This project was brought to me in the last week of April 2011.On the phone the guy tells me he purchased a 72 chevelle at the Charlotte auto fair.He ask how much it would it cost to get to racing stripes painted on the hood, roof, and trunk of his car. I didn't give him a price because there are to many variable involved when pricing even the smallest of jobs. I told him i would have to see it in person any order to give him a price. He agreed to bring the car a week from the day we spoke. O i forgot he said the car was in decent shape it had just received a paint job from the guy he bought it from.So a week later he shows up with the car on a trailer telling me he had just pick it up from the seller. As soon as I looked at it I knew there was something going on underneath the the paint. I told him i wouldn't be able to go over what was there. The paint was bubbling up in a few spots and i noticed some wrinkling in other :_paranoid . I explained that the car needed to be stripped in order to start from a sound foundation. long story short we talk about other ideas he had for the car and i told him i could do almost all except interior. he left the car at my shop over the easter hoilday and said he would make a decision in a few days on what he wanted to do(he thought i was lying about the condition of the car).http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/100.jpg

The trunk pan sucked bad the full trunk pan was of course on back order among other things. http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/209.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/211.jpg the roof was ate out around the edge of the back and across the front plus it was pretty roof so it had to go also. http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/212.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/215.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/217.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/218.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/219.jpgI hated it but i ended up using a 7 piece trunkpan and fixing the back part of the old pan but it worked http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/229.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/221.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/232.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/231.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/249.jpg

http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/251.jpgThis was a rusty car.The corners of the package tray were rusted out so i removed the bad and made some patch panels http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/269.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/272.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/273.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/274.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/275.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/276.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/278.jpgafter all was primed and seam sealed fitted the 1/4's for the last time which in all i had to have both sides on aand off atleast 30 time. I swear i got some of the worst fitting panels. http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/247.jpgAfter welding both1/4's in it was time for the rotisserie. I lapped section of the floor i replaced by crimping the old metal and laying the new peice in. all seams were fully welded on top flipped over and welded fully on the bottom.http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/288.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/286.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/284.jpgBoth side of the orignal trunk that i use were rusted out so i made some more patch panels. http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/290.jpg

First off welcome to the site Norm. Secondly, you do some nice work. I bet the owner was highly pissed to see all of that cancer on his car after paying a guy big money to do it wrong. Nonetheless, you have him on the right track. Keep us posted with lots of pics.

The back of the rocker were ate out so i just made them. Replaced the roof and shaved the drip rails.http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/332.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/338.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/phonepics986.jpg After that i put the car back on the frame. The car was wrecked bad at one point in time. once blasted i discovered that their were a few spots where the frame had some major tears. I went in and repaired them. He has all new tubular UMI performance suspensionwith QA1 coilovers in the front and 1" drop springs in the back. New moser 9" rear end,35 spline axles.6 speed tremec trans and a GM 572 OOOOOOOOyeah.:D http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/030.jpg Im waiting on the headers so i can finish making my frame bracing kit and crossmember. In the mean time i put all the sheetmetal back on the car and started correcting the terrible gaps from all the aftermarket parts. I read the widow maker forum and was very impressed by his gaps. It inspired me to make all my gaps the same. People dont understand how much time it take to make the gaps perfect. http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/004.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/003.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/005.jpg[/IMG[IMG]http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/006.jpg http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/007.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/006.jpghttp://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc418/norm1986/005.jpg
