So can you guys please explain the main difference between 31 and 35 spline axles are 35 bigger diameter for strength? I have 31 spline axles that I bought about a year ago, and I called strange engineering this morning they tech told me that I should use 35 spline axles, I plan on running sc ls3 with around 750 to 850 horse, what are your thoughts thanks

what tires are you using.?

We use 31's all the time and have never seen a problem on a street car.
I used to have 28 spline strange axles (before i knew anything) in my 9.90 Mustang that had a 650 hp BBF and 14x 32 slicks. they lasted 4 years....

Yes a 35 spline axle is bigger in diameter and obviously has more splines then a 31 . I ran 33 spline axles on my drag car with 900+ Hp and never had them twist. I stepped up to 35 spline when I built a new rear end only because, there was no price difference and I added more Hp. I agree with KILLER69.. you should be fine with a 31 spline specially if you're not drag racing and on street tires

Here's a link to a TQ chart for rating axles.. I've heard it's pretty accurate

750-850hp......IMO you are flirting with disaster should you choose a 31 spline, those numbers justify a 33-35 spline. Sleep at night and take Strange's experienced opinion.

I am sure when you called/talked with Strange, the sales/tech asked all the necessary questions prior to his 35 spline recommendation? If so, why would you think Strange (axle GURU's) would steer you wrong? Strange is a solid source and if they are recommending 35 spline for your specific application I would not look to other less knowledgable sources.

Many on this site have individual opinions (as myself) but very few have more real world experience than Strange......listen to the professionals

I agree I would go with the experience of Strange. I went with the safe route and went 35-spline in my 9". Id rather have the piece of mind and know I wont have to do it twice.
