Hey guys,

I have a quick question that I hope you can help me with. I'll appreciate any responses.

I just finished building my car (69 Camaro) and love everything about the car except a winding noise in the rear end.

It's loud when you're on the throttle starting at about 50mph+ but when you let off the throttle, it goes away. When I call the company about the problem, they say gear companies don't guarantee winding noise.

It's a brand new 9 inch 370 gear and it was noisy from the beginning. Now I have about 6000 miles.

Does anybody have the same problem or know a good company that makes a quiet gear?

thanks in advance

Sounds like the gears aren't set up properly. My guess is pinion depth. I'd put it up on a lift or jackstands and run it up to speed to isolate the noise.(Be careful) The beauty of a 9" is the ease of pulling the gear set and setting it up on the bench. Once you isolate the noise to the pumpkin, I'd take it to a reputable gear shop and have them check it. You should be able to see the wear pattern clearly with 6k.

Hey Tony, I agree with Todd. We have a local guy not too far from you who is the only guy I would trust with the rear end stuff. It probably needs to be shimmed. The 9 inch rear-ends are good to work with. If weather holds out might see you at the HDR on Thursday. (not in the bimmer this time :)
