Today I went to install the doors on my 70 chevelle coupe for the first time. I bought these doors from a friend, who told me the skins were brand new. I've ever installed doors in my life on any car so this was my first attempt.

It seems like the corner edge above the door handle doesn't fit correct. If you look at the pics below you can see the white door was orig door that came with the car (completely rotted out) and the tan door is the new one.

Do i just need to bend the sheetmetal over or cut it to the proper angle? If so how do you recommend I do this?

i want to say to roll it over and hammer and dolly it flat. I would say be careful not to hammer it to much as to stretch and flaten the metal. It looks like it wants to be rolled over. this car looks to be about a 70-72?

Looking at the picture of the inside it doesn't seem like the skin was installed properly, can you take a picture from farther back, how does the rest of the door gap look? Also how does it line up to the fender?

Anyone have a pic of a 70-72 monte carlo, i have reason to believe these doors might be for a monte, the joys of buying a project car in pieces.

If you look at the pic you can see the edge of the inner shell made a creese in the skin. Whoever installed the skins didn't roll that corner right. It isn't a big deal. I would mark where the edge should be and take a flat, square dolly and slowly bend the coner using a body hamer with the dolly underneath until it's where it should be. From that point it should be fairly easy to keep bending that extra steel over until it's flush on the inside. A door skin is roughly bent on the edges when you get it and it's up to the installer to bend the edges over with a hammer an dolly to sandwhich the inner shell. You have to repeatedly fit the door to the car, not just install it and call it done.

If the chevelles are like the 69 camaro, the front lower edge of the door sits back from the front edge of the rocker panel aprox 1/8 to 1/4 inch, I beat my head against the wall on this spot because if you line the front edge up even it will not line up on the qtr to door edge correctly, just thought I would throw that out there maybe save somebody a little agravation
