HOLOHAN'S HOT ROD SHOP

This car that came in to the shop in order to take care of some new sheetmetal work on the firewall, misc under belly welding and repair, new suspension front and rear, minor paint work, along with some misc odd's and end's.
Originally a California car, it did require some attention in order to do the transplant of a 800 HP BB in the car along with a new brake system.

Looks great Dan! I have a question, why did you have to piece together the shock crossmember? Just curious maybe I missed it as to why?

12-05-2011, 04:16 AM
Good question and I knew it would be coming!
No rocket science here, but since the car came in tubbed, it was basically nothing more than I didn't feel like fighting the crossmember to get it in the right spot. So I just cut it, got the left side fit to the tub nice, mocked it up and then fit the right side cut off piece where it needed to be. The cut, or seam, is where the coil over mount is on the cross member, so after it was welded in, the coil over mount bracket acted like a bridge over the seam on the under side. The seam was tig welded solid underneath and the splice plate was plug welded over the seam on top. It's plenty strong.
Thanks for viewing, more pics coming

I was wondering when you'd get to the good stuff :D . That inset for the coils is the best execution of mounting those coils that I've seen. It turned out really nice once it was painted. Of course, that NRE beast nestled beside it doesn't hurt any either. I got a pic somewhere but I'm gonna let Dan continue keeping you guys on edge for more
Also... care to share how you radiused the firewall panel after it was installed? You got some uber compact portable bead roller or just magic?

Dan --
Don't let this sound 'critical' because it's not -- well it is -- but it's not -- it's more an observation in hindsight.
After all that absolutely wonderful metal work -- and going through all it took to hide the workings of the brake system.... why did you guys leave that ugly factory harness connector in the stock location? Actually two questions -- why use a stock fuse panel and wiring at all - this appears to be a higher dollar work of art.
Just asking is all -- 'cause your work is FANTASTIC!

Good question about the stock wiring harness location.
I did suggest to eliminate it, but the customer wanted to leave it there....
But, with the big NRE polished BB stuck in there, the focus does kind of go away from it.
But going to make a subtle cover for it as part of the finish detail fab part of the project.

:D :D I knew you had a plan.
I just redid my brother in laws '69 firewall -- and put the American Autowire Highway 22 kit in the trunk.... back with the stereo amp etc. MY SISTER couldn't stand looking at that wire connector! So I fixedededed it.
I built a rack that tilts forward -- so he can service the battery (made it so you can just drag the battery over the rack... This area is fully blocked off with an carpeted "board" so you don't see any of this when it's all put back together.
http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/ad33/gregweld/Rudys%20Camaro/IMG_1714.jpg
I used their "trunk mount extension kit" to get all the wiring back forward....

Very nice work as usual! Did you have any clearance issues with the Dana 60 cover and the panhard bar? I have a quadralink I'm putting in my Mopar project and may go a Dana if there is enough clearance. Otherwise I'll just do a 9".
Thanks in advance.

what are you using for your tinted liner on the bottom, raptor or something else?
HOLOHAN'S HOT ROD SHOP
01-01-2012, 05:49 AM
On this car I used tintable Raptor, very easy to use. Also prepped with Bulldog adhesion promoter before shooting the bedliner.
I've used the SEM on a previous project, it's a good product but not as user friendly as the Raptor.
Going to use Speedliner on the next project.

Is that D8113 by any chance? I love the look of it, it's what I am going to use on my engine compartment.
That is some nice work right there.

On this car I used tintable Raptor, very easy to use. Also prepped with Bulldog adhesion promoter before shooting the bedliner.
I've used the SEM on a previous project, it's a good product but not as user friendly as the Raptor.
Going to use Speedliner on the next project.
HNY 2012 eveyone!
That is what I use and like it alot, but would like to find something else still tintable with a little more consistent texture. Very nice work as usual. Need to update FB, was looking over your past project last night, all nice.

Project has turned out really nice Dan. Very nice finishing touches. And here i thought it was about done at the open house. Makes me want to haul mine back up there HA.
Are those brackets for the breather hoses to run the length of the valve cover? Why not swap the valve cover sides so the bungs are at the front? Just curious.

Kendall
The engine already has twin injectors per cylinder (only one active) and dual plugs on the oil pan.... Nelson provide these at no charge so I could easily add twin turbos..... But I am detuned to about 800 now so I need to see how it runs. As I said in my intro I am just chasing some Dead CAt down here in NC>
Cheers

today and heard it run. Absolutely Wicked! That is a lot of motor for that car.
Peter, I am going to make a prediction...your wife will not want to drive the car once she rides in it and you will be ordering up a set of drag radials very soon. I guess that is 2 predictions.
Should be scary fast.

Mrr1999,
The holes are done with a punch and flare die available thru Mittler Brothers. It's a common tool that comes in variety of sizes.
I will be introducing a set of punch and flares of my own soon that will be unique in shape and size.

Thanks to all of you for the compliments. It was my vision, dream, time on wrenches and desires. But it is becoming what it is by the personal commitment, vision and capabilities of Dan H, Mike Henn, Tom Nelson (add special things! to make it more fun) and Payton's thoughts, knowledge and contributions. Everyone has done excellent work and more important reflection boards for and enhancers of my vision - devil in the detail! More and the best to come! Drove it for the first time today....
