I searched but couldn't come up with anything exact. I have listened to hundreds of videos on youtube and muffler web sites.
What I am looking for is a muffler that will not require ear plugs when highway cruising. I am going to do my best to conceal the noise with insulation, but that only goes soo far. I want a good sounding muffler, but when I am in the car with my family on road trips, I want something that will not be soo loud that we don't have to scream back and forth. Is there anything out there that sounds good but levels out at higher speeds?
I like flowmaster, magnaflows, and borla but I just cant make a decision.
What brand and series would you recommend??
I am going with 2.5" pipes with X pipe and long tube headers.
Thank You :lateral:

I'm running the same setup that you are looking at with Magnaflow mufflers. I find them not too loud cruising and they sound good when opened up.
Here's a vid of my car doing a little burnout to hear them opened up:

X2 on the Magnaflow. Not too quite and sound really clean and powerful when you get on it.
I had Flowmasters before and they were too raspy for me and a little too old school.
Borlas are my second choice, but still slightly too aggressive for me.
This is a very subjective topic...good with your decision!

Magnaflow over Flowmasters any day.
I have Borlas on my '37 Ford... they're TOO quiet...
Use an "X" pipe... and run 'em out the back... that really helps over dumping under the car.
A lot of that also has to do with gear choice... a few hundred rpm difference makes a BIG difference in noise. I like to keep 'em down under 2000 rpms at 65ish. You get up to 24/2500 at that speed and it gets way more exhaust drone.
Think about a new Corvette... they're cruising at 14/1500 rpms at 70.... and almost whisper... get on 'em with the cut outs and they sound nasty.

I have a magnaflow system on our 69 Firebird and am pretty pleased with it. It's a great quality system, I do wish it was a little louder at idle but get on it and it sounds great.

I got flows with 3in exhaust x pipe. I also have a cam and heads with my LQ9. My car is loud, sounds good idling, but when you stomp on it watch out everyone will know.

The magnaflows get louder with age. That, or I'm getting old. :unibrow:
Here's one from 2 years ago at RTTC. Dumps and a old boat anchor.

I just replaced my Flowmasters with Borla Turbos. Much nicer driving and still sounds good. No drone either, the Flowmasters were terrible.

Borla all the way. Loud obnoxious cars are annoying for old people like me.

Man I was in your shoes, just about made myself sick trying to make this decision. I ended up going with Borla Pro XS using 3" with a x-pipe then into 2.5" tail pipes. I liked it so much I did the same thing to my 57 and my brother did it to his 67 Camaro.

I was looking for the crisp tink/tink sound at idle with my 383 stroker and searched the internet and youtube for a few months before deciding on something..This shop here Kenny's Muffler has some excellent youtube videos of mufflers done on cars with great sound and you can also seach youtube for the car and mufflers, there is always something for everyone there..

I have Long tube headers into X-Pipe with FlowMaster Super 44's that dump out behind the axles...Great sound and not too loud cruising..
