View Full Version : Project "Take 2" 1969 Nova

Well, I sold a 1963 Nova I was working on(could'nt turn down the offer). So, I purchased a 1969 SS Nova about three months ago. I've been slowly working on it. I installed DSE Mini Tubs and sub-frame connectors. It will be a street/strip/show car. This build will give a perfect example of how diverse my shop is. I've had everything from Texas Mile, 1/4 mile race cars to Autorama show stoppers come through this piece of real estate. Hope you guys enjoy the build.

A welding god!
When Ironworks does his TIG welding class -- you need to be one of the instructors...
It was a surprise to me that the Nova shares the firewall with the Camaro...

Appreciate the compliment, but I'm no God at welding.
I'd be open to go down to Roger's shop and offer my services. I've always wanted to check out the shop, very talented group of guys.
Thanks Greg

Very nice work. Nice frame rail notch, I had to do the same. Nice floor pan welding, hard to weld to that thin floor pan. Only with a TIG!

It's a 2JZ. I do all my welding free hand, but I do pulse the foot pedal manually. I have yet to use the pulser on my Dynasty.

There is Greg! I'll remove it right away sir.:D
The fuel tank is all hand formed and gas welded. It's something I learned from a good friend Don Baumunk, owner of Fat Katz. Don is a master of sheet metal!
Thanks again Greg.

I took a class from Ron Covel --- he likes to weld aluminum with gas... which in this day and age of A/C TIG I was kinda shocked to learn.... but it's a fantastic skill!! He'll actually weld with a strip of the same sheet he's working with so there's no (or very little) discoloration.

I do use a gas lense on all stainless welding. I backpurge all 18ga stainless header tubes. On butt welds using 16ga material I don't. If I use a formed collector I do backpurge because there is so much heat being generated in that one area. I also use 347 stainless filler on all my stainless and 309l on my mild steel headers. Thanks for the compliment. Oh, heat is the killer, so keep under control.
