after getting caught cheating twice last year, I guess this is how he wanted to start 2006  This penalty seems kind of light IMHO, they should also impound the car and dock driver points.

On the bright side, with the #48 car starting at the back of the field, he probably won't wreck out as many good drivers as he normally does on the super-speedways

My company is a sponser for Jimmy Johnson. I met him and Chad at Bristol last year, and I can honestly say that Chad Kanus is an A**hole. I do not deny his or Jimmy's talent, but I think he deserves it for trying to cheating the system.

I'm sure they all cheat somewhere somehow, but this was pretty blatant from what I understand.

Derek, you must not be a Smokey Yunick fan...Smokey is the reason most of the rules exist. He wasn't breaking a rule if there wasn't one to break ;)

I like reading about Smokey, and would love to build a replica of his '66 chevelle, but honestly, if I were a racing fan in the 60s, I probably wouldn't have been a fan of his. Cheating is cheating.

Now, with that said, NASCAR has changed a lot since the days when "stock cars" actually shared some parts with factory-stock cars, and it was dominated by independent owner/drivers. The sport is nothing like it was then when you ran what GM, Ford, and Mopar built.

performing service and race prep for a Vinatge Race customer who owns several Vinatge Trans Am cars. We where preparing 3 Mustangs (only one was SY's car and I couldn't put my finger on why his looked different until we actually measured the cars. His car was 3 inches wider, the windsheild was racked and for goodness sake don't lean on the sheet metal, you could dent it with your thumb. Think about what it takes just to make a car 3 inches wider without drawing attention to the fact! Smokey was just flat out one of the biggest cheaters ever, and one of the most creative automotive wizards.

Having to put Gatorade in the fuel cell in victory lane in 91 so after they pumped the cell it wouldn't show more than the 22 gallon rule!! Having an alternator for qualifying that was an electric motor to turn the water pump and fan! A alternate dry sump pump driven off the drive shaft to pull more crank case vacuum, which made more power. All for now!!LOL!!!!

If you can get away with it, more power to you... but if you get busted, NASCAR should give more than the wrist-slap they gave Knaus.

That's damn cool, Mark. What team did you work on... lets see, some of the Cup winners in '91 were Earnhardt, Irvan, Rudd, Wallace, Gant (I was at Martinsville in 91 for his 4th win in a row  ), Kulwicki, Allison...

Or later on known as Morgan-Manure!! LOL!!! Greed and stupidity eventually got the best of the owner who thought he was the reason for the success!! Ernie was one great talent!! He always remembers me when we meet. His dad is s super nice guy and his brother in law run Irvan-Smith in Concord NC which is a great supplier of fab tools!! It's a 100% people game!! Find a combo that works, you'd better keep it together!! Once Ernie left, Sterling came on board and WOW!! Daytona win#2!! Some other great success as well. Back to back Daytona's have only been done 3 times. Cale, Richard, and Sterling. Glover leaving the team broke the camels back. 1 other win at Martinsville in 98 with Bobby Hamilition was the last win!! The owner said when Glover left, No one monkey is going to make or break this show!!LOL!! IT DID!! Kinda like going to war with Custer leading you into battle, you know what the outcome is going to be. Lot's of other drivers and crew chief's have came and went. Same old song and dance, know body is going to tell me how to run this team. After KODAK left and a divorce I decided to change careers for a while! Still have lot's of standing offers to move to NC! Kinda burned out after 18 years of cup stuff, other than working for Johnny Miller in the Trans-Am series in 2000. Spent a lot of late nights working with him before then! That's enough for now I guess!!

Tig-Man,

Cool to hear the positive stuff about Ernie. I watched him race sprint cars a few times at Baylands and San Jose as a kid. He never had the nicest stuff but always drove the wheels off what he had.

Is it just me or is Tony Stewart a complete punk? He's starting to fill the void that Dale Sr. left when he died... He's got the talent, now he's working on the intimidation.

It's nice to see someone finally step up and be the bad-ass that NASCAR needs to stay interesting.

That's nothing. You should have followed him back in '95 when he won the USAC triple crown. He was NOT going to be denied.

NASCAR is a business NOT a sport

I have friends that ran NASCAR and Grand American in the 60's, they won't even watch it on TV

Tony Stewart should have been penalized more than going to the longest line for running Kenseth into the grass. Good Thing Tony is worried about somebody being killed. He almost did it himself.

Damn True
02-20-2006, 12:17 PM
That's what I'm sayin.

The original incident between Stewart and Kenseth happend on lap 20. Of course Kenseth claims it was unintentional and Stewart claims it was intentional, in any case there was no actual contact.

If something had actually happened wouldn't the adult thing, the VETERAN thing to have been to send the word up to NASCAR and let them deal with it?

Instead, Stewart retaliated, 150 laps later mind you, by blatantly punting Kenseth into the grass on the tri-oval (at nearly 190mph).

A punk-a$$ thing to do IMO.

As for the comparision to Dale Sr.......I have never been a #3 fan, but Stewart couldn't hold Earnhardts jock.
Earnhardt may have used the "chrome horn" quite often to bump another car, and he may have intentionally placed his car next to another in such a way as to make another driver loose, but it was always for position.
He VERY rarely wrecked another driver, and when he did invariably he would apologize for doing so rather than saying "he deserved it" or some other childish payback BS.

I found the whole thine particularly odd in light of Stewarts comments earlier in the week about "aggresive" driving etc. Apparently he thinks that standard applies to everyone BUT him.

I have a feeling that once post race inspection is over, there won't be a single piece that has not been unbolted from the chassis just to make SURE they did not miss anything Knauss might have done they did not catch the first time.

Yeah...Dale Sr. wrecked alot of cars..some for wins and some for grins. I liked Dale Sr personality but didnt like his driving style. In regards to Stewart I like niether his driving or his pesonality. I think he went back to the ol' Tony from a few years ago. I nominate Tony as the "new" Kurt Busch not new Dale Sr. :eek:Stewart is a bully..plain and simple.

I remember Dale saying "I get along with almost all of the drivers...except for Jeff Bodine, I'd like to whip that Yankee's ass" That statement solidified my like for Dale permanently.

I miss Dale, anybody can dog him if they wish, the sport isn't the same without him.

Amen Brother. Kyle and Kurt both are couple of punks. Every sport has the punk, the pretty boy, and the bad boy. I would rather see someone act on their aggression (to a certain point) rather than go on TV and bitch about it.

Here's a thought....From now on, if you have a conflict during the race, do not act upon it during the race. NASCAR needs to set up a wrestling ring and let them settle it like men after the race. You can talk, or you can whip their ass.

I'm pretty sure Stewart could kick Johnson's ass if it came down to it. Ryan Newman is the dude I'd stay clear of if they incorporated a post-race ass-kicking rule. He's a big dude.
