Gonna have to get that boy some driven lessons, I dont think he gave The Ironworks chassis or those Michelin's a fighting chance. Sucks that they kicked him off the track...I did'nt know the autocross was such a serious event.

Guys like that are why memberships exist, so you can yank them. This isn't formula drift, this is autocross, and assholes like that make it harder for the regular folks to get insurance and take up a ton of time while course workers reset the course.

Why call him an asshole?? Do you know him personally?? This guy is probably one of the top 10 tallented car builders in the US!!! Have you ever thought that maybe he's not the caliber of driver that you are?? I'm pretty sure this was his first time ever at a Goodguys autocross. He has never had any driving lessons other than drifting a damned old pick-up truck on a dirt road. Cut the man some slack he was just blowin off some steam after several months of thrashing to get this car done to deliver it to it's owner.

Fair enough, ill downgrade it to jackass, because only a jackass would do something like that. He had no semblance of control and was a danger to himself and others.

I've spectated at a few events, never autocrossed. Take it for what it's worth. It seems the track is kept pretty small and tight. Kinda regulates how much momentum you can build up. Strategically placed barricades here and there but mostly just fence and a lot of folks standing up against it. Seems a bad place to "do your own thing". Regardless of talent or intentions, that was really poor judgement.

Actually at a SCCA autocross that wouldn't have been such a bad thing, I mean its kind of a dick move to make other racers chase cones, but you dont have the chance to run over little kids and non racers like you do at the GG things. I am just saying what a lot of people already think.

Well there you go the voice of many from "One"....
You know you should really do an event from your west coast Ivory tower because so far you're "way smarter" than the collective """Good Guys""" and """The American Street Car Series""" efforts combined... Just ask anyone, right ROFLMFAO...

I have been attending GG autox events for years now.If someone really gets out of control Trent will go over and talk to them if he thinks what they did was uncalled for.A hand full of us are serious about this stuff.Attending a goodguys or American streetcar event is way better deal than some Stuffy Whine and cheese SCCA ($60.00 for 4 run's) event. You get way more runs for your money. And Most of us are way FASTER too.

That 57 had 8600 original miles on it when it was mounted on our chassis. I was unaware small shoes could push a big pedal so far. I will post pics of the car when Im back in the office tomorrow. I actually do run events from time to time. I prep all the cars, build the course, even change the tires half way though the day because they wear out, and will have 500-750 runs on the same 3 cars without a hitch. There is a difference between having fun and being stupid. At my venue if you go off course there really isn't anything to hit, and you have to pick up the cones you hit yourself so there's no one to piss off. There is a certain amount of respect needed when you're tossing around a $100,000 4500lb sedan at 1G.
LOL not mad buddy,,,, just reflecting on the stupidity he seems to revel in LOL.....

If that was the same run, I don't get all the hubbub. It looked more embarrassing than dangerous. In the blurry cell video, and with the comments I read (first), I assumed he had cleared almost every cone on the course, and nearly went through the fence. In this video, it seemed pretty slow and jerky, like he spent almost as much time on the brakes as the loud pedal.
Am I missing something?
Edit - I'm not trying to be an azz or start something. I'm really curious because I will make my autocross debut eventually, and would hope for a better "review". :)
Is a bit of self control, restraint, composure, etc, more important than the absolute fastest time possible at events like this?

All driving events are about car control... smooth is fast/slow is fast... and there is a time penalty per cone moved etc. But IMHO it's also about having a bit of fun and once in awhile some entertainment... provided nobody is in harms way.
I remember a certain grey Mercedes being "drifted" and doing doughnuts after OUSCI one year. Everyone was talking about it - everyone enjoyed watching the guy go nuts - and we will all remember it. We're car guys... I don't think "management" was thrilled about it though. They - of course - have "responsibility". And they have to contain this kind of behavior because if they don't someone will get hurt and then they'll have a legal/moral issue.
Lord knows I've worked enough "events" -- and trust me -- if you're out there in the middle of the course - or on the sides as a "cone head"... these cars coming at you @ mach 9 is a bit nerve wracking. So I totally get some folks thinking that this is "unsafe or stupid or..."
If you knew Neal - you'd know that he was most likely just having a bit of fun. I don't know him well - but we've had dinner together (with Ironworks crew) and he has a wickedly quick wit... and I can see the devil in his eyes and the shizzle eating grin on his face as he was doing this.
BTW -- as you know -- sideways is not fast... so you can't have both. You're either real serious about your times -- or you can go out and enjoy yourself a bit.
Just so we don't have anymore cat fights - I'll take back the statement "sideways is not fast" -- in the hands of the RIGHT driver -- such as the drift champion (not Tanner Foust) they brought out at OUSCI one year - that crushed everyones times drifting the entire course... Not only was is kool to watch -- it was some amazing driving 'cause this guy was hauling azz and having fun too.

...or on the sides as a "cone head"...
All driving events are about car control...
I get that. Even in drag racing (my usual forte), making safe passes is always the rule of the day, but balls-to-the-wall is still the way down the track (except maybe in bracket racing). I almost get the feeling sometimes that this is 8-9/10ths competition. No problem, if so, I'm just trying to learn the politics before I jump in. I can see how that can be possible at events like Goodguys, saving the all-out racing for serious events like OUSCI, etc?
I'm really asking because, as a drag racer, I have an 11/10ths mentality (even when being safe). I'm not so much about just having fun, as (safely) finding the limits. If that's "wrong" in these circumstances, I don't have a problem dialing it back.

Here are some pictures of Greg Heinrich's 8600 original miles 57 Chevrolet. It has carbon brakes and an LS9. It weighs 3800 lbs. Neil has the car super slammed right now but plans to raise it up to make it more user friendly on the public roads. Greg liked the handling and solidness of the ride that he ordered a frame for a 1970 Chevelle this weekend while in Columbus. Enjoy these pics

I understand the need for a more user friendly ride height on public roads, but that stance is perfect now. Also one of the nastiest LS exhaust notes I've ever heard on a LS street motor. Almost sounds like a chambered setup.

Gorgeous. I really like that color. Only thing I don't like are the front wheels. Something needs to be done about them. Way too much offset. Can the body accommodate a wheel with less offset so there's actually a lip on the front too?
Glad you've got another happy customer Rodger.

We offer a set of narrowed control arms and have relocated the rack position since I sold this chassis with the DSE rack now having a 20:1 ratio. But the owner of the car owns a Chevrolet dealership and wanted to run a much factory GM parts as possible and had no interest in any non GM parts. They were also very limited on wheels due to the carbon ceramic brakes on the car. Those brakes are HUGE.
But I'm not sure anything needs to be done to the owners cars as he is very happy with everything. It's exactly what he wants. I believe the car has a 275 front tire on it.

Rodger told me that 57 had something like 6000 original miles on it when they put the Ironworks chassis in it !!:faint:
I can't remember if it was 6 or 8 but it had 2 oil change stickers on the drivers door from the late 50's or early 60's and it had less than 4000 back then. It is a true time capsule.... Or was... Ever how you look at it. It is by far my favorite car he has done to date, this one is a driver:unibrow:
