Guys, what the deal with ISIS wiring? What exactly is it and what the benefits of running it? Opposed to American Autowire, what all does it do? Is it just another wiring harness?

I'm only going to comment on this post because I interested in seeing the responses.

I just had a discussion with someone else on this subject. My "take" on it is -- if you want to have dimming exit lighting... and some other "modern car" touches the ISIS is an easy way to get this kind of stuff.... but it doesn't appear to me to save any work... it appears to me to be "complicated" should you have a problem down the road... and you have to "hide" the modules somewhere. But I really want to learn more about these pluses and minuses so hope people chime in here.

Here's a link from pro-touring.com: http://www.pro-touring.com/showthread.php?49119-ISIS-%E2%80%93-Intelligent-Multiplex-System&highlight=isis It went into quite a bit of detail on the ISIS set up. I was originally planning on using the ISIS set up, but after hearing how long it took some guys to wire their cars, I'm going to run the Highway 22 kit instead.

i know jay is saying that you can cut your wiring time in half, but i dont see how thats possible. maybe if you had already wired 10 this way, but it does seem a little more complicated.

i went with it for a few reasons; it works as a remote entry, has express up and down on the windows (im acutally using one switch for both windows on the same side), i can run daytime running lights, enables the use of push button start and it is fully programmable to do just about anything you can imagine.

once i factored in the cost of a different wiring harness, remote entry and push button start it was about the same cost. plus, the can cable modules are the newest technology. all of our new fire engines come with the same thing and huge bundles of wires have been eliminated.
