Looking around trying to get some ideas. I have no sub belt slot on my seats and was thinking about a cam lock for easier in/out. I heard Crow's are pretty comfortable but they come in 2 and 3" width. Is 3" too wide for a car that will see some street/some track duty? What are you guys using and do you like it?

Love to hear your opinions

The 3" belts don't really bother me in my street car (they do pinch in my lap a little if i'm wiggling around ). I have 5 point 3" Simpson cam lock in the Camaro and had DJ safety 5 point 3" cam lock in the race car. I liked them both, except Simpson won't re-cert belts. Once I went to the cam lock style, I'll never go back to latch type. The one thing i don't like about not running a sub belt is when you tighten the shoulder harnesses it makes the lap belt climb JMOHO

The 3" dont bother me and cam lock is definitely the cleanest looking. I personally wont run without a sub belt but if that is what you choose I would still go with a 4 point. I like the look of the eye bolts for lap belts. Thats what I have in my white '69 and you could barely see them coming up through the carpet. Just be sure to install the top washer before carpet.

How about a Schroth Racing ASM harness

http://www.schrothracing.com/store/Tuning/rallye/rallye-cross

Basically a 4 point harness that keeps you from sliding under the lap belt because the shoulder straps stretch at different rates.

I have no experience using them, but it is one of the options I am considering for my car.

Also, check this video out:

I have 3" Crow cam lock 5 points in my car. I started with RJS latch type and I like the cam lock way better. I would buy the Crow's again. That said as I am sure you know safety harnesses on a street car can be a PITA.

I kinda like my RJS latch link 3" 4 points.... but it's all I've known. I did take a ride in Rob Chandler's car at Goodguys 2 weeks ago and he had 2" belts and while they are fine on the autoX they wouldn't make me feel very secure on a road course is what I was thinking at the time.

That being said, I plan to upgrade to a cam lock at some point, and most likely a 5 point as well.

Those Schroth 4 pts do seem to be liked by a lot of people.

I have the RJS 3" in the falcon, mustang and dad's ranchero. Right now they only have the lap belts since none of them have a cage or roll bar YET.

I like them.

From a safety stand point, I agree. it's just with some seats you don't have that option

RON, I'm sure Mr fab can cut a hole for a sub belt in your seats :willy:

Thx fellas for your input...

Gae/Jerr...good point on the sub belt. Really the seat base could be modified.

Any chance someone could post up some pictures of their setup?

Here's a few pics of the 3 point harnesses in the white Camaro. This is what I meant by using eyelet bolts for the lap belts. After drilling hole you could tack weld washer under carpet, install padding and carpet and then run eyelet bolt and a clasp set up.

i plan on the schroth 4 pts. not the best option, but the anti sub feature is nice. i dont plan on using them unless im at the track. i ran simpsons for a few years and never wore the top straps on the street. pretty stupid to be running around with just a lap belt. make sure you use whatever you get, or put in 3 pts for street use.

Would really like to see the connections to the rollbar and to the floor. I look at the NHRA specs and am somewhat confused about the proper connections.

Everything seems to just miss what I am looking for. In that example the snap on hooks are being used to fasten the harness to the floor. It also shows examples of wrap around fastening such as you would do with shoulder harnesses as well as something called a roller fastener. If you look at the red fastener on the top part of the photograph, that is the floor mounting brackets I have. Should I use a snap on hook or a clevis arrangement? Anyone have a picture of an NHRA sanctioned hook up of the belt to one of those brackets.

Also, note the Rollbar has bolt holes in it. Should I bolt in an eye hook and use the snap ons there as well or is there a clevis arrangement that is more suitable. I notice that it is not recommended just to bolt the fixed end fasteners to the rollbar.

Track Junkie almost shows the shot I want to see but his to fastener image is nto very clear.
