Good race, I was watching it this morning but I had to go online to finish the last few laps because my dvr missed it. I found it interesting that when one of the cars (forgot who) backed it into the tire wall, the fuel cell burst and caught fire. Good thing the track guys got it out quickly and the driver was ok.

Australian Super Car series Kicks butt!! I love watching those guys!! If you get a chance, watch their F1 series racing where the production car Ferrari's, Lambo's, Vette's, Porches, Jaguar's, ets go head to head. Very exciting racing!!

I have a hard time watching racing start to finish, let alone a race that is that long. That said, I watched the whole race! I love the V8 Supercars, as another stated, why can't NASCAR do something like that? Every body is the same in NASCAR now, so it has lost much of its appeal to me - I haven't been to a circle track race in around 7-8 yrs now, and I used go all the time and even crewed for some SoCal teams.

But I literally went from prone to straight up on the edge of the cushion on the couch for the last few laps! In fact, watching it again there, I found myself amping up... and I know how it all turns out :D And as I recall, a few laps before those in the vid, the Vodofone car took second place rocketing down Conrod hill and into the dogleg flat out, inside of the other guy, both cars bouncing and bottoming out, all around 180 mph. That was when I jumped to an upright position. Seriously, the best racing I have watched in a long time as well. Being an avid road courser, I basically stare in astonishment of how well those cars work and the size of huevos the drivers have.

And Tander earned first - his ability to keep focused forward but also just keep shutting the door on Lowndes is just not mortal.

I challenge others to watch the video the first time just for the "racing" aspect. Then watch it again, and this time just watch the cars "work". I find myself watching that more than anything else when I watch racing. I watch Baja footage just to watch the suspensions articulate :cool:

I can say that for hours on end I just kept thinking to myself, "Why isn't there a track like that where I can run?!" I can't imagine what it would be like to be able to tear up and down serious elevation change on a 4 mile course!

I just can't wait until these Aussie's come over here in 2013.I will be there from opening day until they chase me away.There a few web site's that have some photo's of these car's during the build process.WOW!! some awesome work.The race sat. night was a nail biter right up until the very last 100 ft. of the race track.I dvr'd it and will be watching it over and over.:thumbsup: :thumbsup:

That course is a public road all year round. I raced karts with Tander a great driver and back then a good young bloke, I watched him from juniors onwards, he went onto race in Formula Ford then the V8s.

I love the V8 Supercar series! I'm almost finished watching the endurance race before Bathurst. I haven't started the Bathurst yet. A company I work with does the transmissions for all these cars.

Just general talk but at 4 mins in or so they show their rear "axle" assembly. I have to admit I laugh when guys build all of these lat-G cars and put those super reinforced 9" rear ends in them that baja trucks use. SO much unsprung weight. Then look at how awesome the concept is in these cars (assuming you want to stay with a straight axle setup in the rear v. IRS). If they could be IRS I suspect they would do that, I haven't studied rules for them at all, but I assume they are forced to run a straight rearend and basically they have a very light-weight but super rigid rearend concept.

If I ever build a car with a straight rear axle I would do that design, and also build a little negative camber in as well :unibrow:

what is amazing is that is a Champion NASCAR driver - I saw it while watching the race and I think ole D-dubya plays it up a little for the camera as he has always be a sucker to goofaw for the cam, but when he says things like that is the most amazing ride he has ever been on, I think that says a lot.*

I eluded before that I used to work with a couple teams of SouthWest Tour guys (would be like Late Models now) and crew-chiefed for one, and I can say that once I got more involved with road racing, that "4 turns, all left" thing got old really quickly. I had already experienced running Willow Springs in an all original 70 Boss 302 T/A car (Gary Matthew's 78 car back in the mid-90s after my friend restored it) and was eternally bitten by the road track bug, but still enjoyed working around the roundy-round cars, but when it all boils down and you are in the car, road racing is the only way to go IMHO.

* funny, I wrote that, then actually went back and watched the whole vid to see they went to commentary and the other guy says essentially the same thing - this guy is a champion, race winner and he basically sounded like a scared child in the passenger seat :D

yeah, I remember sitting on the edge of my seat for that one too! What is awesome is about 1:50 in when both cars just absolutely fly around the GT into the corner - shows just how superior both cars/drivers were. Certainly Mag was screwed big time - I can count no less than 4 times he not just could have spun the Porsche, and SHOULD have spun him, and didn't out or driver respect. He should have bumped and run 3 laps prior in reality. When Bergmeister smashed him down like that at the end, he should have been suspended and 1st awarded to the clearly superior car and driver (when he passed low he was leaving the Porsche behind him quickly until he was forced to relinquish position). F1 for instance will not allow that kind of aggressive defense to hold a position.

Agreed Burgmister should have had his ASS handed to him on multiple occasions in that race by any less of a gentleman racer. Absolute BS sportsmanship there and some very dangerous posturing by Burgmister,,, should have been suspended I agree.

V8 Supercars is hands-down the best racing out there. In my opinion, NASCAR's U.S. growth has peaked and is looking to expand it's worldwide market. Why else would they send DW and crew over there and start live flag-to-flag coverage on SPEED? And the 'guest' drivers at Surfer's Paradise...what's better than Boris Said and a bunch of IndyCar/F1/ALMS heroes in 'real' sedans on a street circuit? And that finish at Bathurst reminds me of the early days of televised NASCAR coverage at Daytona. I can't wait for the Austin, TX race and I truly hope that this series triggers a re-birth in U.S. road racing popularity.

I heard that!! Been a big NASCAR fan for years but got bored. We need more Road course racing from those guys!!
