I looking for some advice. I have original white deluxe door panels in my 69 Camaro that are in great shape. I am changing the interior from white to black. Everything I have read about the repop door panels has been negative... so I am at the point of thinking I need to either paint or dye them. Anyone had success doing this?

If so I was looking at OER Interior Paint Black Laquer. It says it is to be used for door panels, vinyl soft trim pieces, headliners, kicks, etc. They also have the Vinyl Prep cleaning solution.

Any recommendations? In my search for information I have read about attempts to paint dash pads that had armoral residue that failed. I have to believe these have seen their fair share of armoral. Guidance on prep would be great too. I dont want to ruin a perfectly good set of door panels and have to buy a poor fitting set or repops so I am hopefull I can get some guidance on how to successfully change the color.

I saw the episode of Muscle Car on Spike where they painted/dyed the seats and door panels. Looked good on TV but we all know how that goes.

Thanks ~ Jeff

Use full strength simple green on the panels and it will remove armor all )and everything else for that matter)

Find an upholstery supply store that sells vinyl dye in a spray can. I did my honda civic back in high school with the vinyl spray dye and it came out awesome. It held up everywhere except the steering wheel.

Jeff, do what John said, but then get yourself some SPRAYWAY glass cleaner and go over the whole panel. Sprayway leaves no residue and is a good cleaner in itself. Sprayway can be found at Sam's Club and ACE Hardware.

I would not suggest the OER interior paint.

Search the internet for SEM Landau Black (15013) paint (some refer to it as a dye) and SEM Plastic/Leather Prep (38353) which softens the surface somewhat and acts like a primer as well. I have had great success with these products and they are widely know on a lot of car sites. Use light coats and build up from there with the Landau Black.
