I was wondering if anyone has used a Unisteer rack n pinion Kit on a 1969 camaro with the stock subframe and big block chev. I need an oil pan that will clear the rack with this set up. Any help is much appreciated. :)

We have never installed a rack and pinion on a 67-69 Camaro (http://www.unisteer.com/search_by_product/bolt_in_rack_pinions/camaro/1967-1969.html)with a 540 in it. On most other big blocks we use the stock oil pan, but I am assuming that this is what you are having problems with. So, it may be best to have a custom oil pan made.

Hi there
I have install a couple of unisteer racks in a 68 camaro sbc and one in a 69 camaro bbc the oil pan will not be the problem ,the problem that u will have is if ur running super comp or big tube headers the number 1 tube runs right into the universal that comes off the rack , you'll have to cut it and move it closer to the block. The other issue is that the universals on that system r on such a steep angle that you'll feel flat spots when turning the wheel( happen on both cars). other than that the rack is a nice piece.

I ran my 468 with this rack without issues. I used a deep rear sump standard BBC pan from Milodon and standard mounts. I also used the big tube- headers from hooker, but not super comps. Keep in mind that while the steering will be smooth, you will loose 30% of your turning radius.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like the Miloden pan does the trick. Test fit a borrowed one and it fit fine with a BBC. Speed Tech has headers made by Stainless Works that solve the steering shaft issue with only two u-joints. Thanks again for the help. Cheers
