Alabama, and all others ok!

I'm hoping everyone a safe recovery in Alabama and everywhere else. The storms are bad this year. We had a close call today. the kids were taken down stairs in school and the nieghbors all saw the funnel clouds in the area. Thankfully nothing touch down enough to do any major damages. But its a scary feeling when the school calls me at work to let me know the kids are ok.

We get some heavy winds this time of year but never anything to serious. Bad deal for all involved.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers Guy's. I live here in Chelsea, AL, I'm just a few miles Southeast of B'ham. We had one Tornado come over my Town Wed., and a couple more that turned just as they got close,thankfully no damage. Seeing a tornado coming your way is an indescribable feeling, just the shear feeling of helplessness and fear, I don't care who you are, you'll pray like you've never prayed before. Tornado's around here a expected every spring, so this was nothing we weren't prepared for, they were just too numerous and powerful this time, just wave after wave of them, that was unusual.
The pics on TV do not begin to show the scope and shear size of what happened this time, That one Tornado that hit Tuscaloosa, left a path of destruction over 165 miles long!! And before it got here at B'ham it was a 1/2 to 1 mile wide, you can't get away from a monster like that.

Between the weather and all the destruction, it is unbelievable what mother nature has tossed out in the past 6 months. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those that have been deeply affected.

Thanks guys! Like SS454 we made it through fine here. It is amazing how widespread the damage is though. I was up in north Alabama when it hit there and it has made a huge mess. Most there are without power and will be for a while since the TVA transmission lines took a few hits from a very large tornado. Same system leveled a few neighborhoods around where I grew up. Really sad to see things like that. Just heard the death toll has surpassed the previous worst which happened in '32. Can't imagine how bad this would have been without the advances in radar technology and communication.

my city (decatur) was spared. damage beyond belief in athens, moulton, hatton, tuscaloosa, cullman, and arab to name a few. we were fortunate to be out of the path. i can tell you from searching for a couple of my dad's buddies today that it is really bad. f 4/5's on the scale. if you get a chance to help, just do it. just got power to my gal's house, so i can update. damage was too severe for me to take pics today, just couldn't. whole subdivisions and small cities were wiped out.

We fared fine this time. Missed my parents house by about 2 miles this go around and some family members houses by as little as 200 yards. Still many without power and the loss of life is tremendous. I think this storm will redistribute the population of parts of Alabama because there is so much damage to the infrastructure. I lived through an F5 in 1998 and it was hard to go through from the inside. The destruction I have seen with this storm is equal to what I saw then, but the number of towns these storms struck is inconceivable. The people of Alabama and surrounding states appreciate your support and prayers.
