Hello Lateral G Forum Members!
Hope you’re having a great Thanksgiving weekend and have been working on your projects. Many of you by now have heard of Formula 43 wheels and that Mark Stielow's Red Devil Camaro has been using the RAD14 18" front and 19" rear wheels this year at many Pro-Touring events, including the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge.
I'm very happy to report after a full season of abuse from Mark and a screaming 800hp LS motor, the RAD14 Formula 43 wheels have performed well above our expectations and are ready for another season!
We’ve been working hard for nearly two years developing the RAD series of wheels in 18" and 19" sizes. We currently have four designs readily available and will be introducing our latest design, the RAD5 (5-spoke) at the PRI show in Orlando on Dec. 1st.
So, what’s the deal with Formula 43? Formula 43 is a specific German "Spin-Form" method for manufacturing the barrels or rim-halves for 2 and 3-piece wheels. We've developed the latest in rim halve technology using decades of experience working with some of the largest wheel manufacturers in the world.
-Hidden hardware using our new exclusive F43 bolts designed specifically for the RAD series of wheels.
-Rotary forged center sections for a circular grain structure for maximum stiffness and long service life.
-Variable pad depths to fine tune individual wheel fitments and brake clearance needs.
-Over 500 center forgings in stock ready for machining and 1200 modular rims halves in stock for quick build times. 3-weeks plus shipping.
-Proudly made in Livonia, Michigan USA! No broker or duty fees for shipping in the US. We can also ship directly to you for International shipments.
-Finish options in powder coating, anodizing, brushed and full polished available.
Pricing starts at $845.00 per wheel for our 18" Club Sport Wheels.
Where do you purchase Formula 43 Wheels? We're proud to have aligned ourselves with Detroit Speed & Engineering for exclusively selling, distributing and using Formula 43 wheels for all Pro-Touring applications. Look for Kyle's 1970 and Stacy's 1969 Camaro to have some new RAD 18" wheels for 2012.
Detroit Speed and their expertise are a great advantage to you in building, tuning or updating your G-Machine. Many of you have or will purchase items from DSE, so ask the experts what's the best wheel fitment for your ride. This takes a lot of guess work out of this sometimes difficult process. You're also welcome, to contact Formula 43 directly with any questions on our wheels, fitment and of course order updates.
I look forward to hearing from everyone in this community!

Your build process looks state of the art. Are you planning to disclose the weight of each wheel? I've always liked the techni polish Fikse creates. Do you have any plans to add finishes?

Yes, we've been working on a full polished center and powder coating finish options. I'll have some photos in a couple of weeks.
Wheel weights are no problem, 10X18 and 12X18 for a Pro-Touring, DSE mini tub, and big big brakes? I'll mock up the wheel tomorrow and post the weights.
We've invested quite a bit of time and thought into our manufacturing process. We just added a vibrating polishing system. This can polish up to a 24" wheel. This can also polish the center section and the great advantage is that it will polish the entire piece, front, back sides, lug pockets, etc.
Formula 43 is one of the very few wheel companies to manufacture it's modular rim halves in house. This is a very unique process of metal forming, that takes years to master the programming. Our equipment, has the ability the record and playback any live changes you made during the CNC process. If you like the changes you made than this is your new program and the machine will repeat the process over and over again.
Just ask Stielow, he's been to our shop many times and it's an amazing process to see live!

I really like working with these guys. They are very nice and knowable. I like to swing by the shop and watch them make the wheels. I went down when they were making my centers. I'm mesmerized by shinny objects and big machining centers cranking out parts.

Ron, all of the RAD series of wheels feature the hidden hardware. We've sent the first RAD5 wheels to Orlando for the Performance Racing Industry show this week. I'll get some pics and post later this week when I get down there.
Thanks for your interest!

I used to run a set of Fikse FM10s and enjoyed them or felt I got my money's worth.
If you talk to some of the motorsport guys (guys who get paid to do this sorta racing thing), they may have some things to share as to why the newer products just may be better than others as it's all in the details.
On a related note, don't we have to pay duty fees for all things imported from Canada? I just haven't gotten a quote from either company and likely won't for a while, but who knows. I'm hoping we have more options out there so will keep an eye out for F43.
The FM/10 was a great classic wheel. Originally developed and began production in 1994. One of the drawbacks is the FM/10 uses 20 bolts or fasteners. We use (30) on all of our wheels and feel (30) is better suited for heavier applications such as G-Machines and newer sports cars.
What's so unique to Formula 43 is that we manufacture our own rim halves or barrels in house. Most modular wheel companies purchase these from a couple of different suppliers here in the US or out of the country. You might have noticed that most other companies talk about the new features they created on the center section, but never any technical updates or changes to the rim halves or barrels.
We'll have a video out in the next couple of weeks that will give you better understanding on how the barrels are made and our manufacturing process.
Feel free to contact myself or Detroit Speed for fitment questions and pricing.

I'm very happy with the RAD14 wheels on my Firebird. Travis and Ralph at Formula 43 are great guys. I really appreciate their attention to detail and drive for a quality product. I was at their shop and took a few pics of my wheel centers being machined. Watching the inner and outer rim sections being cold formed from flat stock was amazing!
Travis,
Beautiful wheels! I'm really diggin those rad 5 wheels.
Why do you not have a vendor on the west coast? I bet driverz Inc would represent your brand well. Just a thought.

Thanks for your nice comment. We are really excited about our new RAD5 as well. Personally I think it's the coolest most modern looking 5-spoke wheel I've seen. The addition of the sculpting of the spokes not only helps reduce weight, but gives it more visual appeal and dimension as well.
I should have better high res. pics to post next week. Just received our first order for the RAD5 18" wheels for a 1969 Camaro today.
We've authorized DSE for drop shipping from our factory here in Livonia, MI. Shipping via UPS to the west coast is 4-5 business days. We can also mount and balance tires here as well.
Detroit Speed & Engineering:
Just a little history w/ myself and DSE. I formerly worked for Fikse Wheels from 2002 until late 2006. While working at Fikse in Kent, WA., I was responsible for sales and customer service. In 2002 Stielow's Mule car was finished and the Pro-Touring market exploded! Some said it was a fad and would go away, well 9 years later it's clearly bigger than ever and still growing!
While DSE was developing all the great items they offer, I worked closely with Kyle and Stacy to develop the different wheel/tire packages for the various Pro-Touring applications. Both Kyle & Stacy and everyone at DSE are the most professional people/business to deal with. Their engineering background is a big plus, as you know, they're not throwing darts at a wall to figure out what works and your car isn't going to be the the test monkey. At Formula 43 we have a similar approach to our wheels. We will not launch a product until we fully have tested it and feel it's ready for our customers to use.
The technical knowledge DSE has with Pro-Touring applications is a great resource. They know what works and what doesn't. Getting the wrong recommendation is very costly and time consuming. They have great packages in which they can include the wheels with tires ready to bolt on. This really takes out a lot of guess work and factoring in all of the modifications you've done or are going to do when building your G-Machine.
I hope this gives everyone a little more background about myself, Formula 43 and why we've partnered with DSE to exclusively sell our wheels for the Pro-Touring market. If you're ever in the Livonia, MI area, feel free to stop by and say hello. Our neighbors are Roush and Ford Racing!

Great product, great company, and great people:thumbsup: I look forward to getting a set in the future and supporting a local company in the process.
Thanks for making the decision easy.
Do you offer some lightening options such as titanium hardware?

Do you offer some lightening options such as titanium hardware?
We use a steel bolt. The weight reduction for using a Titanium bolt is minimal and really doesn't justify the extreme additonal cost for Titanium bolts.
The RAD series of wheels use 30 bolts or fasteners, many of our competitors use 40 and larger bolts.

The wheels weights for the RAD14 Stielow fitment are as follows:
Front: 10.0X18 22.0lbs
Rear: 12.0X19 24.0lbs
Wheel weights vary depending on style, caliper clearance needed and width.
Thanks!
What are the weights for the RADS5 in 18x10ft, 18x13r?

What are the weights for the RADS5 in 18x10ft, 18x13r?
All of the RAD series of wheels are very close in wheel weight. The RAD S5 with additional spoke sculpting is:
Front = 21.5lbs per wheel 10.0X18
Rear = 23.0lbs per wheel 12.0X18
These weights can vary depening on how much pad depth you need for caliper clearance on the front and rear wheels.

Not at this time. The RAD series features the bolts on the backside.
We thought about offering this in the future, but it really doesn't give you any technical advantage since we would need to add nuts on the backside which will add a little weight and makes cleaning a little more difficult with the bolts on the front.
On some designs I do like an exposed bolt on the front as it gives you the classic three piece wheel look.
