I am wondering if anyone here is a home hvac tech and can lend a fellow member a hand? I would love to afford someone to come right over and fix it but with work slow, baby on way and trying to get our 67 C10 running it is super hard. So if anyone has some knowledge and wants to help me out let me know. I am working with trane ex78 and xl1200 unit. Thanks Brandon

I'm a sales engineer for Trane, but I grew up installing and repairing HVAC for my dads company. What's the issue?

Hard for me to explain but will try my best and can check anything needed on my end. When I cut my heat on it only blows cool air out from vents no matter how long unit is on. Last night I cut it on but when went outside the trane xl1200 as not on. Not sure where to start with checks but I know I wanna fix it badly cause I have it for one and jet heater cost to much to run at $3.70 gallon. If you can give me some checks I can start there and let you know results. Thanks again Brandon

Ok couple of questions.

The xl 1200 ( outdoor unit) is it a heat pump?
Is your indoor unit gas heat, or electric heat?

Just wanted to post regarding how great it is that Lat-G brings folks together for stuff like this.

Carry on!

The xl 1200 is a outside heat pump, the indoor unit in ceiling is electric. I wnt to Thank you for taking time to help a fellow member out. I will be home all day tomorrow so I can do any checks etc you can think of on my end. Thanks again Brandon

Since the outdoor unit is a heat pump it will loose the heating capacity as the outside temp drops. Your backup electric heat should come on. If your electric heat won't come on its probably tripping out on an airflow switch or high limit switch. Check out this website for more info and let me know if you. Can get your electric heat to energize.

I don't do a ton of house stuff but have been around it a bit. This is what I would do.

Pull the control panel on the outdoor unit, if it's newer it should have a control board with status/trouble light on it.
If you have a light that is flashing, 2 times than pause, 4 times than pause etc. Look on the back of the panel at the schematics, it should give the reason for the lock out.

If you have a meter, you should be looking for power. Start at the disconnect at the outdoor unit. Next try the contact inside the unit, is the contact pulled in? If not, does it have voltage going to the coil?
L1 L2 and T1 T2 are line voltage (120-230) the coil is the smaller wires (24v) lower on the contact (either on the side or lower than the T1 T2 terminals)

Something else to try, especially when people are trying to help without being there. Cycle the power, turn it all off and than back on. With the stat in a call for heat, listen to what the outdoor unit does when you turn power back on. Does the compressor come on, how about the fan, what kinda noises do you hear.

I'll be around tomorrow (thursday) I can pm you my number if you still need help.

Whoa I thought I did something wrong before I read the thread seeing that Scott posted  I finally broke down and hired a hvac guy a buddy knows well and he did a check up for $50.00. Now the bad the xl 1200 is only wired up for a/c and needs a part to get the fan moving again (which part is cheap) then I need to have the xl1200 outside unit wired to thermostat, next I found out that I will need propane since ex78 handler as I call it in ceiling is gas unit. Then if I want to use the 2 together from my under standing I need a duel fuel thermostat. I kinda figured my luck but he said could do all work parts etc $400 off his head would give me a full break down tomorrow. So trying to figure out how to explain to wife since she is like you don't need the gas. So what should i do since it is a dual fuel heat pump set up? Normal temp in garage in winter is 40 before i warm it up and summers are like 98 when super hot out. Thanks for all help you guy's have offered and know you guy's like to help fellow members out (it show's here) but I don't wanna have anything go wrong in garage if I can pervent it so I called in a pro. Thanks again post up thoughts etc and will keep you guy's informed. Brandon

You got me...I figured this was your house! Pregnant wife, no heat, work is slow...sheesh. I'd say if money is tight right now, hold off, no sense pissin the wife off over garage heat.
Do what we do around here, big boy pants and some Carhart!
