Is the exhaust going to be coated or stay raw? I kind of like it the way it is right now. Looking great guys!

Car looks very nice.

This picture give's me an idea for my next project. The Tank mounted above the heater core box would look cool if it was somehow partially tucked into it.

Some progress and detail pics.

Ok, a couple of questions... What made you go with the heater box and not a flat firewall? What wiper motor system is that?

Other than that, i'm just still in amazement. I love it when I get my notification that there is a post in this thread.

By the way I do like the Tilton reservoir. I figured it would get painted.:popcorn2:

As always, Roger, you do an awesome job.

Since the car has a 15 year old paint job and the vinyl roof. We saw no reason to flatten the firewall anymore then we did. We planned to run the bulkhead for the AC and heater through it for space and figured it would be less work to just powder coat the bolt on part, then weld, body work & paint whatever we could have done. The wiper motor is from newport engineering. We modified the wiper motor base to get it clocked in a better position.

With as much as we have done. There is a lot we have not done to this car. It is meant to be driven and have fun like his 57 chevy with and LS9 on one of our frames.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the explanation. Can you tell me what you had to do to the wiper motor as far as the modifications? I looked it up, not a bad price, but I like the way you have it clocked compared to their picture on the website.

Just cut and reweld something to reclock it. It was not tough but man we work on so much stuff I forget the actual process of what was done. It was not tough but made quite a bit more room.

Here is a glimpse of the front seats. I took inspiration from the New Dodge Dart commercial I saw on TV, Frank new Acadia Denali, and the new Camaro for this design. And of course the original Chevelle.

We got the car to Del Mar and the customer joined us at the show on Saturday at the event. He loved the details on the car. We are getting everything else sorted out on the car we are going to begin putting some miles on the car getting it ready for the road and maybe some track events this summer. Here are a few over all pics of the car.

Amazing work coming out of this shop, very nice!

Is the wheel base shorter than stock? It doesn't look like the wheel is centered in the rear, looks forward. Not a dig at all, looks perfect and changes the entire look of the car.

This car needs video with loud noises!

We set the wheel centerlines up to what looks good. Usually forward in the opening looks better but sometimes just lowering the car makes it look forward. We usually move the front wheels forward and the rear looks forward depending on the wheel opening shape.

Thanks

Videos are coming.

Having stopped by on my road trip to Phoenix --- I can personally speak from having seen the car.... it is BAD ASS. The dash billet is awesome! And as Dan just said - the stance is pure Ironworks. Rodger seems to have a knack for nailing that part.

There are cars that drive into a car show -- and EVERYONE just seems to fixate on them as they cruise by. You're not sure why -- you're not sure what's been done to it -- but it sucks you in and you can't look away. This is one of those.

The Fairway Chevrolet Chevelle is just about ready for the Interior shop.

We have been held up on a sway bar that is on NASCAR back order. Apparent the bar I need is used on the new Gen 6 cars and they are still filling orders from the NASCAR boys.

The customer really liked the red interior in the stock Chevelle and wanted to go with that. He wanted something that looked nice but was not over the top or looked like it went in a 37 Chevy Street rod.

I'm excited to get the car back next week and begin really laying into the car. The customer and I have talked about attending an Autocross or two for the weekend to go have fun with the car. He really enjoys driving his 57 Chevy with our frame and an LS9 or his new ZL1 Camaro. He thinks the ZL1 might collect dust when he gets the Chevelle back to Vegas.

Thanks Guys. We delivered this car to the customer in Scottsdale a few weeks ago for him to drive it back to Las Vegas. The car has nearly 1100 miles on it with many more to come.

Hot Rod Magazine has has asked us to participate in the flog test they do of cars that interest them. We are waiting on solid dates for this event.

I hated to leave the car as it is probably the most FUN car we have ever built. It sits perfect and rides even better and is a super fast street car.

I will see what pics I have that were never posted as I forgot to update the thread. Looks like we will be building a pretty radical 55 Chevrolet for the same customer.

Soon enough. It will be low, It will very understated, It will have lots of big body mods and it will have 900-1000hp using a Chevrolet crate engine.

Very, very nice!

Thank you very much. The whole team in the shop did a great job. The customer says the drive of this car rivals his ZL1 Camaro but looks way cooler.

Scott, Rodger said upwards of 1000 hp. I don't think the new LT has enough aftermarket support to get to that level yet. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. And, I'm pretty sure the stock stuff can't support that much. But, I don't anything, I'm just saying.

Funny you should say that. So was the customer. He really wants to do a 69 with the LT1 engine. Chevrolet is being very tight with those engines and when they might be available.

The cool thing is that Hot Rod is still interested in running the car in a flog test at some point I guess which is what this car was intended for in the first place. Lets try this again. I put up all these pictures a few weeks ago then due to what ever malfunction we lost like 8 days of posts.

The Fairway Chevrolet 1970 Chevelle has been all over the magazines lately. We got a cover spot on Popular Hot Rodding this month, Maximun Drive ran a feature on the car and a few weeks ago we were invited to do the Hot Rod Magazine Flog test for the vehicle. More on the flog test next.

In September of last year when the Goodguys road tour came through town Jesse Kiser of Hot rod Magazine saw the car and invited us to participate in the flog test. He thought the car had the perfect stance but wanted to know if it worked at that ride height. I assured him it did.

Well fast forward to March when they finally got the dates and time nailed down. The Flog test would cover 3 days all over California. Monday of the test week would be at the Westech Dyno out in Fontana/Pomona area. Tuesday would be run at Willow Springs on the road course and skid pad. Thursday we would run the car down the drag strip in Fontana.

So on Monday I got in the cat at 4am to leave Bakersfield. I drove the car straight down I5 to the 210 all the way out to Westech. Its very had to do the speed limit or less in this car but I still managed 20 mpg at 80mph.

The car managed to put 570 hp and torque down to the ground on the dyno. I was expecting 470 to the ground but apparently GM under rates this crate engine just a little. They had to drop the air pressure on the rear tires to get the power to hold on the big rollers at the low RPM roll in. That blower gets going pretty fast.

The flog test was not a race as much as just 10 different articles comparing 9 cars against a base line set but an 850 hp Mustang Super Snake. There was a very broad variety of cars, 32 fords, 70 cuda, 67 firebird convertible, Newman Car Creations 57 Chevrolet with L.L. green wheels and a C-10 truck. It was funny the cars that drove to the event performed the best and the trailer queens had a few issues. I think Kyle Newman and I were the only ones to not do a thing to our cars.

I was more then pleased with the results of our car. This car is not intended to be a race car super star but just an actual pro-touring car. It hauls ass and gets great mileage and handles great for a car that has zero testing beyond the seat of the pants adjustments to the Ridetech Triple adjustable coilovers. There was a fully prepped new body style mustang and I hope for his sake he was not out performed by any of the OLD IRON.

On Thursday we did not have to be to Fontana until 12 noon so I got some much needed sleep and got some work done before driving the car south thru LA Fontana to run it down the strip. I knew the car would do pretty well at this event since it had the 2nd highest horsepower rating.

The car wound up running a best pass of 3 at a 12.50 at 115 mph. The Super Snake with 850 hp only managed a 12.00. Every other car was in the 13's. I did not change the tire pressure and after the passes I got back in the car and drove it home. Knocking down 20mpg.

Man I love this car. Its so much fun to drive and gets so much attention. Thank you to Fairway Chevrolet for letting us work on a 2nd car for you and we are excited about the progress going on the 3rd.

Here is a sneak peak at what we currently have going.

one piece door glass for the '55....

We have discussed that but with the major body mods on this car we want the car to still look fairly stock even though we sectioned that car. We think the wing windows will help carry the vibe we are looking for.

Looking forward to seeing more on this build!!!!

This one will be bad with a 1000hp chevrolet crate engine.

Who is doing your concept renderings now?

Eric Black

We don't do alot of the renderings but we are trying to dial in the look of the One Off wheels that Evod is doing. This is just a prelim drawing.

The car looks great. 20 mpg on the hwy and a 12.5 at the dragstrip makes for one hell of a Pt car.

It looks like you guys ran Clockwise at Street of willow. What kind of times did the car run on that course?

Thanks Rob

They did not tell us and had some funk way they were calculating the track times. I think they obviously want to keep some of the results.

The professional shoe said the car was a lot more capable on the track then the seat was for keeping him in it. But he said the car turned in alot better then any muscle car he had ever driven did.

Whatever all at that means.

The guys From Hot Rod thought I might be bringing the vinyl top and fender trim back into style.

Thanks guys. This project was fun in the fact that really could not change anything on the outside of the project. Just the stance and interior. So we put a ton of effort into the stance to make it killer. The 19" front wheel is 295mm wide and turns nearly lock to lock without interference. At the last 1/8 inch of turn it rubs the sway bar but nothing else. But the work it took to get that 19" front wheel at this height was a ton. But I really think that is what makes this car look so good. The car looks to be alot lower then it actually is. Which is what sets it apart from some many of the others.

Everyone always wants to know whose a arm package we installed and you tell them we took our prototype version of the 68-72 chevelle chassis and did lot more work to hid the frame and suck it up closer to the body and the modified the body accordingly for the look we wanted and the built a bunch of trick stuff to make it cool.

Thanks again guys. But these cool cars are not really a result of us but the customers who allow us to go as far as we went with this car for these results. The bills have to be paid before anything cool can be built.

Fairway Chevrolet in Las Vegas is a great place to buy cars or crate engines.

Yeah we got invited to the big dance. I hope we did well enough to be invited back some other time. I have been racing on dirt in a few different forms for a few years and the customer raced off road desert stuff for like 25 years. We had a great time and the event motivated the customer to want to make some changes from the street car it was intended to be to the a car we may autocross more next year and participate in some track events next year.
