I am rebuilding and adding many goodies to my 305 chevy. i was just wondering what people know and think about the 305. and does anyone know the rpm range on it?

if a boat achor ok,for a car engine no there junk.i had a 305 iroc and it was a no power pos.you get a nice 350 cheap.

Don't waste your time. For the same money you can build a hell of a lot better motor starting with a 350 block.

They can be improved like any engine but not a real strong platform.

I just meant that SBC parts are the same cost no matter if they're for a 265 or a 400. If 350 blocks are abundant in your area, I'd definitely spend a little extra for a good one and start there.

The problem with the 305 is the small bore shrouds the valves on any good cylinder head which really hurts the airflow and thus power. If you really can't find a junkyard 350 to start with there are heads specifically made for the 305, I think they are World Products. :)
