1981 trans am .Started off almost 4 years ago as a 1981 firebird. It has taken a while ,but it is almost finished. The engine is from turn key and it is their supercharged ls2 which is 680hp/680ft lbs. the transmission was built locally and is a 4l60e with a tci controller, not sure what they did to it but it has a lifetime warranty which im sure will be tested. It sits on an art morrison chassis with wilwood brakes , the chassis route was chosen for its decent price and it came with the rear end, brakes, suspension, steering, and for ground clearance.the front and rear bumpers are from yearone along with the side spats. they are all fiberglass which prevents sagging and they make it easier to modify and the side spats are widened at year one for looks and to do a better job covering the new wheels.the front glass is flus mounted and the rear window channel was raised and a custom piece of glass was bent.I really liked what was done by year one on their bandit and this car was based on what they did. the front bumper was modified for the piaa fog lights and also the one piece 90s chevrolet truck headlights.Bill at radical had a lot of nice ideas that went into the car.It would take some time to remember all the details, but at almost every turn one mod would start a snowball of other things that needed to be changed in order to function
Rather than bore everyone with every modification and my terrible writing style/grammar /spelling etc, i will let the pictures do the talking.I hope the weather clears up soon for its first road test:D,i remember looking at a year one advertisement in a magazine in the fall of 2007 and never imagined i would own anything like that. Some neat stuff includes a fully functional air intake, the k&n filter sits in a tray below the scoop. electric emergency brake(linear actuator).Fabricated rad support. engine set back well into firewall area to clear the rack and pinion and keep the engine sitting low. floors and trunk pan and firewall fabricated and wiper motor relocated to kick panel area.fabricated fuel cell 20+ gallon capacity.led tail lights.dash and console built from scratch , porsche "silver knit" carpet.all decals buried under the clear coat.door panels made from scratch along with year one machine turned inserts. nos fisher t tops.

Sweet ride and congrats! :hail: I dig the lights, too. I've been following the updates over on PT. Is this the same shop that did Raj's car? Also, is the birdcage in front custom fabricated or a factory piece? Sorry for my ignorance, but I've never torn down a second gen bird.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.yes ron the rad support is fabricated. I tried to find a nos one or something clean but had no luck,so the fab guy said why dont i just make it? Its a shame its hidden it was all tig welded and looks neat, the rad / ac condensor/intercooler heat exchanger and transmission cooler are all mounted to it as well.

I'd drag my balls through a mile of broken glass,? then swim the entire length of the amazon river with an alligator
attached to each foot with a tank full of ellen degeneres' farts just to catch a glimpse of this in real life.

But I find that the wheels are too deep inside the wheelarches....they should move out to be more agressive.....:unibrow:

You know whats funny,i feel the same way. I dont mind the front but i want to space out the rears. It was set up this way to avoid rubbing issues if i drove the car hard in corners but the suspensions pretty stiff so i might space the rears out a half inch or more

The car is stunning and subject to how the suspension has been set I'd agree you can come out further....
If the rear wheel lips (and out wheel well) have been clearances you shouldn't have an issue... I run my set up further out,,, and up front we do the same thing with clearance work tot he fenders and I'm running a 295 with ""lots of room"" for more tire. I hope to be at SEMA with a little surprise 73TA that will be running (at least on the track) a set of 335's on a DSE sub-frame that has had a couple of minor alterations for clearance.

I didn't want to say anything simply because we all know about opinions but moving the rims out will greatly improve the looks. Even if you have to raise the car a touch, I would move the rims out a bit. Muffin top is not a good look, lol. Great car regardless though.

Some updates. The car would not rev over 2000. After getting nowhere with turnkey,i will never buy from them or recomend them to anyone, i decided to ditch the mefi set up. After a lot of pondering and tons of help from mike norris i ended up getting the holley hp efi. Thanks to mike and the members here who steered me his way:thumbsup: . But thats where the fun starts. Although the wiring in my car under the hood and trunk are all done properly ,braided sleeves/heatshrink ,routed nearly perfect i was amazed to find this mess under the dash and console. Numerous butt connectors, some runs would have 4/5 butt connectors in a row. I cant stand clutter so i am redoing the whole mess. S far cutting out the junk and making a chart of what wires going where, started putting it back together today. I was debating to post the pictures or not, because i didnt want people to think the whole cars crap but its actually funny how bad the wiring was done. I have extreme ocd with wiring so it might take me a few weekends but ill post the after pics soon.
Enjoy the fail!

Yeah he wired the visible stuff hence the perfection. And then he left and 4 random guys went to work. Im saving all the splices and electrical tape and dropping them off to the shop once im all done.

You nailed it with the stance but agree with you about the back spacing. I thought I saw AC controls and no vents. Are they hidden or am I blind? Also I look at the front and keep wondering how it would look if the honeycomb went all the way to the end over the headlights like a phantom. Badass freaking ride man
transam
06-10-2013, 09:38 PM
Thanks! The vents are there. Each side of the guage pod and defroster ones on the top side. They are powdercoated black and have honeycomb designs on the inside. I played with spacing the rears out but its going to need to be raised. In hindsight i should have had the rear quarter fender lips cut and welded so i could keep it low and space the wheels out that or raise it up more

Great looking car. How does the ikey system work? Are you happy with it?

It uses a credit card sized keyfob with rfid technology. It has a proximity sensor so whenever you approach the car it unlocks. And once inside you can select acc or ignition on the push start button. A nice feature is you can select a few oem buttons ie a Nissan gtr,s2000, Lexus etc. When you walk away from the car the doors lock and it arms the system. It also comes with two emergency fobs that do not use battery's. You place them over the sensor , usually installed at the base of your windshield, and it unlocks the car and let's you start it. It's a nice system. You can also have a trunk unlock and a remote start option as well.

Thank you,it was 34 degrees yesterday and that didn't stop me from taking it out, lol.
It was 480 rwhp i believe. But between the converter not locking up and a low reading dyno i would guess it's close to the 680 at the flywheel that turnkey rates it at. For reference my Camaro which made 590 rwhp on the same dyno trapped 138 mph on street tires on a 1/4 mile pass at the strip. It currently makes 10psi but I'm going to get a different pulley and up it to 12-14.
