the car for now, but I'm hoping to upgrade in January to a nicer looking, much more functional setup. I'd REALLY like to just drive this thing first...

Dash pic with gauges installed and Momo wheel. All the wiring is done at this point. AAW update kit for the win. All lights work as they should, horn, etc. Stereo is wired and has been tested also. Bowler shifter with shift ball.
Trim ring for shift boot is cool. It was made for me by MeanMike, the guy with the super sick Grand National on here. I originally bought a Finch shift boot set up, but upon arrival, it was just too wide for my tunnel, so I sent it back. This unit is made along the same lines, which is a weld in ring on the bottom of the tunnel, which is threaded to accept the fasteners that will hold the ring and boot, from the top side. It will be painted body color (silver) to match my column, and roll bar. In this picture, you can also see the 5.25" mid driver, and 1" tweeter, in my kick panel. I also have 4" drivers in the dash...

Another kick panel picture. I wanted to keep the factory ventilation (no a/c yet), so I custom installed these drivers. It was easy peasy. Tweeter up high, right under dash is aimable...

I mounted my relay center from my Mast Motorsports ECM, in my glove compartment. It is very small and contains the necessary fuses as well, for engine management. All my relays are here, except the two I have for my headlights, which are mounted on the core support. The actual ECM is above the glove compartment, and has a data cable that is rolled up in the glove compartment. All future tuning is done by this very long cable, so there is no need to access the ECM. The software is in my laptop, and every engine parameter is accessible to me.
More to come soon. I'm literally a couple of pieces of upholstery away from first drive...stay tuned!

Scott, it's been a crazy last four months and before that, I was frustrated with it so no work. I figured step back and settle before I screwed something up. The quarter panel is kicking my tail. I do have it closer than ever, but I have to take it back off and put the weld holes in it before I put it back on. May get to work on it this week. HAHA
Thanks for asking.

Nice car!! Im with you on the Lift!! I got mine 2 yrs ago and oh my god!!! Yes, its a big chunk of change when your younger to buy something like this for your "oil changes" but as soon as you start thinking of doing some frame /fab work, its really an awesome friend to have! Good for you!!
The next purchase in your arsenal should be (you seem to be aware of it ;-) lol!!) a decent camera... ( or better phone!) 'cause, effectively, the picture's quality dont really reflect that of the car.... These day's, even my old Ipad takes btter quality pictures and its sad, 'cause it would be nice to see your work to its level of accomplishment.
Anyway, everything's looking very good! I'm also looking at the Carbon tubes right now for a little project, thanks for the link, they really do look nice, did you have to cut them? What did you find was the easiest/best way?

I recently told the wife that I'd love to have a GOOD camera, but I don't want to go broke over one. I've been looking lately.
I actually did not have to cut my carbon fiber tubbing. I bought the 90, and two 24" straight pieces, several different varieties of rubber connectors, and 10 of the band clamps.
I used the 90, one piece of straight tubing, which was the perfect length, no cutting required, two rubber connection pieces, and five band clamps. I have two rubber pieces with the hump in the center, a 24" straight piece, and five band clamps left over. I needed the 4" diameter stuff. It's really nice stuff, and priced pretty well!
Thanks for the compliments!

First drive today. Put about twenty miles on it, and no drama at all except my gear carrier that I bought used wasn't happy. I'll investigate this. It's an Eaton posi, that could use a rebuild. Been really busy with life, but managed to finish up the car for this stage of the build. Gonna go see a great alignment guy that I know, and drive it weather permitting. Car drives great, handles well, and seemed to pull hard, although I didn't get on it today. I'm happy!

Yes it would, but....
The noisy rear end diagnosis, requires new clutch plates for my "used but rebuilt" Eaton posi unit. They are ordered, and should be here Friday. Not a big deal, as I can have it all back together Saturday. I'd still have to shake the car down, and bolt check everything before my first trip like that, so...it's just cutting it a little too close.
I will make one of those for sure. Looking forward to meeting you, and checking out your car also!

Trey, the track is open to the public, and admission is free. Come springtime, every weekend will be a very busy time there. I've been in there Saturdays, and Sundays, and both days were filled with busy garages, lots of race cars both late model, and muscle cars, as well as exotics. Perhaps check their Facebook page, or website, for a particular event. Only downside I'm aware of about the 2 mile track is that it's a counterclockwise design, instead of the usual clockwise road course design. Who cares, right!?!?

Update...
I've logged 91.5 miles on the car. It rides great, runs strong, although I haven't really got on it yet, and turns heads. Never goes over 195 degrees, and stays at 180ish while driving. My radio has a really annoying high pitched whine, while running. The Flowmaster mufflers are painfully droney, and actually a little too loud for what I want this car to be, so they are off, and I installed some Borla ProXS units. In all the sound clips I listened to, they sounded great.
Here's what I'm dealing with currently. The 12 bolt that I bought came with a posi unit. The unit looked clean, and had been rebuilt, so I installed it. The rear end was buttoned up, but while moving the car around in the shop, I noticed that it chattered, even when pushing it. I figured it must have been dry for a while before I got it, and it would loosen up after a first drive. Ok, that was rear end build number one.
As the build came towards the end, I purchased some Moser axles, a new cover gasket, and lube, limited slip additive, etc. That was rear end cover back on number two.
On first drive the rear end was scarey loud. I mean, I'm not gonna make it home, loud. After some research, I realized that I should have clearanced the axle ends at the c-clips. My pin went in, but it was tight...turns out it was too tight. The axles needed more clearance than I had, so I pulled them out, cut the needed material, and after several ins and outs to find the necessary measurement with my feeler gauges, I once again put the cover back on with a new gasket and lube. I was sure that my clutches were noisy, due to my c-clips offering too much preload on them. That was rear end cover back on number three.
I go for a drive, and it's quiet. Yay! Wait a minute...after twenty minutes it gets noisy again. Now I'm aggravated. Back in the shop, and I pull the posi out, and inspect the clutches. They look ok. Light wear in the center of the disk, but not bad at all. What gives? So I talk to a friend of mine who does rears for a living. He gives me some advice, and put it back together. I go to run a tap on my ring gear holes to get the hardened red loctite out, and guess what happens? Yep...broke a tap off in the ring gear. Yay...so, I drive down to Summit, and buy a new ring and pinion, lube, LS additive, gasket, etc...put it back together for the fourth time.
My rear end guys advice was to simply drive it. Find a parking lot and do circles and figure 8's left and right. These units need a break in, So last Saturday I went down to a big parking lot, and did just that. I spent 20 minutes solid going in tight circles, and eights, both forward and backwards. No cars around at all, so I loosened it up as much as I could. Left out of there, and so far so good....Almost home and it's noisy as before. I'm over this by now!
Pull it in the shop, totally gut the rear again, and I order a new Detroit TrueTrac. I go to install it this past Thursday, and I realize I've made a mistake. The posi unit was a 4 series. It had a 4.10 gear on it when I got it, so I put a 4 series 3.73 on it...no problem. Weeeeeellllllllll.......I ordered a 3 series Truetrac, in my hurry to just finally get this rear end disaster behind me. So, I've got another 3.73 on order...in a 3 series.... I am not putting a ring gear spacer in my car....And lube, and gasket, etc. This will be rear end cover back on number 5!!!! On the plus side, I can set up a ring and pinion with my eyes closed now! That's hot rodding!!
More later!

Scott - Great post! Hysterical!
The high pitched wine is most likely the alternator... or plug wires.... and there are FILTERS you can put in line on the power to the radio that may help. Look in to it. Also - is it well grounded?
Glad the car is coming along well!! You'll shake all those bugs out in no time.

Congrats, Scott. Sorry to hear of the rear end trouble though. That's one of those areas where I take my time and am super anal about getting the mesh where I want it to be. So far, I love my TruTrac. I can feel it working with tight turns from stop. It seems to engage well under load too. I only have a couple hundred miles at most on the gears and posi so far. I need to go do a nasty burnout now that I think about it. BRB

Been there done that with the rear end attempts, only I was too cheap to step up to the True Trac. I'm sure that move is coming soon enough though.

Flash I'm sorry, the mufflers are currently on the shelf, and new Borla's are installed....which I haven't heard yet....
I am flowmasters biggest fan. I've bought 5 sets, and an oddball single through the years for cars and trucks I've had...still have a couple of them...The sound is hard to beat in my opinion, at full throttle, but man...I thought my wife's mustangs used to drone. They don't hold a candle to what I just had on this Chevelle. And this car is Hushmatted pretty well! This is my first LS powered build, so I'm learning as I go.
I failed to record a sound clip of the droning. Now that I think about it, if I had of tried to record this, all you would be able to hear was my posi rear end going clickedy clunkedy, pop pop pop...LOL!

Lance, I follow your thread and I read about your issues. I found it kind of odd that your RB's are hitting the tray this go around. Honestly your engine woes inspired me to update my thread. I figured we all should get to read about people having real issues building these cars. Stuff happens to all of us!
Hope you get it figured out soon. Keep us posted!

Spent 5 hours Saturday completely setting up rear end again with all new TrueTrac, R&P, bearings, crush sleeve, etc. set up went great, and I drove the car for the first time Saturday night without a noisy rear end. Yay!
So, I made it out to the shop tonight, pushed the car back to the lift area, and up we go. Drumroll........
A brand new pinion seal that leaks. This is awesome! ...Now I get why you guys purchase those expensive pre built rear end units.
On a positive note the TrueTrac is quiet, and should do the job well.
The Borla XS mufflers surprisingly aren't as quiet as I had thought, and actually are just a tad quieter than the Flowmasters, but with much less drone. They do drone a very small amount, but it's very bearable, and allows you to actually hear your stereo. I like them! More later!

One step forward, two steps back... :D
Seems to be a common theme as of late. Keep at it, you'll get it eventually. You are in the fine tuning phase now, working out the minor details. Soon you'll be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor without issue and you'll know the car is perfect....because you made it perfect with your own hands. Glad the new rear is quiet and the mufflers are "better".
I'm down to polishing last year's number magnet stains off the doors and fine tuning the vacuum advance with Barney, and driving it as much as I can to break in the new clutch properly. Glad the mad rush for this year seems to be behind me **knocking on wood**

Had some extra time Wednesday between jobs, so me and my brother jumped in the car and went over to Dads house. My brother truly enjoyed the ride, and we went by the alignment shop on the way over. Car drives way better now!
Dad got in and we went for a 30 minute trip, with in town and interstate driving. Coming off the interstate exit ramp, I was rolling in 2nd, opened it up big, and spun 3rd gear. He smiled pretty big, so the entire last 4+ years of my life building this car at that moment became worth it all. To impress the old man, I think I did pretty good on this one. I just wish he had drove the car. He declined, but maybe next time.
Overall I'm quite happy with the Chevelle. Ride quality is great, Thanks to Ron Sutton! Power is plentiful, brakes stop the car excellent, seats are comfy, steering is accurate, clutch has a small amount of chatter, but should get better with age, radio sounds great, everywhere we go, people take pictures and wave, blow their horn, and give thumbs up. All in all, it's a total success for me. No regrets at all at this point! The odometer reads 370ish right now, and I'll put a couple hundred more this weekend on it. Researching cameras currently, so I can post real pictures of the car on here.
More later!!

Congrats Scott - What dreams are made of! Thanks for that account. I can't wait to experience that. Looking at spring/summer '17. Get that camera sorted out and post, post, post...

That is classic, My Dad use to tech me how to speed shift and launch the car and would always want a ride later to see how I improved.

Glad you are getting to get it out and enjoy it now Scott, that's what it is all about.
You know it's not finished though right? :D You'll still find things that you want to improve or change on it. I suggest you follow this rule of thumb for future changes, plan them out well in advance and try to not take it off the road for any longer than a three week period. It makes it so much nicer when you can plan a project, make the changes...and then begin enjoying them right away afterward.
I did my T56 swap in three weeks, so it can be done.

Thanks for all the replies, and advice guys! It was a great day. Sunday I'm driving it to the in-laws. None of them have seen it yet. I have several people in that area that I want to share it with, so looking forward to that also.
Not real sure what area of the car I want to mess with in the near future. I might add a nice EQ to the stereo...I put in a 10 speaker 1600 watt system that isn't bad at all, just needs more tuning than the head unit will allow. Definitely adding a/c this next winter. Gonna pick up a nice camera outfit first...that's a sure thing.

If you're thinking EQ, I'd look at a JBL MS8 or a Mosconi 6to8.
They do time alignment that makes a very nice sound stage.

Drove the car today. Man we had beautiful weather here in N. Ga.
I've logged almost 500 miles. This thing is just a load of fun! Spent the entire day with the car. Drove it to Church. Left there and went to lunch, then I had a couple of people to show it to. The wife went along, and didn't complain about anything...WIN! Most of the day was spent an hour or so away at the in-laws. Pulled the car back in the shop this evening right at dark, and as I'm backing it through the shop door, the pressure side power steering hose lets go at the crimp connection. I had the hose built, so I'm taking it back to see what they can do. SO relieved that this happened in the shop, and not an hour away from here. More Later!

Great news, Scott. Really glad to hear the car is running well for you. I may be headed that way to ride the bike through the mountains on Saturday. This weather is way to nice to not enjoy. If you're going to be out, let me know and we'll grab lunch or something.

Odometer went past 700 miles today. Great day for a drive, but I've developed a small exhaust leak at the driver side header. Looking forward to jumping into this actually...haven't had the time to touch the car in a couple of weeks, and miss working on it. #shouldhavewentwiththegmgaskets

Thanks guys. It's been a very busy summer at work. I have managed to get the odometer to go over 1k, so I have enjoyed the car some. I have yet to purchase a nice camera setup, and frankly I dont know where to start. Not enough time lately to research them much.
We just wrapped up another championship baseball season, so that will free up some time. The exhaust leak is gone, and I am down to chasing the final bug in this setup. My CEL has been on since day one. I have talked to Mast about the code it throws up, and it's my fuel pump circuit. Specifically a ground short in the circuit. I'll figure it out this winter...

Scott, I use a CANON POWERSHOT A610. These older cameras are cheap and take awesome photos.
My SAMSUNG S6 takes even better shots than the CANON.

SUP guys! Been a while since I’ve posted here. Car is great, but didn’t have a ton of time to enjoy it this year due to work. I’ve had an engine project going since January, and it’s finally in the car. Not started yet, but we’re close. Nothing wrong with the engine in the car at all, I simply turned stupid and decided that the car deserved an LS7. So I began putting together a plan. I’m not one to ever settle with what’s available, and I wanted to put something together a little bigger, and a little more powerful than what comes in a crate. I thought that 434 cubic inches would work well as a package, so I bought a block and sent it out to Steve at Race Engine Development (RED) in Oceanside Ca. to be sleeved. I also made a phone call to Tony Mamo to see what he could do to a set of GM LS7 heads that I had, to make them work better, and that’s where the project took a slight turn. Tony’s LS7 Head program uses TrickFlow 260 cc castings, and make big power. Tony sold me lots of goodies besides his LS7 265 cylinder heads, such as his ported MSD Atomic manifold, a Nick Williams 102 throttle body, state of the art solid roller lifters, solid camshaft, shaft rockers, ported oil pump, push rods, custom head gaskets, and more. There are a lot of details in this new engine that you have to check out, and I’ve put together a build thread over on LS1Tech. I’ll update this with pics after install is complete. Anyway, here’s a link if your interested...

Should be fun. Not looking to meet any power goals. I’ve followed many of Tony’s builds on CorvetteForum, and those guys go 640ish to the tires with similar camshaft...some more, some less. I’d be happy with 625, but I’m secretly expecting a 650 number. Can’t wait!

Well Marcus...it’s stout. So stout that the clutch didn’t want to stick around for the encore. I have the engine so close to the firewall, that it all has to come out to get the bellhousing off. No big deal right? After all, I own a killer set of tools, and have a shop to goof off in. I bought an RPS BC2, so I’m covered there.
But wait...there’s more. The corvette fuel pressure regulator won’t work with a really big pump, like my 450 that I installed for this engine. Of course I had no idea it wouldn’t work with big pressure/volume! It was perfect for my previous pump, which was a 255. I had this incredible idle surge at startup, which we eventually tuned out. Thought it was timing mostly. Well after a couple weeks I decided to put a gauge on my rail, you know, just for giggles. 75 lbs of fuel pressure later, I realized what my idle surge was from. This combined with 3 sets of fouled plugs, the first set which was fuel. 2nd and 3rd set I thought was fuel as well, was actually oil. The fuel pressure issue probably washed the cylinders down to the point of hurting my rings. Not really sure yet until we dig back in. Got to mess with it for about 40 miles. First drive out, it would spin the tires in 4th gear. It’s stupid stout. Tony Mamo without a doubt builds the best ls7 package out there. I’ve alread got new head gaskets from Tony, and I’m just waiting to get my nephews silveraydo out of the shop that I’m putting a 6liter in that I just finished. All this on top of work, and I’ve been a busy boy.
Besides all of that, everything is great. Lol!

My experience with the Corvette fuel pressure regulator / filter is about the same as yours Scott. They are fine for stock or nearly stock setups but can become a limitation in a hurry if you start changing things.
