I am posting this to gauge the level of interest there is in composite doors and fenders for a 68-74 nova.

The parts I build are STRONG and LIGHT. I will make the skins carbon/rohacell/carbon or glass/balsa/glass. The parts will all bolt on to the original mounting points.

There are companies who make parts already, however they are built using boat making techniques, not aerospace techniques. (not that I have aerospace skill ;) Most of the parts I have seen are solid layer carbon or fiberglass. That makes for a heavy and flexy part and hose techniques result in parts that are unnecessarily heavy due to excess resin and other reasons that are too many to list.

1. Doors-
The doors will bolt on with factory hinges handles and latches. they will use factory windows and regulator. Calculated weight for doors is 21.2LBS. That is fully reinforced and meant for street use. I may reduce the weight considerably after I see my first part come out of the mold.

2. Fenders -
The fenders bolt on just like OEM parts and use OEM inner fenders or can be trimmed for other uses. Calculated weight for each fender in 11.6LBS That is overbuilt and meant for street use. Conservative lay up can get down to 6.4 LBS.

3. Hood-
I have not calculated weights and layup schedules for the hoods yet because there is one company who makes a similar hood to what I am making so I may just buy one of theirs instead of fabricating molds for it. (good molds are extremely expensive to fabricate. I may consider making my own mold set for hoods. I am going to decide after I take a your of their shop and see their finished part quality.)

So, To my question.
Is there anyone who may be interested in fenders or doors for their nova project? It will be a good way to shave 150 LBS...

The prices I am about to quote may seem high, but let me assure you, I am not going to be profiting from the sale of 2 or three sets... after about 15 sets I would break even. I am just trying to offset my costs of fabrication.

Doors- 2800.00
Fenders 1850.00
Hood- (if I make one) 1400.00

Send me a PM if you are interested and would like more details.

I wish you well in your venture, however you might want to research your facts a little better about others sharing the market place before making bold statements that are not necessarily true....

One of the brain trust in my corp is in fact from an aerospace background, has lectured internationally on infused composites and is acknowledged as a "composites expert" from within the aerospace industry itself...

While I'm sure you build one heck of a product,,,, your marketing skills leave a little to be desired as putting others skill sets/approach won't likely win you favor in the community in the long run......

in reply to the post above:

i am suprised to see your respone. I mean no disrespect to anyone who manufactures composite car parts. My post is regarding ONLY parts for a 1969 nova. not by any means composite parts or composite part manufactuers in general.

I have been searching for about a year and i have not found any companies who offer OEM style bolt on fenders or doors for a nova that are made using carbon fiber sandwhich core construction. AM I WRONG??? If i am send me a link because you will save me a TON of money. I would gladly pay much more than I am asking for these parts.

You completly took my intentions of posting this in the wrong way. I am trying to offset costs, not make a profit. we are talking about 400+ (four hundred) hours of labor to make these parts

You're absolutely correct and I did take your post out of context,,,, My apologies extended as well....

I wish you the best as stated in the earlier post,,, and fully appreciate your comment on the hours it takes to facilitate making molds.....
