Hi Everyone
I have been a lurker on this forum for quite sometime and am very impressed with all of this forum! I hope I can build as nice a vehicle as most on here have because there are soooo many amazing builds on here and the tech info is just great!
I have a '91 GMC Syclone with a 4.3 turbo v6 and awd. I have owned it for close to 10 yrs and put about 5k on it total, most of that in the first 4 months of owning it
I was young and decided I wanted to "toy" with it and basically I have never finished it to this day. I got close to being able to drive it a couple yrs ago but just couldn't get it running right and winter came so I had to pack it up.
Well now that the wedding is over (got married 3 weeks ago ) I should have some time/money to start working on this thing and maybe finally put some miles on it!
So I have been thinking after seeing so many cool vehicles on this site, Pro touring forum and in the mags today I want to make something awesome. I am ten years older and a lot wiser thanks to my former boss so I can do a lot better work than I used to!
So the problem I have is 2 fold
I need a name for this project as everyone's doing it now
I want a rendering showing how I want it to look when done, I am hoping this will add a lot of motivation by looking at it all the time
I know I had a car mag not to long ago that listed a bunch of artists but of course I think it got tossed.
Could I get some recommendations? I am also curious as to how much something like this is going to cost me, I would love to have Chip Foose make me a drawing but I think that would probably cost as much as I have into the truck. I just want to know of some people that do a good job and for a reasonable average working guy price. I will want an engine view, interior view and maybe a couple exterior views.
Please reply here or email me with any suggestions (email works best ) and Thank You very much in advance!
Welcome!
Ben Hermance did mine and I highly suggest him.
Carter Hickman also does beautifull work.
Jason Rushforth is also one of the top designers around.
There are several more, all very talented. I have dealt with all three listed above and can say that all are very professional, very talented and can do anything you want. I mention these three because they all have different styles too. So maybe one of them will have just what you are looking for.
I don't mean to leave any of the other designers out, but I am drawing a blank on names at the moment. I had the same issue with the list but I can not find it either.
Good luck, and be sure to post up some pics and the finished rendering.

I had this same issue several months ago when I started planning the build of my '05 GMC Canyon (which I later plan to document here once things are a bit mroe complete)
I worked with Robbie Bryant of KEG Media (www.keg-media.com) for about 2 weeks on everything and it came out awesome. He's done several renderings for myself and friends and I love his work.

Sounds like a great project. Good luck! As far as renderings my personal favorites are Kris Horton, Carter Hickman ad Murray Pfaff in no particular order of course, they are all awesome at what they do!

Better add John McBride to that list. Those are the guys I would recommend.

I have pics of the truck on webshots, link in my sig, excuse the mess I hate seeing pics of the underhood as it just makes me disgusted. Some day it will be much nicer looking :) just not yet!
Thanks all for the replies I appreciate it!

You are right Curtis. I had brain lock trying to recall any more names earlier.
Like I said, I didn't mean to leave anyone out.

Ok guys, now you got me itchin for a rendering too!!! :unibrow:
But I haven't heard from anyone what kind of cost is involved. Just some rough ballpark numbers would help knowing if I should indulge myself or not.
Thanks in advance.

You should contact each designer that you are interested in and tell them what you want. I believe the costs vary depending on what kind of details you want.
Just a single view of the exterior? Several views, front, rear, quarter, side, both sides, different wheels, paint schemes, with or without trim.....
Then there is the interior. Stock, custom, different seat or console designs....
As you can see there are many options. And each designer may have different prices for each one of those.
I can tell you that it is worth it to see your ideas on paper and in the long run will help keep your project on track. It's not just a "drawing". It is a blueprint for you to follow so you get the car finished the way you want it.
If you are doing custom paint and or interior, you will be able to SHOW your painter or interior guy EXACTLY what you want. No room for errors.
Take a look at some of the websites to see what I mean. Ben Hermance for example has a great selection of samples. Hermancedesign.com if I remember correctly.
You will be glad you did.
Just be sure to post the design up here so we can see it too!

64skylarkls1 Defiantly get in touch with one of the many artists and they can give you a good quote once they know what your looking for :)
I am going to hold off for now as its more than I want to spend right now but what I figured I would have to pay for these services!
Thank you everyone for your input it was greatly appreciated and I think I found the guy I will be going with once I recover from all the $$$ that was spent on wedding/honeymoon!

Congrats on the wedding!!! Mine was 24 years ago yet I'm still on the honeymoon!!
As far as the rendering goes, I'm in the same boat in that I can't spend the money either. This is no poor mans hobby but then again is there such a thing? Maybe one day when the kids leave home.....:unibrow:
