Those look awesome, are you modifying the firewall so it is tying into more than sheet metal?

I am a design engineer and have thought about modeling a set of these. That is simple enough, but the expense of machine time makes it worth while to buy these, in my opinion. If I had a lathe and mill or a cnc mill at home I'd make these.

Since I had to do some editing, I figured a quick reminder of the rules might help.

http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=36013

Rules For Classifieds........ Read This Before Posting!! 1. You will need to have at least 20 posts in the regular forums and have been a member for 30 days minimum to be able to start any posts in the classified sections. DO NOT bypass this feature by posting for friends.

2. There are no commercial ads allowed except by Lateral-G sponsors. Any ads placed will be removed without notice.

3. All for sale or trade ads need to have a price and location of item. No listing for offers only, but you can list something with a price "or best offer". Ebay is allowed as long as there is a "buy it now".

4. No negative comments in the for sale or trade sections. We all have opinions, but this is a great community here, and I don't think we need to bash people for placing an ad that doesn't agree with our idea of value. Members should be able to place an ad without worrying about being bashed.

5. Watch out for cashier check scams. Here's a link to some good info regarding accepting a cashiers check for an item you're selling.

Those look awesome, are you modifying the firewall so it is tying into more than sheet metal?

Take a look at the installed picture. See the weld bead on the inside? That's where the bucket or inner piece is welded to the down bar off the roll cage on the inside of the car. Not 100% sure where that down bar ties into the rest of the cage though. Maybe a dash bar running side to side or maybe the A-pillar down bar? Then the outer piece, the one with the pockets and counter bores for the bolts, is welded to the down bars that you'd see in the engine bay and that connect to the forward portions of the subframe. Basically, this allows the front subframe to be removed without having to cut the down bars out of the car. You simply unbolt them at the firewall via these pieces. The inner piece is welded to the sheet metal firewall and blended in for aesthetics not structure. Does that help?

When these are installed on a car are the subframe connectors welded to the subframe?

They aren't related so it's up to you if you want subframe connectors. If you have a full cage, you may not need subframe connectors.

My DSE subframe connectors are weld in - so there is no advantage to having the bars that tie the interior cage to the front subframe be bolt in. Even on the DSE builds they incorporate this feature. I'm just guessing it will make future subframe removal a bit easier, but the sf connectors will still need to be cut.

Just my observation.

There may be other advantages I'm unaware of to using these flanges. Get in touch with Dan and see what he says. They certainly look different than having a tube coming out of the firewall.

I'm honestly not sure why DSE puts subframe connectors on cars with full cages. Maybe their full cage isn't full enough ie needs more attachment points? Maybe they argue it is worth it period? I'm sure it's something that can be debated. I just know there are a number of cars that have full cages and no subframe connectors.
