Ive been restoring my mustang for the past 3 years now and am somewhat new to the forum world but a buddy of mine started a thread for his build so i felt like doing one on my car.
I bought the car when i was 16 and have been fixing it up since then. I wanted to be able to drive the car as I restore it which is why it is not going to be like the typical build that is completely stripped. I have done quite a lot to the car so far and will be posting pictures of everything Ive done from coil-overs in the front to a glove box radio mount.
I wanted to do the body work last so I could have a fundamentally stable ride then finish with the paint etc.
I have a lot planned for the car like a tubular upper control arms. Hope you guys enjoy.

Welcome Keeping it on the road is a good plan. Once you tear it down to a non driver you'd be surprised how long it takes to get it back on the road. Some never make it back.
That's a sweet starting point. Some people overlook the coupes but they bitchen little cars. Back in high school my friends dad had an immaculate k code black GT 4 speed. If I ever had an all original car that would be it.
How about some more details? What are your future plans?

Ya I've been told that so I am trying to keep it on the road as long as possible. Thankyou, ya I have found out they get overlooked quite often.
I will post some more pictures of what I have been doing tonight or this weekend with details, I have quite a few pics in my library.
As far as future details I have a ford 9" housing from speedway Im going to put in with a true track. Im also doin some stuff like a Prod in the back and a custom boxed lower control arms and tubular upper control arms...I have a few things in mind.

This was the interior when i got the car.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj486/stewbear42/18b2cdb3.jpg
Pulled up all the carpet and replaced some rusted floor panels.

The new interior, replaced seat foam, new seat covers, new carpet, steering wheel, sanded down the dash like some old shelbys had and painted the dash flat black, new door panels w/ new handles etc. and painted the area around the door panel. The guy who had it before me hacked up the old radio so i cut it out and made a radio delete. The guy who had it before me decided to put a new style emergency brake in as well.

One of the next things I did was sand down the undercar and put Maier Racing subframe connectors on that drastically stiffened up the car. After I had the floor all sanded down i pulled the tranny and put a rebuilt top-loader 4speed in with a hurst super shifter. I also painted the drive shaft then painted the under car.

Inside the front fenders i welded in a piece of metal to strengthen up the front of the car. I jacked the car up and would notice the front of the car flexing a lot. The second picture is by the cowl and the firewall. Just another way to stiffin up the car. They were both really easy to do, free besides the metal and worked out well.

Awhile ago i put new rear suspension in. I put new leaf springs from Maier Racing and Bilstein shocks in as well as new spring plates and the car handled drastically better then it had before. Once I had the springs and shocks all dialed in a buddy of mine helped me put in a Panhard rod kit from Maiers as well. I didnt want to dump the exhaust because I have been told that it can be apian with the exhaust coming back into the car so we rerouted the exhaust around the Prod. The drivers side was not difficult to do but the passenger side took some time but once it was all in it looked and worked out really well. Tok us about 6 hours to do including all the exhaust work.

I have been auto crossing my grandpas 1965 C Prepared shelby for almost three years but due to engine issues (cracked head) we havent been able to run it for awhile so I took my car aout this weekend for the first time and was more then pleased with the results. I will post a video of the run tomorrow.

Since he has a Maier Racing decal on the windshield, I'd say this one is more appropriate.

I put some delrin strut rod bushings in the other day. I also put the battery in the trunk of the car and hammered out the front fenders, soon doing the rear qtrs to about a inch flare on them so I can lower the car more.
I was looking around my work and found a bunch of old vintage trans-am/can-am racing posters so made a collage of them in my room and thought you guys might like to see.

It has been awhile since ive posted but here are a couple things ive done recently. Put an X-Brace to connect the subframe connectors under the car. Pictures after that are from a new radiator me and my buddy put in. It is a Griffin Aluminum and we used the fan shroud off of a late model mustang.

Took the car out auto crossing again this past weekend. It was pushing like a dumptruck but I good time. My buddy that has been helping me wrench on the car co-drove with me and he is the second video. We are going to put a torsion bar setup in the rear that hopefully will eliminate the pushing and allow the car to rotate better. The camera was focused on us so its hard to see the track fyi.

Ive been busy with school and working so I havent been able to work as much as I would have liked, but here is the car as of recently.

The Car completely stripped. I took the front fenders off to strip them better.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj486/stewbear42/IMG_2464_zpsca4bafb6.jpg
Fenders back on and just about to start all the blocking and sanding on the car. I got a fiberglass gt350 style hood from my grandpas attic. My uncle had it on his car back in the 80's but forgot to latch it one day and it flew up and cracked where the hinges bolt on. I got it and repaired the fiberglass and it worked out good for me. Ill post some pics of the repair soon.

Haha yeah but my flares won't be as extreme as those going with a more shuttle approach, the main reason for the flares is the wheel well is rusted out so I have to replace the metal so I figure I'd might as well flare it so I can put some fatter wheels on. Those are cool flares though.

yeah looks good ! Great result for home brewed work. You must have some experience with this stuff though. The rear flares came out especially nice, I wish you had shown a picture of it being bondoed. Maybe I don't have much experience with the stuff but it sure seems like you'd have to feather it out a long ways to cover up the 1/8" thick flare flange.

The control arms are stock Moog arms with a AFCO coilover shock and a hyperco spring. The shock is mounted on the lower control arm where the strut rod mounts and the upper part of the shock mounts on the inside of the shock tower. I also have delirium strut rod bushings and a 1 1/8 front sway bar.

Used a simular setup on my fastback I replaced the upper arm with a AFCO piece with a Shelby drop . Made a custom mount which bolted up into where the old spring mount sat in the tower using AFCO shock mount welded to the removable plate ,this can be all built for a lot less than any Brand name setups .

Interesting upper mount placement. Heres another option that is common in Brazil on Mavericks. What do you think of this?

It wasnt a suggestion but more of a "if you did that then maybe you might have an opinion on this...: kind of post. My thoughts are, you better have a pretty serious Monte Carlo Bar if you plan on getting aggressive with this suspension design.
