Well looks like the bug has bit me hard and I am starting another project!
just wanted to clear the air first and clarify who is e.rodz customs e.rodz is NOT a business this is just a couple of of friends and my son who is now 13 years of age who just want to build some really cool stuff! my goal is to build 10 super cool rodz. the first one was my work truck I sold a barret jackson years ago. The second was going to be my 63 belair but after pulling this car out of the back yard I got to thinking what if I kept driving the belair for a while and did the chevelle up G machine style so that is were the go for broke came in. Just posting this up so you guys can follow this build along and either watch me fail or build something cool it could go either way!

Sorry for the lack of direction on the first post just really strapped for time lately and interruptions constantly. Well more on the plan of the car is changing rapidly the original plan was to give it a awesome paint job LS motor and just detail the hell out of it. I should of learned along time ago that I just can't go half way I try and try but every time I get a vision in my head I can not stop until it is done the way I would like to see it.so for now it is time to strip it to bare bones remove everything off the car that will not be used and GO FOR BROKE! my ultimate goal with the car is build a Foose,Trepanier, ring bros. quality build built in my home garage with just a handful of friends and low buck tools doing 95% of the work in one place including a garage paint job in all. My son and co worker Bobby willard are going to do a youtube video documentation of the whole thing so please follow us along to watch us either live the dream or fall on my face hard!:D

I bought this car about 6 years ago sold the big block to make room for new tech and put it in the back yard now its time to make this thing into something really cool. this is the most rust free car I have ever seen I almost hate to cut it up but I can't help it it is just in my nature so every thing on the car has to go it is all going on ebay shortly so if anyone needs anything coming off the car please let me know. anyway check out the lack of progress!

where does the time go? it has been a interesting month to say the least. my wife was rushed to the hospital with a possible heart attack and that just scares the pants right off ya! after every test know to man we still don't know what happened but she appears to be getting better slowly can't wait for all these bills to come in! still been chipping away at the disassembly of the car boxing everything up to recoupe some of the parts money needed if anyone needs chevelle parts please let me know they are all going on ebay soon. Here is a little update of where we are now.

been kicking it on the drive accesories trying to figure out where everything is going to work the best ended up going with a f body balancer and power steering pump, truck alt. because I had one now just waiting on a couple of idler pulleys and a couple more finishing touches and we can get the motor located.

Ok so I have been lacking some new post sorry just been super busy. So here is were we ended up on the brakes fabricated some new brackets to mount the ctsv calipers to the fat man dropped spindles this was done old school lay out with a compass and protractor cut out with a plasma freehand and ground with a die grinder and a 4" grinder no fancy cnc. stuff here. the rotors were supplied by R1CONCEPTS they redrilled the bolt pattern for me as well 14" rotors do look dam sexy!http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu160/erodz/1970%20chevelle%20pro%20touring%20build/IMAG2221.jpg

Eric, to me they are top notch. Trust and believe, something doesn't have to be built by some high dollar, big name shop to be top notch. This is your baby that you are building with your own hands and putting your touch on it. That's not something many of us can say. I wished I could only a fourth of some of the stuff some you guys can do. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the interest and I hope your son gets into it as well because this is the best I have found so far in life is spending quality time with my kids! my boy just turned 13 and he really is not that into cars but likes to build things in the shop, when he comes up with something I try to just drop everything and help him build and create,he thinks all dads are like this and this is normal.lol just made another video with me and him doing some airbrushing. I'm liking what you are doing on the suspension. Totally different than anything else. Keep up the updates.
As for the shocks, they kind of look like something off a Jeep. Aftermarket of course.

Are you sure these shocks are going to work for this application ?

Are you sure these shocks are going to work for this application ?
An average snow machine weighs about 500 lbs total - wet.
I agree there may be some issues with putting these on a car, this car probably has move than 500lbs per corner without the sheet metal :)

the car is what 3600lbs without bodies in it? I see that the air bag bares the weight but the ability of a shock absorber to do its job depends on the effective area of the working piston. It will be interesting to hear if these can keep up in discharging all that thermal energy.

Are those Walker Evans RMK Dragon air filled?

Are you sure these shocks are going to work for this application ? Marty I did do some research on this before and really thought about it and the valving in the shocks is completly tunable for the difference in weight. this makes such a huge difference on my sled getting the dampening dialed in it is just incredible how big of a difference a couple of clicks makes so after talking to my shock guy for building snowmobile shocks he custom makes all kinds of shocks and assured me I was not crazy he revalved them to care of my concerns I am confident they will work but I am not afraid to fail if they don't I am going to run the same in the rear.

Well life can play some pretty good tricks sometimes just when you think you have a direction you get kicked in the nuts and you have to pull your self up and go a different way. after a closer look turns out I jumped the gun and got all excited about having one sitting in the back of the garage that was almost the same with and did not check the pinion being centered and this one was off by 4.25 oh FFFF!! :disgusted: Well looks like there is allways option B. good news is sold the 12 bolt to help pay for this.

It has been kind of nuts lately but still attempting to make progress and maybe even forward! send the frame out for sandblasting to a friend of mines shop called Crazy Talk Customs. so a couple of weeks ago the car looked almost complete and now just a shell and some frame rails.

Do you have any plans to narrow up the rear, with a kit like ABC Performance?

JUST WANT TO CLEAR THIS UP. THE HPI. CUSTOMS FRAME KIT IS HIGHLY MODIFIED THIS IS NOT THE WAY IT COMES..

Just want to make sure no one orders one and thinks it will look like this! I bought the kit to give me a head start knowing I would have to modify it to make it work for me. still lots more to come on this!
this is what the kit started out looking like.

It is the hardest thing to attempt to get things looking symmetrical as possible when everything is everything is Not even close to being symmetrical. it only took 3 times on each side to finally be content with it. still have alot of welding left to go.

yep. I added the triangle tubes and then decided after looking at the bottom of the c5 vette that I parted out for Chevelle money I likes the way the bottom of the car was flat to smooth the air on the bottom of the car so I thought why not. lots more to come on this.

Talk about getting you ass kicked! between car problems, snowmobile problems, furnace problems,3d cad.learning problems, and crazy busy work schedules there has no time to get back to the Chevelle so finally its time !

this going to school a couple nights a week working full time and trying to build a car,um or two at the same time is getting old but i feel that I am making progress just slow progress.started on the rear parts and pieces and I just am on the fence about going to a 3 link and a watts link or moving up the stock mounts on the upper bars and maintaining the fabricated mounts on the rear??
any learned info on these changes would really be helpful.

Eric, I'm using my stock location uppers and lowers out back, although they are adjustable. I'd have loved to go with the watts setup, but refused to allow scope creep to invade the project. I made a gameplan, and stuck to the plan. Although I'm likely going to add a panhard bar later due to tire clearance, as I can't have my rear end moving around. Wish I could help you more.
Oh, is that a receiver hitch?

making progress one weld at a time! getting a chance to refresh my welding skills again. when you don't do this everyday it takes a bit to get comfortable again! and attempting to learn 3 d cad. a couple of nights a week at the same time is a ton of pressure on teaching a old dog new tricks! so the Chevelle has been moving slow but we are still moving forward.!

Eric, Far from idiot. This makes perfect sense. The guy I bought my car from pulled a boat with it and the rear cross member was cracked and bent. I have since had that fixed. But if you want to pull your camper with it, then this step is a much better option.
I had a long conversation with Tony at ABC Performance about his rear frame kit before I bought it. He talked about how lightweight the frame is on these cars and how much the work we do puts more strength in them.
Hey, and it's custom. HAHA Keep at it and keep posting.

This is a small example of how stupid I can be at times! this pict. is from a couple of years ago pulled a ford 9" out from behind the garage and cut all the brackets off to make it fit in the chevelle chassis after more fitting found out the pinion was offset 2" so it was not going to work! ended up ordering a new rear from Moser with all the brackets welded on to fit s a direct bolt in! sweet right? http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu160/erodz/1970%20chevelle%20pro%20touring%20build/IMAG2486_zps53a4b1b4.jpg (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/erodz/media/1970%20chevelle%20pro%20touring%20build/IMAG2486_zps53a4b1b4.jpg.html)

My son would love that to fix his bent rear frame rail, but shipping would kill it!

Nice build, we love the fab work!

I dig this picture and want to know how you did it.

As for shipping the rear section. If you need just the rails it won't be that bad.

Nice build, we love the fab work! i could cut one rail off and make it a easily shipable item if needed. let me know . thanks for the compliments.

I dig this picture and want to know how you did it. my son pulled it into photoshop and did some magic to it! thought this would be a cool looking blue print looking thing plan on printing it then making all the projected changes in pencil.

shipping would not be bad. just wrap the cut ends with cardboard and shipping tape then tape to lable to one of them. UPS will take it like that.

oh how time fly's! thought i would be completely done with the Chevelle already and have not even touched it this whole summer! picked up this awesome machine that will help me make more parts for life so between ripping this whole thing apart and painting/airbrush work, work on the Belair, house work and getting the kids first car on the road there has been no Chevelle time.but all that will change for the winter the machine is almost ready to fire up! i so can't wait to use this thing! but after going to Ron Sutton's workshop i learned so much that some of what i already did is going to be changed !super excited to get back to this one!

lol. it was originally a conveyor that was close to the size that would work for me but had to be completely cut apart to re configure it the way i needed it to be.i have had this in my head for years now and just did not have the extra cash or the time to make this happen sometimes things just line up and you change gears to make the plan come together. lots more coming up on this one!

finally! it is time to get some work done on the Chevelle again! fabbed up some pans to trim off the HPI. frame kit to help keep the turbulence down at 200mph. lol. used a manual bead roller with tipping dies then machined a die for punching and counter sinking the mounting holes and used a small manual arbor press.now to figure out how to mount them.

Always see neat stuff on which ever forum I see you posting. Nice to see you getting the frame table useable and back to work on the Chevelle. I need to find a ready source of cheap metal. Repurposing makes it a lot cheaper, and having the tools makes it easier, too. I'd say you have progressed very well in the years since you started posting. Thanks for sharing as always!

How does the bead roller make the panel recessed in the center without the outside edge being affected ? Is it the placement of the dies top to bottom or how they are machined ? Thanks

Our DYAD sounds like it would be a perfect fit for you! Its a dual-disk with nice light pedal pressure, and can hold over 1300 ft/lbs, so it works perfectly for high-power street cars. We offer it with an aluminum or lightened steel flywheel, and recommend the latter for smooth, stock-like driving around town. If we can answer any questions about it, feel free to send us a quick PM.

man i have just been getting my azz kicked lately my wife has been in and out of the hospital, funerals, wakes, helping everyone and there brothers with everything, and a billion other things that have been really slowing down progress on the chassis. but still chipping away a little at a time. bought a splined sway bar that i want to be a off the shelf bars and bushings and the frame is wider than my Belair so i decided to make it tuck so i can get as wide of tire as possible. more modifications! i even got my son to help me for a while and learn how to bend a 3/4 thick steel arm to better fit the contures of the frame.and also machined a couple of 3/8 thick pieces for the sway bar on a old school mill.

wow I guess it has been a while since I updated this thread life has just kicked the crap out of me again for the last few years and I feel like every time I get back up someone is there with a hammer to knock me back down again! I am hoping that I can get back on a roll and get the chassis done soon. here is where it is at now.

second try on the sway bar mods to get it to tuck in.

my new plan is to move the motor back another 2 to 3 inches, move the front suspension and crossmember up, design and fabricate a torque arm rear suspension with a watts link and get the motor mounts back on again!

progress has ben slow but steady ! things just have taking way to long to get here because of me being my worst enemy looking at every other chevelle and getting it to the ride height that the car needs to be at is way harder than I had thought that is was . I have been cringing on cutting the floors up on the only rust free car that I have ever had and it in not worth saving the floors and patching it everywhere I am just taking them out whole and making new ones instead so anyone looking for a perfect floor, trunk and wheelwells let me know shoot me an offer because they are coming out soon!

Erik, amazed at what you are doing. Can't wait to see how this portion of the frame turns out.

As for the floors, if no one takes you up on them, I would be interested in a small section underneath the passenger rear seat. Got a little rust I would like to fix. Just don't need the whole section.

Looks cool its nice to see a "curvaceously" modified stock frame it definitely takes a lot more thought then just welding up a tube frame (although at the same time I'm not sure there is a big advantage to it either).

Keep on truckin'.

Keep on truckin'. there was a couple of advantages of doing this one was I had already modified the front to make the swaybar tuck and smoothed the frame rails and this was moved up to gain front ground clearance and better suspension geometry at a low ride height.the biggest one for me is I have very limited funds and this was free!

progress has been slow but steady lately . next problem to overcome is getting the rack mounted which is not an easy task either and really not helping my o.c.d. either! this awkward piece was a bit difficult to hold and get into position however it was achievable. thanks to Ron Sutton engineering for helping me out with this one! with any luck I can get the motor and transmission mounted soon! then on to the rear!

it has been crazy busy in the last couple months and Chevelle has not gotten to much love.but a few things have started to come together. the motor and transmission have been moved back about 3" and had to fabricate all new motor and transmission mounts. also got some design time to make the Ron Sutton watts link quick adjuster to work with this frame and also am in the middle of designing a torque arm for the rear suspension. now it is time to bounce back and forth from this and my Belair with some more upgrades for that.

Crazy how fast life can go by! The last year has been a blur my youngest son graduated High school this year and the party was in the garage right after I bought another shop out of his motor building machines that I fully restored. I also have been designing a bunch of stuff in 3d cad. And if that were not enough stuff going on I also went in with a partner on a cnc machining center, moved them into a friends shop and got them up and running! Things are getting ready to go big! I am going to give you guys a little sneak peak of what is going on around here with new videos and updates to come shortly.

here is a couple of the machines that i bought and restored one is a Broaching machine made for decking heads and blocks, the other is a valve seat and guide machine. I recently sold both of these machines I bought these and also a valve grinding machine that i traded for a set of cnc ported heads for the Belair. I also bought a huge cuda parts washer that i still need to use a bit more before i sell that too. all of this came at a horrible time right before my sons grad party! i was supposed to be cleaning the garage up not filling it with eqip!
