Ok, here's the situation and I really need an answer.

So, erroneously I got the wrong bell housing (my fault, not anyone elses) and I want to see if it will work or not. It's already bolted up and in the car. (I really don't want to take it out)

The problem is that the bell housing is .400" too far away from the clutch assembly.

Long story short, I got the bellhousing for a T56 to a SBC and the one I really needed is the T56 to LS version. The only difference is that the SBC is .400" "taller" (think back of engine to rear-end length).

I was told that this should work in theory.

Any other thoughts from the peanut gallery?

Sorry, forgot to mention that this is a fully hydraulic clutch setup with a master and slave cylinder.

My best suggestion would be to put the one you have up for sale and buy the correct one. Your car is WAY too nice to skimp on making something like this work just "cause" you made a mistake when you ordered it. You shouldn't have any problem selling the one you have especially right here at Christmas.

i think your issue is going to be with the pilot bearing/bushing. you should be able to find a t/o bearing that can be shimmed, but it seems your input shaft is going to be too short. hopefully someone else has a better answer for you.

After battling TO bearing problems and removing the transmission 3 times to fix it. Fix it right the first time. My issues were related to the junk Mcleod bearings.

Do what is right and remove and install the correct bell housing. It will make things so much easier in the long run.

Thanks everyone.

As it turns out, the bellhousing I have does in fact work... how well, that's another story, but it does work.

I have decided to do it right and ordered the correct bellhousing.
