This is kind of in defense of the Audi R10 diesel with the supposed short rpm power range. Rumors are that it is lapping Sebring at 1 second intervals lower than the all world conquering Audi R8.

My Z-28 had a power band of 2000 - 4500, at 16 - 20 psi boost....mostly dependant on what was left in the 55 gallon drum of racing fuel my cousin shared that weekend at his SCCA racing events.

Within reason, high boost, low rpm motors have tremendous crank acceleration due to the fact that you are avoiding the frictional losses (that are exponential) associatated with higher RPM operation. Simply put, elapsed time power wise is much quicker even if you made the same power. Example....point to point, 2000 - 4500 rpm supercharged vs 2000 - 7500 normally aspirated.

In 1984, I will never forget the look of the black helmeted guy on the Japanese bike as he checked out the car that matched his acceleration rate before we were forced to shut down because of traffic.

Is that a flux capacitor I see neatly tucked away in the corner? :D
