http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/techinfo/350%20chevy%20engine.html

I am building a long rod 350 like the one in the link. 400 block, 327 crank, comp hyd roller 215/215 @ .050 and 500/500 lift. 10.5/11.0:1 comp. maybe a bigger cam but I dont want to kill low end power. I am looking for 400/400 hp/tq with a power band from around 2000-6000rpm's.

I have been looking at cyl heads and have my choices narrowed down and I am looking for suggestions/recommendations.

1. afr 195 with 2.05/160 valves
2. brodix race rite 180cc or 200cc with 2.02/160 valves
3. dart pro 1 180cc or 200 cc with 2.02/1.60 valves

the dart/brodix 200's are closer to the flow#'s of the afrs according to each mfgr's websites.

I will be coating the pistons and combustion chambers/valves/exhaust ports.

I will also be using a weiand stealth intake because I have one laying around.

It makes a 348 well 350 the bore on the 327 is the same as a 350 but the stroke on a 327 is 3.250 and stroke on the 350 is 3.48. I have a question though what is the point of this build? If you want bottom end power why don't you just stick with a 400 block and stroke. Just curious.

link doesnt work for me.

im curious about the 327 crank in a 400 block, if you are gonna use "production" block and crank? the only way that comes to mind is to use a medium journal 327 crank(350 mains) and bearing spacers in the 400 block.

this sounds like an rpm style combo, similar to nascar's 358" set-up, but only wanting to turn it 6k-7k, seems kinda pointless.

i say run a 3.75 stroke(400) in the 400 block, with the afr 195's, and your target should be pretty easy to reach. as the saying goes, there is no replacement for displacement.

Is this the '350 that Chevy should have built' version? Forget where the article was - maybe AFR's site?

well this engine is going into my dads 66 chevy pickup wich will be a daily driver/cruiser and might tow a lawn mower once in a while.

My dad has always wanted to build this combo ever since he read the ariticle in hot rod years ago where they built this combo and pulled 400/400 hp/tq with over 400ft/lbs from 2000-6000 rpm's and that is the biggest reason for not staying with the stock 400 stroke. I know it would be easier to make our goal with more cubes,

I am looking for suggestions on heads due to hot rod using such small valves on those heads when there is room for bigger valves and I have read posts where people have steered other people away from afr toward dart pro 1's.

plus we are building the bottom end with high quality comonents so if my dad doesnt like this combo it will end up in our imca modified.

or clevite makes a "thick bearing" that doesnt require the spacer and aids in the heat transfer to the block.

OK so what heads are good. I am curious myself. Me personaly if I had the money I would go for the AFR's.

I really like the Pro1s they are cost friendly and post good numbers, but what do I know.

well in jegs the afr's are only about $100 more. I am just looking for opinions/suggestions from some of the more experienced guys as to wether or not the afr's are better/same/worse than the darts or brodix or pro's/cons of either.

Another option is the new Partriot Performance heads: http://sites.reachtheworld.tv/waterNew/default.asp?T=506263&DID=1225
They just made some good numbers in this thread w/ info about them: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=438350
