Theres a 69 road runner that suppose to be the "Baddest in the Universe". One piece billet grill, billet firewall, IRS, etc etc.... I imagine there's seven figures on the build!

I would imagine the Novas from the Roadster Shop and from RPM would have to be contenders.

Spoke with the builder, I invited him to become a member of Lateral-g. He extremely busy trying to make the deadline.
He is going to try next week to get some pictures up. Hopefully he does. He has 3,800 pictures of the project.

I agree. That '56 is better suited for "Custom Rod of the Year" and that is usually chosen in Des Moines

I started going to all the major Goodguys events in the '90's and generally the Street Rods were up to '49 or in that area yet likely lower, the Custom Rods were late '40's and '50's and Street Machine would be the Musclecar types.
The '56 Ford is perfectly suited for Des Moines and the "Custom Rod of the Year" competition.

The Street Rods go through 1948. Street Machines are 1949 and up although I cannot remember many in the SMOY contention older than the mid1950s. I know Denny Terzich's 56 Chevy won years ago and there were a few 55s in there contending as well. Alloway also won with a first gen. T-Bird too. I do not know what the difference in qualifications are between Custom of the Year and Street Machine of the Year. Can a car compete for both?
Are the Ring Bros. going to have a car or two in contention?
Is Troy bringing anything this year? Maybe The Torino?

As far as i know the Torino is not that far along.I could be wrong though. I am sure the Ring bros have something like they normally do.

Their site's project section seems to be down a lot, at least for me anyway. I follow on Facebook. I don't remember seeing any pics of the 54 Buick recently, but it was painted in the last pics and going together. FWIW, I like the 56 Buick, with the nailhead, more.
The Torino is just freaking awesome! If the FB pics of its progress are close to being up-to-date the Torino is still in bare metal, and a lot of sheet metal work going on. They posted 12 pics yesterday of taillight lenses being (CNC) machined and some sheet metal work (pedal box and interior).
These cars (built by the top builders) are really the "Kustoms" of the 21st century. They resemble the original cars, but have been reshaped in nearly every way possible. Absolutely awesome! :hail:

When that happens, just click on another tab such as "Schedule Events" and than click back onto the "Project" tab and it will work.

The "Custom Rod of the Year" was selected at Des Moines years ago but is now selected as a finalist at this event and the overall winner is selected from various other events including Des Moines presently.

There's a KILLER rendering along with a progress picture of a 69 Camaro being built by Greening Automotive in the latest issue of Camaro Performer.
Did any body see it?
If I read it right, they are shooting to debut it at Columbus. Maybe Steve can shim in and give us the scope.
Another on of Erci Brockmeyer's design. That guy does killer work.

I think Pinkees Rod Shop was planning on taking the mustang and camaro they had taken to the GNRS! Both subtle cars with over the top details! I've always loved Pinkees style and quality of their builds.

I typically spend the whole weekend bouncing between vendors, awards, and swap meet, but will take and post as many as I can. Count on seeing lots of big buck stuff from me, I'm drawn to it like a steel nut to a magnet, and never seem to be able to peel myself away to see the other five thousand cars. I know what it's like to sit at home impatiently waiting for pics. It helps if you yell at the screen - "Ah, come on! Somebody somewhere had to have taken some pics! Post them already!"

Typical Goodguys-Columbus weather - one rainy day. It's wet and gloomy outside so I checked the weather. There's a big slow moving wet rag overhead. Just drizzle where I am, but enough to keep everything wet. If it was moving faster it would probably clear out by noon, and leave the entire afternoon nice and dry. The weather here often changes fast and frequently. As a Columbus native put it, "If you don't like the weather here, wait five minutes."
It's still early, so we'll see. This is how it was last year - rained Friday, beautiful Sat and Sun. It rained one of the three days the year before, but started after the place was packed. It was amazing to see the Deucenburg sitting in the rain, with a simple car cover on it. I think it rained Saturday that year, because I remember watching the Autocross on Friday. Last year it rained-out the autocross event - hopefully that won't happen today.
If it doesn't clear up soon pics, at least from me, may be delayed until tomorrow. Sorry. :(

This is the number one reason I've never attended this show... every magazine is always full of pictures with RAIN and or WET... and or high temps and high humidity... in other words GROSS. But I'm going next year regardless. It's just one of those shows that's on the bucket list. Living in the Pacific NorthWET - we normally choose NOT to go to other areas of the country that have weather similar to our own...

Having lived in Ohio my entire life (not always by choice) the heat and humidity is just a fact of life for me. I love hot weather and humidity has never bothered me - I guess because I've been swimming in it so long.
All that being said, Columbus is interesting (even for Ohio) because the weather varies from hour to hour. The two days that it doesn't rain are so awesome it makes it worth dealing with the one that it does - two outta three ain't bad kind of thing. The only problem today is it's moving too slow - which isn't common here. Normally these type of storms do a quick drive-by, and everything is dry (albeit hot and sticky) an hour or so later. This little gang of clouds isn't supposed to clear out until later this afternoon. Tomorrow and Sunday are supposed to be perfect (albeit hot and sticky).
I still haven't ruled out going today. I have one eye on the computer screen, one out the window, and one on the TV (news), trying to make a decision. Wait that's too many eyes! That's why people think I look funny!
Definitely bring that 32 here next year Greg! You'll have a blast (cringes and looks at the clouds)! If you look at the average size of the waistlines here, you'll realize that there must also be a lot of awesome restaurants - Central Ohio people love to eat! I can't figure out why the crew here comes all the way to Columbus to go to Texas Roadhouse though. Nothing wrong with TR, but there are more interesting spots...
