I have a line on a very clean 1991 Benz wagon. Is there any company that offers conversion parts to install a Chevy motor? Or has anyone got some experience in this? TIA.

I've seen folks drop in Mercedes V8s in Crossfires--not sure if anyone's done a Chevy V8 though. The below threads may be somewhat helpful.

Thanks Lee
The 91 Benz it almost free and the body is terrific. I'd love to put a chevy v8 in it :)

There is a guy around here somewhere who dropped a bbc into an 80s era SL convertible around here. I think he fabricated everything. He replaced the entire drivetrain. Don't know if I can find him or not.

Thanks. I've been looking around and it seems like there's nothing equivalent to the JTR kits for Datsuns, Jags, etc.

Cool. I may pass on the Benz and look for a Volvo!

Pretty common to put chevy V8s in volvos in scandinavia. You get conversion kits.

I know! The volvos get the love. I have a 92 240 wagon but the body's a bit banged up and used ones are not cheap enough for me! This benz was priced right but alot of fabbing is beyond my skill set. But my wife says - it would be a project!
A couple motor mounts, tranny crossmember, fuel lines (going with a carb I assume?)
Those are all things that any decent fab shop could do for you and then you can bolt it all up. Maybe convert one of the Jag kits? (I am not sure how close the mounts are to Benz)
Just some ideas.....good luck with it.

Hadn't considered that. I can do any brake/fuel, etc work.
Thanks Eric!

No problem. I'm sure I over simplified the whole thing, but with a few key parts made up the swap SHOULD be fairly straight forward right?
Afterall, look at what goes on with some of the projects around here. These guys make it all LOOK easy anyway.
You mention brake and fuel, I wonder how easy a hydraboost system could go in? And EFI with any of the decent "bolt on" TB style systems. (EZEFI?)
The exhaust is one area I would want to look into. What fits? Maybe if space is tight some block hugger headers or the old Rams horn manifolds? They made them in a few styles, center or rear dump depending on needs.
Just thinking out loud again.....
Just be sure and post up pictures of the whole deal.

First off, If your wife is on board, you're 90% there already. I'm doubting there is any kit that would come close, but agree you wouldnt even need one. Go over to LS1TECH.com and look in their conversion forum. There is a ton of info about different engine mounts, oil pans, exhaust, ECUs, all the stuff you're gonna need to know.
Until you stab that LS in there, its gonna be tough to know exactly what has to be done, and once you're that far, your commited...

If I ever meet a benz engineer/designer I will promply kick him in the nuts .
I assembled a 320 and a 500ml yesterday . The ability to turn a simple part into a complicated ,over engineered piece of dog crap just blows my mind .
Rant over ...carry on

Sandbagger,
are you a mercedes tech or were these your own projects? I have a Crossfire and have thought about supercharging/turbocharging or possibly dropping in a V8 Merc engine, but it seems like it's a huge pain in the balls!
