Goolsby Customs is proud to announce we have begun the build for Lokar on their 69 Camaro convertible to debut at Sema 2012. We are extremely honored and privileged to be chosen to build a car for such a great company with a tremendous reputation, and look foward to working with many great friends/partners on this project and creating something pretty special.

The talent pool of Ben Hemance was once again tapped to put some ideas on paper and he of course knocked it out of the park once again.

Lokar came down and brought us what turned out to be the nicest 1st gen we have probably ever seen ....

From the start of this build we knew we wanted to turn to our friends and those "all around great guys" at the Roadster Shop for another one of ther Fast Track Chassis. We have been using several of their frames lately and we have always said how great they were but when we got this chassis in I must say they do build them low, strong ,and fast

Wow cool build, I can't believe I read 2 posts in a row with unreal shells to start with? Where are people finding these things

Does that chassis require the complete floor cut out or how does it install?

This car is unreal but I dont know the story on where it came from exactly
The chsssis only requires minimal cuts to the floor, about the size cut you would make for sub-frame connectors and then a hole under the rear seat for the lower four link mounts, and lastly remove the rear sub-frame rails, I will post pics of that shortly

Tyler ,thanks we appreciate it....Now get off the computer and get to work on that ford :D
As far as the motor we had a Mast Ls3 535hp here for a second gen bird we are building ( build thread coming soon) but that customer wants more so that motor will now be going in the Lokar Camaro, so that worked out great

Here is a few that shows some of the cuts needed for the frame , as well as a little patch panel work

That body is in incredible shape! Should be really nice to work on something that is that clean from the start. Rendering came out sick as well. This should be a great build that we are glad to be a part of.

Yeah the shape of this body really makes it nice and I got a little back story on it as well, The car was parked in Tuscon for 17 yearsand went up for sale on Ebay , Skip Walls (owner of Lokar) was bidding on the car but had to go out of town and asked Kevin (Skip and Debbies son) to finish it up and by the car, well Debbieand some of the guys at Lokar got together and made some phone calls and bought the car without Skip knowing it and let him believe they lost the auction, Skip went on and on for three weeks how he got screwed out of the cleanest, nicest Camaro yada yada, then on the night of their company Christmas party they had it out front where they surprised him.
Pretty cool story

Here are some progress shots of the doors and trunklid where we are using CTS-V coupe door latches and strikers as well as a GM sedan trunk latch and made our own striker. These latches are power from the factory so that opens up some options for handles , but more importantly they shut and latch amazingly.

Stephen, we are doing a photoshoot with the 64 truck in a week or so and will get you some pictures then, as far as the build pics they are up on our website , didnt post them up here because I didnt think they were "Lat G" enough

here is a few more of the camaro showing the raised trans. tunnel, cut out firewall, as well as the frame pockets we did in the floors. The "leg" coming down on the side is where we will extend the rocker to and remove the pinch weld underneath for a cleaner look, thanks everyone and enjoy.

Thanks everybody,

Here are a few that show a small inlay panelwe did on the tail panel , nothing crazy just a clean little panel ,as well as a few that we took while the car came down off the stands for a bit

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx311/joshfbm37/lokar%20camaro/Image00160-1.jpg

Stock rear panel with Marquez lights , looks good but needed a little something extra

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx311/joshfbm37/lokar%20camaro/Image00161-1.jpg

cut out the area in between the tailights

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx311/joshfbm37/lokar%20camaro/Image00212.jpg

then re created the character line that goes around the lights and welded it in

welded in back panel to create the "box" for the new trim piece to reside

some updates for you guys!

Rear bumper and lower valance work,

I know there has been a lot of arguing as of late as to which came first the chicken or the....wait who's rear bumper came first or whos idea or what??
Well I will say this, me and Ben Hermance went back and forth on what to do on the rear bumper , because I have always hated how the rears dont even come close to matching the front so its only natural to mimic the front with the sides....lots of things are done the same on cars and its not always "copying"
..I dont know it seems that lately the "trend" has been toward building a modern interpretation of a muscle car etc.... well we are all getting inspiration from all sorts of places, oems ,high end exotics ,etc. ...should we all be taken to the wood shed for copying the rear diffuser off of the latest lambo, or that cool dash from the pagani, or that your has an LS just like mine or that our wheels are round just like yours , etc. I do see both sides and have been in the situation where I see something oddly familiar and say.....Oh cmon! , but you know what , unless you have created a perpetual motion device, hovering capabilities , or auto pilot then its not really "innovative" and is just your take on something that has been done 100 times before in some way or fashion and has had an influence on you wether directly or subconsciously ... Thats why we have so many builders if we all make our own tweaks... In the end all of us are doing what we love to do working on cars , not curing cancer , so lighten up ,if its all stress all the time then get a real job ... its a lot more profitable , just not as mutch fun
sorry for the rant heres some pics

The wheels that are on there in those shots are mockup wheels, but are close to the offsets that we will be running in the end, front is 9" wide with a 5.5 BS and the rear is a 12 with a 5.2 BSthis gives you roughly 5" of lip in the back and 2.5" to 3" lip in the front , final BS on the front will come in around a 1/2" to give more tire clearance when turning, hope that helped a litttle

I am hoping to match the level of details in this build.. but we will see what I achieve :)

Wow at that engine compartment. Awesome look.

So since this car is for Lokar what cool new parts are they incorporating? :unibrow: I heard they may be coming out with some trick oversized billet pedals?

Fancy pedals is my bet. Either some Tilton or Wilwood pedals. Reverse Swing style with the cylinders inside the firewall or some floor mounts.

The weatherproof pressure pad in the bumper is the trunk release

Couple of questions for you guys. Will the trunk release be something controled from a remote? also i love this idea, I wanted to delete the keyhole myself and this would be a great answer instead of having a trunk release button next to the seat or hidden in the glove box.

My dilema is i cant find this part! i searched "weatherproof pressure pad" and got something completely different. any help with directing me to the actual part name, brand or part number is greatly appreciated.

I also have tons of questions on how u deleted the bumper mounts but i dont want to be too much of a pest

Thanks

Rols,

Most modern cars have them now.

Take a wonder through a parking lot and find a shape that suits. Then order from main dealer :)

Here is one from a BMW

I think with that much power, I would prefer boosted brakes but I guess pedal box would work.

yeah, i know. my 2008 altima had it i tried searching for request/release, which is what Nissan calls it, and nothing. Also tried rubber trunk button, nothing. Tried weatherproof rubber button and nothing. thats why i was asking for the exact name or part number.

By the way did you ever solve the rear difuser/license plate issue?

Sorry for the delay on responding to you guys its been crazy the past few days whit debuting the 32 roadster at Columbus and a few photo shoots we did as well up there , but the show went awsome and the trip back went smooth so Im back in the groove again so thanks everyone

If you have ever met these guys they are some really cool guys. The talent they have shows in their work. In speaking with them, you would never guess they do what they do. They are really down to earth guys.
Just when you think you've seen it all, just check out one of their projects. Great work guys!

Wow what a huge overexaggeration of us on both accounts! ...LOL Thanks Greg your too kind

Outstanding:hail: :hail: :hail:

Speaking of amazing builds, are you still working on the 2nd gen firebird? I saw some pics on your website and just wondered if you had a build thread for it.

We got back on the second gen at the first of the year after we pulled off to do a few other things for the same customer, Ben did an awsome rendering but the customer isnt ready for me to let that out as of yet but , gonna be cool car,... should be at Columbus next year we will see

I have no idea how you heard such a thing and I will neither confirm nor deny the possibility of a new parts line dropping at SEMA along with the debut of their camaro..... wow that sounded like a politician....:unibrow:

This actual button came from a 2010 chevy Cruz out of the trunk release that is mounted in the tag light panel, should be readily available from your local chevy dealer part number 95474098. On the mounts the factory bumper mounts were re worked a little then welded to the back side of the bumper and the bumper bolts to the car just like factory with the exception of the exposed bolts on the outside, hope that helps .

Thanks

do you have any pictures of the inner fenders from the outside? As if you had the wheel off and were taking pictures from that direction? I'm curious if you still have the custom inner fenders bolt anywhere to the outer lip of the fender like the stock ones do (at least on my chevelle thats how they do it).

The wheels are the 710 from Nutek http://www.nutekwheels.com/c-6-concave-series.aspx they have a platinum center with brushed nickel hoops that we had Advanced Plating do, to match the other bits on the car we are having done as well. We are a dealer for Nutek so if anyone is ever interested just give us a call.

Thanks again for all the kind words on the design as well as the metal work , Lokar has been beyond amazing to work for and its exciting to see it getting a good reception for them. The compliments on the metal work is extremely gratifying to the guys in the shop who are putting their blood, sweat and tears into these projects , so on their behalf I thank all of you guys for the compliments. There is amazing talent all over this board and for someone to take the time to post something means a lot to some small timers from Alabama.
