View Full Version : My NEW Wayne Due subframe arrived today

Here's my NEW subframe that just arrived from Wayne Due (www.waynedue.com). It uses DSE control arms and their coil over assembly. It has an AGR power rack with Baer trackers and Phil Brewer billet steering arms. The sway bar is from Speedway Engineering. It uses the stock spindle.

What's slick about this setup is if you already own aftermarket tubular arms, big wheels and brakes for a 1st Gen, those parts will bolt on to this all new Wayne Due subframe. It will also allow 10" wheels to be used and the track width is stock.

Since this is new from Wayne and I expect there to be a lot of interest, I'll post a BUNCH of pics.

I see just a wee bit of Phil Brewer in that sub frame. Very Cool. PM or email me Scott on the speedway sway bar IE where to get one please. I sold my sub frame bare to a friend in anticipation of Waynes subframe hitting the market. Thanks for the cool pix.

I remember talking to Wayne about a marketing a stock replacement setup early last year. Looks like he finally got it done and looks killer. I don't think welding can be much nicer than that.

You know if all the parts were on the car, it takes up a lot less floor space. :P j/k. Looking good Scott.

That is a beautiful looking piece. What are the pros/cons vs. his Corvette based frames? Is it the stock track width that is the attractive point?

Just curious.

I think the main issue with the corvette frame is the bump steer.I believe it has to do with the location of the rack.

The whole purpose of this frame is to a stock replacement that allows wider front tires and give the guys with stock sub replacement parts an alternative to the stock frame without having to start over. I don't think there is any performance advantage to the sub itself, just bling factor. I felt at the time when I brought it up to Wayne, it was the last niche market for Camaro subs that had not been tackled yet. What I don't see in the pic is whether he left it with stock steering or went to a rack. I will venture a guess with the steering arms on there you are going rack.

I have one of the earliest (pre-Wayne Due) clips out there and it is impressive to see how far the design has come in the last seven or eight years. For example, it looks like Wayne Due saved some weight in the frame horn area (where the bumper mounts) and the main crossmember looks reinforced. Looks like it accepts taller shocks, too. I could keep going on.

Now if only one of these clip manufacturers would add a front jacking point forward of the main crossmember. I absolutely hate jacking up the front of my car--especially with the front spoiler. And I already have a low profile jack. The old 2x4 trick is okay, but not if the car is disabled or disassembled.

Hey Scott,
Just for the hell of it, measure the witdh to the outside of the main (forward) frame rails. My old clip measures 37.25" wide.

Scott, you're being bombarded with questions but I have to throw one more at you. Is this frame the "stock replacement" frame that Wayne Due was talking about a few months back or is it something else? I talked to Wayne about a month ago about the stock replacement and I thought he told me that the stock steering box would work on it. I don't see the holes for the stock box on your frame. Was yours customized for the rack or is the stock steering not an option on this frame?

Thanks. Looks awesome by the way.

I've spoken with Wayne about possibly letting us (ATS) offer a bone stock type replacement frame that would use the factory style (or our new 670) steering box, sway bar, upper and lower control arms (with factory UCA pickup points to make use of our tall AFX spindle), and crossmember. I know that the frame is much more labor intensive to make due to the odd angles that the parts mount at, but I feel it will be a largely popular item, and to those who want that updated look, well worth the price..

Exactly. Also, if you already have aftermarket brakes for a first Gen, you won't have to worry about changing them because this setup uses the factory spindle. Another key feature is that this frame still maintains the stock track width. So if you already have wheels, you don't have to worry about getting new ones to accomodate the wider than stock track width of the C4/C5 setup that requires high positive offset Vette style wheels.

If you're starting from scratch, then yes, the C4/C5 setup would probably be the way to go, but this at least gives a lot of guys a new option without dumping everything they already have. Personally, on top of all those factors I just gave, packaging is big concern. I need all the room I can get for downpipes - that required a front steer rack. This frame is perfect for where I'm at and what I'm doing with my project.

Those look like 100% koni coil overs to me. :unibrow:

It appears as though the shockwaves would fit, the only concern I would have is with the clearance around the swaybar endlinks.

Shoot now I'm deciding (in my master pre-purchase planning) if I want to go C5 front end, or with this conventional setup. :willy:
