Hello guy and gals, thought I would take a minute and actually introduce myself. I've been hanging around here for a couple years and have never said HELLO.

Anyways my name is Matt and I'm slowly building my 73 camaro.

Here are the thoughts I've come up with so far

I've built a 370 (I know I should have stroked it) starting with a 6.0 iron block, mahle pistons, scat rods, lunati cam & lifters and some other goodies.

I'm planning on running t56 magnum and a 10 bolt I have that's been narrowed (it should last for a lil while).

I'm gonna run stock sub with speedtech arms & coilovers in front with DSE 2in drop mini tub kit in rear with mini tubs.

Already have the tubs installed along with the DSE sub frame connectors.

Basically just getting going on this again after lil break (kid #4) progress will be slow and updates will be slower, but I'm getting there.

Here's the car when I got it.

Here's the way she sits now.http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m535/ma73z/P2230077.jpg

Didn't get a lot done this weekend, I had my lil helper with me. :) I managed to get the drivers side mostly cut off and was actually able to fit all the new pieces on which made my day, it looked like a whole new car. I also took a few pics of some parts I had laying around.

Are those DSE mini tubs installed? Did you install the kit that relocates the leafs and requires a narrow gas tank? If not, how much wider a tire can you fit with just the tubs installed?

ma73z
01-15-2012, 02:11 PM
Hell yeah, you don't do that ? That is some bomb can primer from work I had them coated with, then I was shooting an engine later that day and had some leftover gray so they got shot with that.

Hey guys, haven't gotten squat done lately but have been stocking up on some parts. I ordered upper/lower Speedtech arms and Ridetech single adjustable shocks from Mike at muscle rodz. Also got my Magnum from American powertrain. I hope to get the back end primed this week and get started welding.

Well not much progress lately but I'm finally getting back on my project. I have a question for you body guys out there. I'm fitting new quarters and I can't seem to get any door gap, every thing else seems to fit pretty well. The gap around the doors are pretty even just not wide enough. So my question for you is, do I grind the door edge and re-weld or something else.

Here you can see my passenger door which actually kinda overlaps.
http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m535/ma73z/P6230060.jpg

And here is the drivers door which has a gap but not much.

The aftermarket 1/4s seem to have a problems with the door gaps. I hang my doors to the old panles before I cut them off so I know I have door gaps. Can you slide the door forward to get some gap? But you will have to grind and weld the gap to make a nice gap. Take your time its worth the time spent. I have a complete build of my camaro over on nasty z28 under the name project Siknss in project section. Your doing a great job nice work.

I had all gaps set pretty well before cutting anything off, they weren't perfect but close. I have doors, fenders, etc. still in place, I just can't seem to get the quarter to door gap back like it was before. They line up great around the back glass and trunk area. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to grind the doors to make them fit just wanted to check with the pros around here first.

I appreciate your response, I'll head over to nasty to check out your build right now.

Can you not slide everything forward? My understanding is these cars have the doors aligned to the quarters and then the fenders to the doors. So would sliding the doors and front clip forward help?

A little at best

Don't forget the glass has to fit in the opening

Ya thats what I would do (grinding) had to do same with my camaro. Had great lines on 1/4s with the gm panles but the aftermarket panles need work to make great lines.

Damn, Hedman and I have a very violent past. It's a shame.

What size rear tire are you running? I have a suggestion for better fitment if you still have the quarters off. It involves cutting and sectioning the outer wheel house.

So I narrowed a 12-bolt using Millerbuilts housing ends.

So I get an email today about my project on lat G! WHAT?!? I Figured they kicked me into the archives or something since it's been a year since I've posted on here and no the car still isn't done yet 😬.

Anyways, the car is finally progressing. I've got a few more things to mock up, exhaust, radiator hoses, fine tune gaps after ring bros. hinges get here 🤔 Do the body work and it'll be close.

The accessory drive if Holley stuff, fits well and after a little cleaning up casting marks looks real good.

I'll see if I can find some good pics to post up.

Car Looks great!!..... The struggle is real (finding time to work on your ride). What solution did you come up with on the quarters? I have full AMDs that I will be installing....keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to fight them too much!
