The 250K is what DSE might charge to reproduce a copy.If You are handly w/tool's you could try to build your own Devil clone.I belive the Thompson Super charged engine is close to 35K on it's own.GoodLuck:rolleyes:

Exactly. The Red Devil makes many $100k+ Pro Touring cars look like a POS. Seriously.

so does that mean Bad Penny isnt comparable with RED Devil? just wondering,Penny has to be over $100k if someone was to reproduce/clone it?
also havent heard much about Penny in awhile? anybody know if Rupp is still thrashing her around at any autocrosses?

When I saw the Red Devil at SEMA and had the opportunity to talk with Mark for a few minutes, it became apparent just how well thought out and carefully engineered the car is, and I'm not just talking about the ABS, it is the whole package that Red Devil brings. It just looks functional, comfortable, shiny, and fast. It feels so OEM compared to most of our cars. Dave is right, when you start factoring in all of the attention to detail, that car can make any number of 100k cars look, well... insignificant. That is not to say you can't compare it to Bad Penny. Several of us San Diego guys went up to Barrett Jackson OC, with Steve and got to play the part of Bad Penny's groupies. Penny was easily one of the 10 nicest cars at the event with regard to paint, engineering, etc. Unlike the Red Devil, Penny has a decidedly more obvious race car inspiration. In the end, I think comparisons between two are inevitable. They are perhaps the two most iconic cars in our community right now. Both are ridiculously fast, and have been painstakingly dialed in to perform on the track. Both can cruise down the highway comfortably, and pick up an award at a local show for "best paint."

Lastly, 250K might sound insane, but if you paid a shop to build you a car just like Red Devil, and had to pay for everything ranging from the big ticket items like the LS7/9 to the small things like the fluid coolers, and then paid for the time involved in dialing in the shocks, springs, tires, etc. then 250k isn't a stretch. Besides there are a lot of pro builds that cost more than we can believe. the Devil is in the details, so to speak.

The biggest variable for me is, how many shops could really produce this car? Very very few. The shops that are capable are going to be top shelf in cost. A car like this isn't your average pro touring car. You can't just throw something like this together with any stretch of the imagination. It's way harder than it looks.

Likely double that figure. That is another well oiled and constantly tuned machine.

Best statement so far. Perfect example, look at the issue with Weld's '32
supposedly from a top shelf shop.

See if Phil will 'estimate' what that Nova they are building would cost. Wasn't the rumor that Johnson;s 'Cuda was north of $1m?

The point is, I am repeating what Todd says

It takes a engineer with a lot of experience and enough sense to delegate things , ie paint from Joe to make a car like this happen. Remember he has built a bunch of these cars and you learn something from each one. I'm sure it takes quite a few to figure a lot of things out, plus new technology keeps coming. Great car.

My Dad built us several houses growing up, each one turned out a little better than the one before. In the end, all the details and nuances worked themselves out. (storage, flow, livability etc.) The house my Mom and Dad currently live in is culmination of his experience in building these houses. (He did not do it for a living, he just loved doing it) The same can be said for Mark's cars and his knowledge. Perfect!
