Hey guys-
I am looking to pick up a used 4L80E (Or possibly a 4L60E) locally for my 69 Camaro. Does it matter what it came out of? Are they all pretty much the same? I know so little about these units, I don't want to buy something that won't work with my car.
Thanks.

are you comparing the 60 to the 80. Then no they are not the same. The 80 will be more suited for higher hp, but the 60 will fit in your car better and serve just as good for the daily driver.

you need to research different years too. Computer control requirements are different by year too. Sorry but I don't know any more details about specific years than that.

Not comparing the 2, just considering both although I will probably get the 80. As for the computer, I will go with an aftermarket unit.
I just wanted to know if it mattered what the 60 or 80 came out of when looking at used units. Thanks.

I forget the years but they changed the location of the coolant lines at some point. I heard the older style(<'97 maybe) is easier to fit into the tunnel on some models without "tweaking" of the tunnel.
Jake@Jake's Performance (http://jakesperformance.com) was very helpful when I had a lot of the same questions. There's more info available over on Chevelles.com (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/) forum too since autos are more prevalent there.

ok. they moved the cooler line to the center support 1995?.
the hd (motorhomes and such) units have more clutches in the direct drum. other than that not much changes. the later the unit the better as you will get the updates that gm incoroprated.
