Often overlooked one of the most important components to your rear end assembly is the third member gasket, for two reasons. First it is used to seal the gear assembly (third member) to the housing creating a leak free rear end. Second the gasket acts as the proper spacer for the third member / gear set to the housing ends.
At the GMR we are VERY specific with the gaskets we utilize, The GMR Pro-series gasket was chosen for its superior seal capability, no mess install, and its proper spacing when torqued. The GMR Pro-series gasket is designed to be installed without silicone and will provide a worry free seal that is good through all temperature ranges even extreme race conditions.
The thickness of this gasket is so critical that we even account for it when welding in the housing ends, in fact we have VERY specific torque specifications and patterns that MUST be utilized. This will ensure that the third member will be straight in line with the housing ends, and yes all GMR Certified builders are instructed to do this as well.

With gaskets ranging in thickness from 0.015 to greater then .125″ its easy to see how this specific measurement is so critical when setting the housing ends. The GMR pro-series gasket will be 0.025″ to 0.027″ when properly installed. Notice the Gasket in the above picture being used with the GMR9-TX system to properly set the third member in relation to the housing ends along with the specific torque pattern for the fixture system to the face of the housing. Even when installing the Third member GMR requires a very specific torque spec and patter, seen below.

Following the specific pattern above GMR suggests two separate torque stages, first is to 15 FT lbs, then once complete the second is to 30 FT lbs. Detailed instructions are included with the investment of a GMR Pro-series gasket so do not be concerned, just follow the steps and you will have a mess / worry free seal.
