Spending the week in Chicago with my Family. It's supposed to be a balmy 99 degrees today! We were really looking forward to the warm temps after the cool & rainy spring/summer we've had in Oregon this year. Unfortunately, the AC in the hotel we're staying at is on the blink. It's about 80 degrees with 70% humidity in the rooms. Moral of the story: Be careful what you wish for!!

Hop the train and come south 2 1/2 hours - I'll put you guys up in some icy cold a/c and throw some wrenches in your hands so we can get this car finished!

Actually, my wife loves going there. The last time I went was in 2009 - it was the coldest JULY day on record. I walked the bottoms off my shoes.

Watch your credit card. Had mine stolen. By the time we got home Visa was calling about a host of massive purchases that we didn't make.

Oh...if it is really bad - swing on up to Volo museum and check out the collection. That is a great way to spend the afternoon.

Thank you for the invite, it sounds great but my youngest has a breakfast reservation at the American Girl store today that she wouldn't miss for the world. I've been to Volo Auto museum, and I agree it's a great way to spend a day.

I would be switching hotels and asking for a refund. Same weather predicted here in Milwaukee today.

Jeff,

we tried---last minute, there's nothing available. The wife is PISSED (kinda scary cause she's usually the level headed one reeling me in!). But we're on vacation, and my kids are 2 young 2 notice. Just enjoying my time with the family.

Welcome to the Midwest :)

Heck I grew up in ST. Louis. I remember summers when it would be 99F for a high and 90F for a low for weeks. Ahhh, the good old days......

Magnificent Mile (downtown) Chicago. Closest available rooms are at O'Hare Airport---it can take 40 minutes to 1 1/2 hours to get downtown from O'Hare depending on traffic. Most everything we have planned is in Downtown!

What the heck is going on this weekend that theres not a single room in Chicago off the Mile. Did you check the Hyatt other side of the river?
Screw Ohare go north a little to Lincolnwood. Closer and way better viewing on your way back to view the sites.

WE reached 103 degrees here today

I want to give you a little advice when walking downtowwn on Michigan ave. if you have an Ipod or Iphone don't hold them in the open while texting or surfing the net and be aware of your surroundings, by that I mean large groups of black teens walking together, if you see them avoid them. We have had a problem with flash mobs stealing ipods and such, however I think they really have put a lot more Police out there so I think that problem was rectified. If this is your first time here and you need some advice on restaurants and stuff to do pm me. Have fun.

Thanks for the offer. It's funny you mentioned the Police. We were walking down Michigan Ave. 2 nights ago and we were surprised at the number of policeman we saw--a group of 4 or 5 on just about every corner.

we live 9 miles west of the Volo Auto Museum. Cool place to visit. Just DON'T buy any 'fully restored' cars from them. I have some stories...:willy: :wow:

Enjoy your visit. -Joe

Finally made it back home (2 AM) in spite of our plane out of Midway having a mechanical failure! It's been a quirky vacation, I'm just glad we're back home. My only regret--we didn't get to hit a couple more restaurants downtown (including Bandera)--maybe next time.
