This one goes out to all the guys that built their g-machine 5 or 6 years ago, and what (if anything) they would change today?? My pro-touring mustang was built from 2002-2005 and there was not alot of aftermarket stuff then. You had to fabricate alot of parts or modify existing ones, which made builds even more expensive. There are so many amazing bolt on parts now!!! Just look at the difference between a crate Ls1 from 2001 and an lS3 from 2011! 150hp more and costs about the same!
Although I still love my car this is what I would do if it were built today:
Instead of an oldschool supercharged 302, I would go with the new boss 302 crate engine. After a proper exhaust, tune for 94oct. and a few other tricks it would be close in power, and by going with the 6 speed instead of a 5, with more aggressive gearing, it would make up the torque difference.
I have a mustang II IFS upfront, but I would go with the Griggs aluminum K member now. Allows afor a 265/35/18 tire upfront. I like my current IRS set up, but I would give the maier racing cantilever suspension the nod in the rear and forego my backseat which never gets used anyway.
Both of these would also help weight reduction (another focus), and while the current curb weight of 3208 lbs is pretty svelt, those mods, plus ditching the A/C and a few other things would pull it closer to 2900.
A 275/18 tire was considered 'monstrous' for a 1965 mustang in 2005!, but a 315 would be more appropriate now. I would stick with the baer brakes, but go with the 6s calipers. Externally, wouldn't do much except shave the drip rails and bumper bolts.
Let's hear what the 69 camaro crowd would do????
