Driving down the 405 (local traffic nightmare in LA) today:
Facebook IPO day and a local AM radio station does a money hour. In between Greg's portfolio update (kidding GW - Facebook stock ticker), today was an 'expert' on classic car valuations. I will say the guy was realistic in the market from what I've seen and the Wall Street DJ/host was a pretty good lead.
I say F'it I'll play...
Guy before me has an unrestored 69 Camaro vert original drivetrain. Valuation was mid 20s. I'm up --
DJ: Here we have Ron in Los Angeles. What do you have Ron?
Me: Hey, great segment guys. I'm kinda on the fringe here and would love to hear what you guys think. I've got a Pro Touring 69 Camaro, ground up restore, contemporary Corvette LS7 dry sump motor, Six speed transmission, Art Morrision subframe, Detroit Speed Quadralink, Forgeline wheels, Recaros (that's a stretch) and 14" Baer brakes. What do you guys think?
DJ/Expert: (silence)
Expert: Well that's a special car you have there Ron. I'd really need to see some pictures and a more complete description of your car. You can email me at...(I wasn't listening at this point).
DJ: But I would say this is a car that the right person would pay good money for. Just a matter of finding that buyer.
Me: (Thoughts of LatG plug or thanking them behalf of Howard Stern) Alright guys, thanks for your time!
Just then Mike Norris hits me on call waiting. I'm thinking...idiots on line one, expert line two. I clicked over as soon as I could but had to call Mike back.
First off, funny sheet right? Mainstream 'experts' (read: dealers) have no idea what we do. I'm sure the other callers are thinking Mecum/BJ; listeners? "who the F is this guy?' :lol:
