Hey Guys,

My car is back in my friends fabrication/restoration shop to finish up the body work. Last night I brought him over the fenders, rad support and hood so he can mock everything up and start body working the panels.

When I brought the original flat hood in, both my friend and his other buddy questioned if I was really going to use the flat hood on the car. Originally I had planned on a 2" cowl hood, but thought I'd just go flat.

Either way I like the look, but what do you guys think?? Preferences?? Ideas??

The more badass the engine/engine bay, the flatter the hood... ;)

I have a cowl on my 66 that came with it,, new goodmark, Don't know the hrs., I have put in it to make it fit,,I wanted to trade for a stock hood before I butchered it, couldn't find a swap .,,so I went with it,, I'mabout tired of cowl, makes me sick to see one on a Ford or even a Chevy truck,,, Go clean /Go Stock !!

Cowl looks meaner. The essence of hot rodding is to modify. Modify! Why hide the fact your not normal?

I put a 2in cowl on my old 70 but I must say the flat hood make me wonder what is under the hood, :unibrow: but either way it will look great. its like picking between two of your kids haha

Simple solution for ya!

Keep the flat hood and make err... a.....................woosh....

Oh.... you will probably have to cut a hole in the hood out to show off the Blower bling:unibrow:

Can't go wrong either way, but I would go flat!

I voted 2" cowl but I might be biased :D . However, after seeing Billy's Nova with a flat hood I might would go that route if I was running an LS and/or didn't care about the little extra clearance the cowl gives you. Just have to decide the look you are going for. Slammed, big wheels, full bore PT treatment the flat hood is really clean looking.

i'm loving the feedback guys! all aspects are def. a big help in deciding, I'm leaning towards the flat hood, it is def. clean looking and it does make people wonder whats under there

the next big question is what rims will look best on the Nova....

I like the cowl hood, on a car that had that option from the factory like a first gen Camaro or 70 Chevelle. The only exception is Brian Hobaugh's 73 Camaro; maybe because the scoop is flat black or because of the monster flares, but it looks great to me on that car.

I would either run an SS hood or flat hood on the Nova, just looks right to me.

The stock Nova front end is just so plain.

I run a 2" Goodmark Cowl hood and a Spoilers by Randy front spoiler on my 71.

Both were reatively low cost and make a huge difference!!
These both look like factory parts IMO as well.

Good luck.

Please post a pic of the car with the spoiler.

I have a cowl hood on my car, and i would like to get a stock hood for it.

I say keep the stock hood, cut yourself some downward sloped, reversed vents, then put some mesh behind them....bam....you have yourself a sick looking custom/stock hood! check out Matts (I think) ride in the most recent issue of camaro performers!

I went with the stock hood....but I wanted more of a sleeper look.

But, I agree with the above - Blakes' cowl is just plain bad-ass looking.

You cant have the sleeper look with Fiske wheels!!!!

Your car looks killer.

Do you have a build thread anywhere?

Randy: Thanks for the kind words.

Cris at JCG Restorations built my car - and deserves all of the credit. He has a "JCG Customer Car Projects" type thread on here which has most of the details.

My Nova is definitely on the milder, mostly "bolt-on stuff" side of things. But I LOVE IT.

I think that is all that really matters

I've never been a big fan of cowl hoods unless you're running equipment underneath that requires the extra clearance. I guess it's an issue of function over form for me.

I saw an '04 Mustang with an 8" cowl hood. Looked mean. When he opened the hood and I see a V6.......well....you know the rest!

I also like that the flat hood gives the car a more sleek almost sectioned look versus a cowl hood.

A cowl hood looks good on a dump truck, golf cart, or even a tractor. Sounds like you've made your decision and the Nova still looks wicked, thumbs up dude.
