Opinions needed, what's it worth

This Camaro started life as a SS/RS 396. One of my friends owned it in the 70's and my best friend bought it in the mid 80's.. it was parked and sat for a few years. Then In mid 90's I myself stripped this car to the bone, the body was media blasted in my shop, then sent to a race fabricator for roll cage ,sheet metal, dry sump enclosure, mini tubed, custom metal work for gauges, removable mar guard lexan windows and more.

And If I remember correctly, NO body panels, floors or fenders were replaced all OEM no rust. I also know he has most of the OEM nuts bolts panels, RS complete grill, head lights, inner fender wells etc..

.It has all Global West category 5 suspension and brakes.. Currie 9" with 31 or 33 spline floater axles, Detroit locker, Jericho road race 4spd, race clutch, ceramic coated oval exhaust, 20 gallon fuel cell, Wilwood brakes. ALL NEW

The eng is a de tuned 377 cu in ex Spears NASCAR Craftsmen truck eng with new internals, Pontiac heads, dry sump, deep pulleys, custom headers, dynoed @ 625 Hp and I believe 500+ Tq (has dyno time only and one quick 10 min drive on the street ) . Engine is streetable...Car is on NON op and has a title.

The car was all together and running,, then taken apart for paint by a well known custom Swedish painter in Anaheim Ca at the cost of $6,000. The whole drive train,....all suspension,.... Dunlap 315 and 275 tires.... again, It's all brand new.

5-6 years ago this car was put in an enclosed trailer and has been sitting in there until yesterday when we pulled it out..for the first time.

My friend and I had a falling out and lost contact in 1997, I made a phone call 3 days ago and inquired about this Camaro, to maybe buy it (yes as of this week we are now friends again)


MY question is......What's a ball park figure on what this car could sell for in today's market?? Remember everything is there to get it running with about 60-70 man hours. I am guessing some of the stuff maybe "out dated" but 90% all new parts..This car was built to be a "streetfigher" to go get an ice cream or to race or do track days ..

There are custom metal "oem looking" panels to hold tack speedo and water, oil gauges and switch panel etc in dash

Hey Jerry - sounds like a nice car w a lot of potential. Not too much of a project to get it roadworthy? $45k sounds high to me though. Offer still stands if you want to go check it together? We can put pencil to paper to see what it's got and what it'll need.

It seems like a nice projekt, I think the price is to high in todays marked.
If all it takes to get it running is 60 - 70 hours, go for it. from my point of view there will be more potentiel buyers, to a running car.

$45 seems REAL high.... If I was looking to buy it I'd be at 25K or maybe even less....

At the end of the day, it's a race car and that will hurt the value considerably. I'm diggin it, myself.:thumbsup:

I'd get a rough idea of what it would cost to duplicate and make an adjustment from that number that makes you happy with the deal.

Oh man I love this car. I agree I think the price is a bit high but I'd venture to say if it's only 60-70 hrs left as you estimate, you should finish it yourself and then put it up for sale. A car that close to finished is better off finished than trying to sell as a "project" car IMO.

P.S. you think that radiator/fan setup is gonna cool that thing on the street? I'm not so sure...

Thank you all for your opinions. As far as the "$45k"... let me clarify, I was only asking if it was worth that and I thank you guys for your honesty!!

As far as the hours to put it back together, I guessed at that too. And like I stated the car was totaly together and running, then pulled apart to get painted and now the parts need to be put back on. And yes I would finish it myself

HAHA Flash... the first thing I said to myself was 'THAT FAN HAS TO GO" lol.. The radiator is big though with a built in oil cooler

He has everything to finish this car stored in boxes, with the exception of the wiring for the head lights, tail lights and blinkers

I am NOT set on buying this Camaro, I sold my race car and I am shopping for a car in the 20-25k range .

Hi Jerry, I know you've been following my build on the pearl white '69 I'm building and said you were interested but wasn't sure on how serious you were about actually making a purchase. I have about 5 or 6 guys that have been pm'ing me about making a purchase and are waiting for me to complete it.

If there is one thing that I have learned in the process of building my white '69 Camaro is that you cant get your man hours back when making a sale in todays economy.

I dont want to disclose what I'm into my car for but at $28,000 I'm pretty sure I have what your looking for. In all honesty in todays market with all I have into it I should get $30k for it. Since you are a builder yourself we may be able to negotiate on a few things. For one, I still need to get the trunk pan welded in since the previous owner had a fuel cell in the trunk and cut out for the sump and I know you mentioned something about mini tubbing so if I hold off on the pan you'd be saving me some cash. I also need to pull the fender and wheel well to get the squirrel cage blower fan for the heater installed. Also, I'm prettty sure you are looking for something with a cage. Vince seen the car today for the first time today and he told me I should be able to get more than what I want but I'm looking for a quick sale.

This car is pretty darn straight, clean, and about 99% rust free.
