View Full Version : East Bay Muscle Cars new shop toy
Its been a long time coming, but we finally picked up a 6.0 cert roller locally and plan on running A/Gas in the NHRA heritage series. It was a small block car and were in the process of transplanting a Donovon/Big Chief 632.(1250 hp) Building headers, setting up the drysump and changing driver position. The color scheme will change once we get the it dialed in and the bugs worked out, well probably go with a dark vinyl wrap, black chassis and Black chrome the wheels.

We have a busy 2012 car show schedule planned with a couple of cars were debuting. So well see what extra weekends we can squeeze in to maybe do a WCHRA or PSCA as well as the Heritage Series.

Looks like a lot of fun. I grew up in the Bay Area, where is the closest strip to you? Doesn Fremont still exist or is it Sonoma?
Fremont has been closed since 89. I still have the "last drag race" Tshirt! Sonoma and Sacramento are the closest tracks to us.

Sears point is one of the best drag tracks in the nation, you have to take a beast like that out and run it at least a few times a year!

Weve been swamped with customer cars but managed to get some headers whipped up, 2 3/8 to 2 1/2 stepped to a 4 1/2 Dynatech merge collector (not pictured) and egt sensors installed for Racepak computer. They're out getting ceramic coated this week.....

killer fab work on those headers!
That Nova is going to be a tough cookie on the track with 632 cubes.
After getting relicensed last year, we're ready to attend some events this year. First one up is The March Meet in Bakersfield and hopefully a few more as time and money permits. We installed a set of beadlocks and new 33x17 Hoosiers, had some tire shake issues as seen in the video...
Kclnq7RqEI4
We have some changes to make to get the shake sorted out and will be testing further next month. we ran a string of 7.70's rattling the tires every run, but should fit right in A/gas index (7.60) as soon as we have that handled.

Love it!
Love it!
Thanks Greg. My new years resolution was to get out of the shop a little and have more fun this year with friends and family! So far, so good, a trip to Disneyland with the family and the dragstrip with friends!

Great stuff! I'm a drag racer more than anything. That Nova is killer. I have a few good friends that run PSCA stuff. I used to help them when they ran NHRA Comp Elminator or the Goodguys stuff in A/Gas. Unfortunately my buddy who also had a killer Nova waded it up down in Bakersfield. Overall the same style car you have but it had an older 500" Pro Stock motor that made about the same power as yours. Best hit was 7.46. Good thing with your combo is you do it with less effort! Good luck and nice to take time away for yourself!
no go nova

I used to work about 100yds from where the sand trap was at Fremont. Used to race there in HS. What a shame it's gone. The land is still not being used.

Thanks, that car looks familiar I may have seen it in its glory days.

We probably raced each other at Fremont! I spent every Weds night there and raced in "The last drag race" in 89. Lots of great memories there. In fact I bought a new truck at Fremont GMC last Monday and test drove it right to the end of the street where the strip used to be, hadn't been down that way in a looooong time!

Had a blast at the March Meet in Bakersfield this last weekend! We qualified with a 7.69 in A/gas (7.60 index) and although we got the holeshot in the second round, it wasn't quite enough to beat our competitor who ran a perfect 7.60 to our 7.64. Oh well, all in all a great first outing!

put together a great little video from this last weekend at the Governors Cup in Sacramento.

Although I cut a .010 light in the 2nd round, our opponents 7.66 beat our 7.72. We were about a tenth off due to the 100+ degree temps. Oh well, all in all a great time with great friends!

Steve -- first off - great car - and a very kool video! Your Nova is just bad ass!
The .04 and on the trailer is what finally turned me off to drag racing... all the hurry up and wait - and then so close... but done. I used to run a '55 handyman wagon - nose up - straight axle... D/gasser. That was a few decades ago...
It's why I love the road race track days -- way more driving time than I can even handle - with a nice rest in-between.... and a couple days of that and it's all a guy needs or wants until we do it all again.

Thanks Greg, I've been a drag racer all my life and watched my pro stock icons in the 80s run in the 7's in a doorslammer and that has been on my bucket list ever since. I used to run motorcycles at T-hill and buttonwillow and I try to auto cross whenever I can wrestle the keys away from a customer as well. If its got power and wheels, I'm in. A couple years back this oppurtunity to partner up with a very good friend, mentor and second Dad to me came up. he's getting up there in years and has some serious health issues he's battling lately so its been a great way to get him out of the house to see his racing buddies and be around the sport he loves so much. Not to mention Im also obviously having a blast!
I guarantee I'll be out in a "road race/trackday car with you guys in the future, but right now this is what im focusing on. Most important its the "bonding" with friends old and new in the pits no matter what kind of racing it is.

Racing is racing and it's ALL GOOD!!The Gov cup was one race i regret not racing at.

Really nice car Steve! Much like yourself been an avid Drag Race fan for years. Have quite a few friends that run at the same level as you. My pocket book can't support it but it's fun helping them out (and help spend their money!! ) Ran B/A in Comp Eliminator as well as A Gas at the Goodguy events. It's always a great time and eveybody for the most part is like one big family. Congrats again!

Totally! And I still love drag racing... wasn't putting it down at all... I was just saying that I like the longer seat times of road racing now that I've had a taste of it.

Just saw that about a week ago, how about that!
Just got back from the March Meet last night. Qualified good with a 7.62 but lost in the second round. After a huge holeshot, thought I had it in the bag and lifted to soon, arghhhh...I'll be beating myself up on that one for awhile! It was a long ride home.
