I found a good deal on a Super T 10 and everything to install it into my car
The trans is supposed to be a 1979 Corvette Borg warner super T 10. and that will have the ratio of 2.64-to-1, 2.1-to-1, 1.6-to-1 and 1.00-to-1 OR 2.88-to-1, 1.74-to-1, 1.33-to-1 and 1.00-to-1
What is the best ratio for all around driving on streets and road course suchs as WillowSprings and ButtonWillow? I know things very, Just want to see if this trans is close or even If this set up will be good for what I want
I haven't picked a rearend ratio yet any help with both would be great Thanks
Super T-10 transmission had varying gear ratios. From 1974 until 1977, the transmission ratio was 2.43-to-1 for first gear, 1.61-to-1 for second gear, 1.23-to-1 for third gear and 1.00-to-1 for fourth gear. Some transmissions used similar gear ratios of 2.43-to-1, 1.76-to-1, 1.47-to-1 and 1.00-to-1.
Borg-Warner continued to increase the gear ratio of the transmission throughout its production life. From 1977 until 1979, the transmission used gear ratios of 2.64-to-1, 2.1-to-1, 1.6-to-1 and 1.00-to-1.
During this time, Borg-Warner also released a transmission with ratios of 2.64-to-1, 1.75-to-1, 1.33-to-1 and 1.00-to-1.
From 1979 until 1981, the transmission was modified to use 2.88-to-1, 1.74-to-1, 1.33-to-1 and 1.00-to-1 gear ratios.
Finally, from 1980 until 1982, the transmission was available with gear ratios of 3.44-to-1, 2.28-to-1, 1.46-to-1 and 1.00-to-1.

IMO this is the best road course "close ratio" gear setup of all that you mentioned.

have you considered an M-21? Good road course gears splits.

Yes I have, but the Muncies are $$$. IMOHO for the same price I might as well get a tremec 600 or a T56
Like I stated I can get a Borg Warner Super T10. with a 3 1/2 drive shaft, yoke, bell housing, clutch, pressure plate, Hurst comp shifter, flywheel etc all out of a 67 Camaro for under a grand.
I found out it's the 3.44-to-1, 2.28-to-1, 1.46-to-1 and 1.00-to-1. ratio, which isn't bad for the street as I can put a 3.23 or 3.42 or even a 3.08 rear gear and it will be nicer on the highway This car will see more street time then track time for now.

These are the only T-10 ratios I am aware of.

Buy the Borg-Warner and spend money twice. Mark my words. I ran a stock M-21 in time trials and beat the hell out of that thing and if I would have changed oil after every track day I would still have it today.
As far as street/track gearing 3:42's will do well.
I'm currently running a Spec-25 M-22 supposively good for 800 ft/pds torque accoording to the builder but if you dont have $2700 for a tranny look for a used M-21/22 and change oil religiously and it will take care of you.

JD I am not doubting you and i believe you're looking at the "Richmond built" S-T10 ratios.
These are the ratios i found in a book and on the net for the OEM T10's from the 60s- 80's.
B-W Super T-10 2.64 1.61 1.23 1.00
B-W Super T-10 2.64 1.75 1.33 1.00
B-W Super T-10 2.88 1.74 1.33 1.00
B-W Super T-10 3.44 2.28 1.46 1.00
B-W Super T-10 2.23 1.77 1.35 1.00
B-W Super T-10 2.43 1.61 1.23 1.00
B-W Super T-10 2.43 1.76 1.47 1.00
B-W Super T-10 2.64 2.10 1.60 1.00
B-W Super T-10 2.64 2.10 1.46 1.00
Not to mention everyone has a different idea on how to tell what ratios you have. Gotta love the info highway..I should of stuck with a Powerglide LOL

From what I have read some say they break and some say they have beat the snot out of them and they don't break. And yes I am going with a 3.42 rear gear.

I currently have an M-21, M-22 and the T-10. I ran all of them on the street and strip at one time or the other over the past 40 years in different cars. I have rebuilt each of them and I can tell you that there is little significant difference between them. In fact, many parts are interchangeable. The T-10 was slick shifted by removing evey other slider dog and installing non-syncronized sliders and drag raced for 10 years with not so much as a missed shift. I could put any of the three in "Dust Off" but my shifter only fits the T-10.

I really cant Knock a T-10 because I've never run one, but I had a stock M-21 that I beat the hell out of for years. I'm talking keep your foot in it and slam second with the tires smokin' over and over and over again. Those were in my street thrashing days. I took that same tranny and road raced with it for another 3 years before I grenaded it downshifting into third at Infineon right after turn 1 to head up the hill. And that was probably because I went to long without changing the oil.

We use to buy em all day long for $200-$250 too. HELL a 12 bolt posi was $100!! I had a S-T10 in my 79 Camaro with a 420 Hp Sbc and 4.11's and it was all good. For now I just want to go have fun and cruz............... Suspension first, later I'll get intense with the eng & drive train!!!
Thanks for your input

It's funny you mention that...........I took the white Camaro all over the place today. She's a fun little cruzer and that pearl white paint gets alot of attention. It's been a long time since I have had a clean '69 just to cruz in.
Almost thinking about keeping her, lol
