I have been searching for information but haven't found anything.

Thinking of putting a 283 and glide back in my 65 Malibu. OK, OK, don't freak out..

The plan is to have aftermarket aluminum heads and a twin T3/4 turbo setup. Built glide with somewhere around a 2800 converter and 3.42 rear gears.

Does this sound like a logical idea? I am wanting to build something diferent, but still seem to have all the original qualities, besides the whole drum brake thing..lol.

Give me your thoughts on this idea. Seems to be the opposite of pro-tour. But it would be completely streetable and make good power.. I know most here will say Big Block and 6 speed...lol

Sounds like an awesome idea, would love to see the pic's of the build as you do it.......twin's shouldn't be that hard at all.

Great idea, Now did you mean 383? Either way sound great I would find a 4 speed auto to put behind it. It'll make things on the street a little easier plus you'll have more gears.

I second the updated auto...you will thank us later for talking you out of the glide

A glide is great for drag racing but is not so hot on the street. Why use 2 gears when you can have 4 ? It will keep the car out of the single use category.

The glide would be SWEET! I think your going to need more stall than 2800, and definitely BIGGER turbos...

well, the car came originally with the 283 and glide, that is why I was thinking of that combo. I guess if I were going with something that wasn't original I would just do a aluminum headed 406 small block with the twins and back it with the six speed... Believe me, I am all for a manual transmission. I also own a 96 Cobra and I wouldn't have it any other way..

My end goal is to take this car on the Hot Rod Power Tour, or create my own cross country adventure.. I love to just get on the road and drive!

I have found a built 700R4 that I can pick up for 800 bucks and it has 0 miles on it. There is a T350 in the car now and that just isn't cuttin' it with the 4.10 12 bolt rear. I also found a 454 that I can pick up for 300 bucks, but it needs rebuilding.

I think the Glide is a neg. idea. I have a friend who has a glide in a street car. Doesnt like it so much. I would go with a 3-speed or an OD Tranny. Now, the turbo 283 is a cool idea. I dont know if you can de-stroke it but the easier it is to spin the better for a turbo IMO. Unless you run 2 different size Turbos  . I have seen that done and work pretty well. If you are going for something different, make it cool. Small smallblocks dont push a ton of air, so a BIG turbo might not be your friend, Unless you like lag.

The 283 spins real easy anyways, so that is not a problem. Like I said, this is just an idea that ran through my pea-sized brain... I am sure you will be seeing more future posts like this with me thinking out loud.

Thanks for the responses.

the only REAL problem would be attaining a good forged crank/ rod/ piston set up. its a pretty un-commen set up. otherwise, its just a matter of getting the turbo's right, the right A/R ect.
